Dumb question (mine), Do you know aproximately where you lost them?, are you sure they are lost?
If you live or lost them near scum, change everithing, or minimun the main ones

Unless OP lives around like 3 houses it's statistically unlikely anyone will try the key on his door.

I've come in possession of a four story building in souther France which is in quite bad shape. I'd like to fix it into something that wont fall down and where you can stay with very simple standard. Functioning shower is no must. I want to spend minimal amount of time and money. Any ideas experience of similar projects welcome.

Greetings, /diy/
I want to make a toilet shit proof. I want to make a toilet so shitproof that I can use pic related without needing to scrub after flushing. How do I do it? I thought about a hydrophobic layer and increasing the speed of the water flow but I would also ask you for other ways to make pic related shit proof. Only condition: the shelf is here to stay and you should be able to examine the poop after shitting since it is also supposed to be used for medical reasons.

>>
have the patients shit in your mouth instead
>>
You could straddle the toilet as if you were going to town on it's dick, that way the shit falls into the hole instead of on the shelf.
You could buy an American toilet that doesn't make you clean up after every shit, like what the fuck?

Spray it with Teflon if you're so insistent on your crappy toilets.
>>
>>1183862
Get a toilet without a shelf, and get a squatting stool just because it makes for better shits.

I want to build something like picture related. Problem is, where I live the soil conditions and bugs will eat up any wood that has dirt contact. Even the treated stuff. I don't want to have to tear everything down in 10 years because the bases have rotted out.

So, if I want to put up an 8 foot post with a cantilevered weight on it (maybe 10 feet off the ground at the tip, 6 feet out from the post), what kind of concrete piers do I need to put in place? How deep should I go so it doesn't fall over the next time a good wind comes up? Frost heave isn't an issue, it doesn't get cold enough here.

>what kind of concrete piers do I need to put in place? How deep should I go so it doesn't fall over the next time a good wind comes up?

Depends on the weight of the roof. I think you'd be better off using steel or using a slab to weigh it down like they do in bus shelters
>>
>>1183659
I plan on putting up a number of these in a row to shade my patio. The patio is made of pavers and is quite nice. Ripping it out to pour a slab would kind of defeat the purpose. Also, this shade a distance about 36 feet long. That much concrete would be a huge expense.

Hi, I've been having troubles dealing with scumbag HOA and plumbers in regards to fixing this valve. The plumbers tell me that the water line to the entire apartment building has to be shut off in order to replace my unit's valve. Is there a way to not have to shut off the water as I'm having troubles getting the HOA to shut off the water since the plumbers don't want to do it because the main water shut off is fucked or something. Pic related is the valve in question.
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Impossible to tell without looking at your pipes.

Likely the branch that valve is on connected to has only one valve, and turning it off means no water for anyone on that branch

or he's lying and putting off the work.. wouldn't surprise me
>>
>>1183562
I just want to know if there is a way to fix this mainline water valve for my specific unit without turning off the water for the entire building. Because this valve in question is the one that specifically turns off and on the water for my unit and the handle snapped off.
>>
If you could get it to shut off with pliers , another valve could be put in after it.

Can't see it very well in pic, but is there a reason you can't just replace the handle?

I was planning on using birchwood casey plumb brown to brown my flintlock barrel and i was using a laser temp gauge to monitor it as it heated. Since the temp required for the chemical to work is 275F i kept heating and checking for a while. The barrel turned a dark purple with the amount of heat and my wooden plug turned to charcoal before the guage even got to half the temp required. i used the chemical and its now a multicolor finish with thick rust scale on it. did this stupid fucking gauge make me ruin my barrel or do you think it would be safe to shoot still?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
i can get rid of all the rust there is no pitting, im just worried about how hot it got.
>>
>>1183554

Card off the scale and repeat the process.
It may take three or four applications.
>>
>>1183554
Purple indicates it was around 500 degrees F. This expanded the steel 5 thou. It also tempered the barrel. Honestly? It could be fucked.it could not be. How much do you trust holding a grenade every time you shoot?

Say I was buying some land which I intend to live offgrid upon permanently. I have most of it worked out, but my main issue left is fuel for my car/a generator for days the other power generation methods aren't pulling in enough. I recall seeing someone post a machine that made gas you could just dump in your car, but I have a weak grasp of this kind of thing. Is such a thing even possible? Would it be easier to just grow a crop that can be turned into fuel and convert my car to run off ethanol/biodiesel?
20 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
I don't know how the fuck you're supposed to make homemade gasoline, so I'd probably go for biodiesel.
>>
If your property has wood, You could make a wood gassifyer system and be self reliant. Minuses are that they're bulky, require a few steps before it runs an engine, inefficient compared to other fuels and dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

I'm thinking of buying a power supply but I live in an old house with no earth ground. Are there any precautions I should take before probing around with my scope?

http://bee.mif.pg.gda.pl/ciasteczkowypotwor/Systron%20Donner/Systron-Donner_TL8-3_Series_Stabilized_Triple_Power_Supply_InstructionManual.pdf

If you look at page 10 there's a transformer in there, so there's no chance accidentally shorting + to the house's ground right?
12 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1183424

noobs on this board seem to have a hang-up about grounds. they are absolutely not necessary in this kind of setup. a power supply without a ground is the same as a battery, no better or worse.

in fact grounds can be a problem in test equipment if you go measuring things inside live equipment.
>>
>>1183424
I live in an ungrounded apartment too. The problem with equipment and many appliances is that the neutral is often connected to ground, so if you're using a grounded PSU and touch the positive lead with the scope the current will travel through your scope, through your ground wire and back to your PSU again.

This is usually not a problem if you're dealing with small currents, but it can be pretty dangerous with mains voltage, since a touching mains and the ground lead can result in a bang and possible damage to yourself or the scope. It's essentially like shorting mains to neutral through your scope.

Solutions:
Isolate the ground of your scope.
Install an isolation transformer and use your scope with it.
Disconnect the ground from your PSU's negative output (if possible)

If you're worried about accidental shorts with your PSU you can check if the outputs are connected to ground. To do this, put a multimeter in continuity mode, one at the negative output and another to ground. If there's no continuity you can probe around as much as you want.
This can happen if your PSU is based on a chunky transformer which acts like an isolation transformer and if the negative output isn't connected to ground.

Here, Dave explains it better than me.

I'm getting raped in the ass in HVAC costs (my eletric bill was over $330 fucking dollars)!

I have ground level 1230sft aparment with 20ft cellings. The place bakes in the evening sun and I don't think the widows are properly insulated. The landlord doesn't give a shit, is there some simple solutions like films you can apply over the windows?

Hi all

Sorry for my poor english

I've cracked the sceen of my phone two days ago (Samsung s4 mini). The screen is black and i' really need to retrieve my stuff (contacts, memo, gay porn etc)

I can't do it from my PC because i need to activate an option to actually set the phone on data mode. Of course there's several softwares that make retrieving the data but it's prety expensive.

I have decided to borrow the same phone from a friend in order to transfer the internal memory.

The question is, where is it? Is it on the big motherboard thing or is it another component underneath it?

A while ago I started a thread asking about pouring a concrete base
I got a cold shower of information so the plan changed
I'll build a deck/platform
A few inches off the ground, relatively rectangular shape, approx. 12x15 in size
One side bolted to the house's concrete foundation
One side connected somehow to the already existing deck
One side (opposite to the house) against a small slope (I'll need some digging for that)
One side (opposite to the deck) suspended a bit above ground

The platform will have a small shed on it and will see foot traffic from the lawn to the deck and back
In the shed I'll have some small machines (push lawnmower, small snow blower, power-washer etc etc) and some tools. Depending on the size, maybe some bikes, maybe a scooter.
I don't plan to put anything too heavy on it (first of all, it's not that accessible to anything but foot traffic)

The plan is to build the frame (circumference) out of 6x6 and maybe use some more in the middle.
I've seen youtube videos where people use 2x10s as a ledger board to anchor the deck to the house

Am I overbuilding it?
Are there any pluses in overbuilding it?

I gotta ask. Is your name R.P.?
>>
what's the point of bolting it to the foundation? that's a shitload of work. just put it on top of some concrete handiblocks. it isn't going anywhere
>>
>>1183032
There are many regions in north america where it is code that it must be not only anchored to the concrete but there must also even be a steel cable fastened between the concrete and the shed.

What is the absolute simplest way to send a simple signal from one circuit board to another wirelessly? Basically I'm trying to put a simple pressure sensor under my front door mat and hook it up to a light/alarm or something without using a bunch of wires. So what's the easiest way to send this singular signal?

The most simple way is to use a wire.
>>

Make a clapper that is triggered by the pressure sensor and then use:

possibly too much sun or heat. it is probably nutrient deficiency , possibly nitrogen (either too little nutes or so much that your lettuce stopped taking nutes from the soil). a less likely cause could be mold. plants can be a pain to diagnose.

So in Ontario Canada, you can build a 10x10x10 structure without any permits.

Could I then build such a shanty and potentially live in it hassle free from the government?

Could I build multiple of these, connect them with seperation walls and still no need permit? Like 3 units conjoined?

I live in Ontario too, and unfortunately, it's gonna be a tough slog to complete. First is the property, and it's OMB or municipal designation...residential, commercial, farm...
Water and sewage lines will be difficult, unless your rural, then drill a well and septic...both require permits and inspection...
Hydro can be a bitch...will require permit and inspections...
The province has gone completely retarded with permits and licencing and inspections...part of that is so they know how much to charge on the property tax rate...follow the monies, it all ends up in Toronto...
>>
>>1182626
No, that is an outbuilding. Unless you want a shed with no heat, electricity, water, or sewage; you're shit out of luck.

So you got a couple of boxes of tubes and no tube tester, well op what you need to do is GET A TUBE TESTER! That is pretty much the only way to tell if they are good.

also most of the tubes in those cases are TV tubes and not worth much. Look for 12ax7, 6v6gt, 5u4, 12sq7, 6sq7, 1L6 (very rare), 35L6, 50L6, 35c5, 50c5, 35w4.

Really these cases contained tubes that went in to things to heavy to bring in to a repair shop (TV's and Consoles).
