How do I stop worrying about what others think of me?
Scratch at your face and look paranoid.
become a nudist
Stop thinking of others that way.. Boom!

Welcome to the industry.
I'm a welder and the shit I see in shops on a daily basis is downright astonishing.
Is this your first job? It's like this everywhere.
>old place had carpet
>have a pc chair mat
>move into new place (renting)
>unthinkingly put the chair mat down when I move in
>sit on it for a few months
>one day move the mat

How fucked am I here, /diy/?
The original picture was too big, here. This is what I'm talking about.

You're very fucked in the sense that you are a careless asshole, but in the sense of "can I get away with this?" then the answer is "yes, you can rig up a temporary fix that will probably pass a quick inspection when you move out."
Maybe brush some amber colored shellac into the damaged areas a few days before moving out. Other anons may have better methods ranging from better cosmetic qualities to inexpensive yet quality repairs.
Lots of options there.
>>1190583
I am a careless asshole, I actually had a house inspection yesterday where I just threw a rug over it. I can keep hiding it while I still live here, but when I eventually do move out and they see it, I'm fucked. I have no idea how much it would cost to even repair the floor.
I am going to build a fishing raft out of blue foam from an old dock and wood to build a deck. We are going to put a trolling motor on the back. Use is for fishing mainly. I have a canoe but its very tipsy. I can the materials laying around. So its much cheaper than buying a boat. I have a rough idea. was wondering what you guys think? sort of like a deck boat or a patoon boat.
Deck mainly because it gives you more room to walk around on and use for other things like a boat house
>>1190368
yeah man thats what I was thinking maybe put like a propane little camping barbecue. for cooking food on. im just gonna use foam shape it and then use liek old skids and use them for deck boards
Id be carfull with fires on a raft tho like get stones and shit for underneath it
Hey /diy/. Is there anything cool I can build out of a dismantled computer and >$100?

no
A table

The PSU can be useful for powering stuff. Connect green to any black to turn it on.
I picked this up at an antique store today for $22.
Did I do alright? Is Miller Falls a good brand? I ask because the Stanleys that were the same size were double the price if not more, but I chose this one because it was heavier than the Stanleys and the main knob on the back on this one was easy to turn while the Stanleys felt a little crusty.
>>1189631
As a tool, I'd say you paid about what it's worth. Is the blade sharp?
>>1189635
Nope. It's butter knife dull.
What makes Stanleys so much better anyways?
>>1189637
idk, but you can get a new Stanley, made of epoxy coated cast iron, for $20.

I've got this nasty floor in the upstairs of my house. I've really been neglecting it since I'm so disgusted by it.
Will I as a literal retard with no floor sanding experience have much trouble disposing of this with a floor sander from HD or lowes and getting a quality result?
Any tips on not fucking up?

Will something like this do the job, or should I get get something more aggressive?

Okay, this is not a troll thread, it's a hypothetical DIY thread about something I just thought up.
When I play MMO's for like 8 hours, peeing is the enemy. Would it be possible to set up a air-powered ejection method to move a human sized stream of piss from my chair to the window like the monster from The Abyss?
I know a tube would be more practical but this is a hypothetical question.
>>1188235
>When I play MMO's for like 8 hours, peeing is the enemy
so dont drink or eat anything
>>1188235
>air-powered ejection method to move a human sized stream of piss from my chair to the window like the monster from The Abyss
nope, you can't control a water stream and keep it coherent with movement of air alone
Go to the bathroom you fucking degenerate.
I just inherited a shops worth of old tools. Quite a lot of it is metalworking and automotive tools. They were put away covered in oil and had sat for 20 years collecting dust. They are filthy. Very little rust, just dirt and grim. I have tried cleaning some of the stuff with a sponge, bucket, and simple green and it just makes a mess. The water becomes unusable after only a few minutes.
Has anyone used those shop wipes for stuff like this? Any options on some that are good but not $20+ a tub? Would they even be suitable for what I am trying to do?
>>1188225
stuff without plastic/rubber - toss and scrub in a bucket of gasoline
shouldn't have to say this but do it outside and don't smoke.
dump the used gas out into a tray to evaporate, scrape the sludge into some old newspaper and trash it.
>>1188228
The simple green worked pretty well at removing the stuff. The problem was I have to use a ton of it. First, I tried sponges and they just gunked up and become unusable. I switched to a nylon brush and that worked better. First, I would dunk the tool in a bucket of simple green and water. That turned the water black pretty quick and then to sludge. Instead, I would splash the tool in with a simple green dilution (1 to 10 IIRC), scrub, rinse with a hose, repeat 1 or 2 more times and call it good. That added up fast. I went through a gallon of simple green and several buckets of water. I tried standard shop rags. Basically thicker paper towels. They couldn't cut the grime
So, I figured I looked into baby wipes for tools. It seems they do make them but they are a bit pricey and I don't know how well they will work.

Hey /diy/
Help me brainstorm this project...
>>1187398
I want to be able to relocate the TV so I can put it in front of the window when I want or off to the side.
>>1187398
I'm thinking of using black pipe or the like. My budget is $100.
>>1187398
are you going to build your own mount frames or are you going to buy a fixed/tilt frame and go from there?
These handrails are rusting pretty bad. My plan is to use wire brush on a drill to get the bulk of it off followed by spot sanding and mineral spirits to clean. I already tested a small section and it seems the paint comes off easily, but there are about 10 layers of it dating back to the 50's so probably lead in there.
My questions are: Do I need to get every last bit of rust out of the pitting? And should I get spray paint to do the final coating or stick with a brush?
The final colors will look similar to how it is now, white for the bulk, and a pastel for the curly accents
>>1184704
and here is an area I started on. Just a little bit of pitting still. (I asked in a QTDDTOT thread but there hasnt been a new one yet.)
After knocking as much as you can off give it a dose of rust converter then paint.
A brush should be fine for that finishing off.
>>1184710
Thanks, I'll pick up some of that today. A brush coat is fine for the top layer? Should I get spray primer then? Or just stick with brush paint for all three coats (primer, white, accent)?
Anyone interested in seeing how to build a 3:5 Sidewinder Missile model rocket?
>>1182331
As I mentioned, its built at a 3:5 scale. This is because the real sidewinder has a diameter of 5", making the conversion easy to a 3" diameter rocket.
To start, I gathered a shit load of reference material. I'm going to dump this now.
If you could remove the last two words of that sentence, you would generate considerably more interest in this thread
>>1182332
From these blueprints I made equation driven CAD files in solidworks. I mean to ever last feature. They were lost when my solidstate drive crashed recently or I would upload them for you.
>Install a solar panel and a vent fan on the ceiling
>Rip out the passenger sit and build a raised frame where you can store your clothes. put a mattress and or sleeping bag over it.
>store food/water/miscellaneous things behind the driver seat
>tint the windows/add curtains
>since the motor is in the back and you can access it from inside the car you can even stick food in there to heat up while you drive
Ta-da! Instant mobile dwelling. Thoughts?
All I need to figure out is how to create a surface/table to write/use laptop that can be put away
Where are you going to sleep?
The interior from windshield to windshield is less than 6' long.
>>1181266
I'm 5'5''. Again, you take of the passenger sit and make a bedframe the size of the entire right side of the car. bed above, clothe storage underneath
Hey /diy/
I was thinking about cheap night vision, and had TV remote in hand. And figured what if I used IR to illuminate an area and watch it through a phone with google cardboard VR. Did anyone try this?
To put it into next level, I'm thinking about making monocular. Is there any place where I can find cheap lcd screens online?
>>1190513
kek'd
that's a pretty funny idea
also, imagine the snoopin around sexy sororities you could do
I don't know if its the cheapest, but try a raspberry pi monitor. The smallest and cheapest lcd screen i have seen.
>>1190519
It seems pretty effective. There are even zoomable IR torches, so you can focus distance or close
