Hello, I know, in the general sense, that building a keyboard is kind of unnecessary and simply buying one is cheaper. However, I want a project to pour my autism into and this would be a great way to learn more about electronics, I'd have to learn about all sorts of things while making/designing it...
I would love to make something similar to this, maybe even with my own custom PCB
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPc1X_WpiRA
I know, ther is an ergodox, but really, I'd maybe not add columanr staggering, but make it a split orthlinear/orthogonal keyboard, which is not availiable on the market.
If I go fully insane I'd maybe even try to make it bluetooth or 2.4/5GHz compatible wireless with an Li-Ion pack and all, maybe make it so that it supports both cabled and cablee-less usage, so that making it with RGBleds is not insane from a power-management perspective...
Open to ideas here, tell me guys, is it too insane?
I'd start from hackaday.io and hackaday.com, see what others did and hack it:

Thanks for the reply, awesome read, I am not sure if it would be a good idea to use 2pcbs for each side though, I ersonally would probably prefer bringing every component on one pcb, though, not that sure in the end.
Are there any advantages I'm not thinking of right now, afaik it just adds to the height and makes more PCB manufacturing necessary, can you explaing?
I'll have to make a list of features I want, and then I'll have to look and see how to bes implement them, thanks, have a nice day!

He used two PCBs so the front one have only buttons on it, the second PBC contains everything else. That way first PCB doubles as elegant front plate for the keyboard
What's the worst house you've ever seen, /diy/?
Pic related. It's that shitty replica of the Simpsons' house in Nevada.

The vibrator, so you can stir your boipucci juice with it
The motor, charging board (or the electronics ),transformer, the brush itself ( for cleaning) , battery (try reviving it
What kind of screw driver could I use to get it out?
Trolls please Dont reply.

Flathead.
Everything is a flathead.
I bought myself a birthday gift since I'm a loser and no one loves me.
100ths since my calipers are in 1000th's and conversion is a bitch.
Super sexy, feels good in my hands. Well worth the money.

I would love to get into rpi beacsue there is an awesome community for it and it sounds like fun. I have assembled roughly 5 computers and know a lot about components and hardware but absolutely nothing about coding. Do i need to learn code for this? And, what is the best way to get into rpi?
>>1190085
What the fuck do you mean by get into raspberry pi?
>>1190090
>>1190085
a raspberry pi is a computer about the size of a wallet.
what do you want to "get into"?
I have a magnetron from a common microwave oven, the power supply in the oven was broken, but I have a new one.
My replacement power supply is between 6000 volts and 7500 volts.
I'm worried that this is too high and may damage the magnetron.
Is it an acceptable operating range for a magnetron?
>>1190016
how do you know the power level of him?
>>1190019
what?
>>1190020
you know the power level of the common but not the broken
how?
Posted this about 10 mins ago, didn't see it come up, maybe it didn't post
Anyway! I'm thinking about a small woodworking project, a toy full scale Desert Eagle, made of wood, obviously not able to shoot, I'm in Canada, they would send bears. Anyway, I'm looking for a way to make the slide move when the trigger is pulled, maybe springs or rubber bands? Anybody have a decent (not too advanced) idea?
Thanks guys.
>>1189946
You will need power if you want:
A: the slide to return to position
B: the whole action to be repeatable without manually reseting the mechanism.
Make one that doesn't move first before worrying about the rest.

You should so paint that black and run up pointing it at cops. They love that prank.
Yo so i've been picking up fixing shit as a hobby.
Got my friend's headset (jack busted off cause it was an L shape and he probably stepped on it while it was on the floor).
Ordered a TRRS wire to replace.
The old headset (with mic) had 5 wires. L,R,Gnd + Mic, Gnd.
The wire I got has 4 wires, presumably L,R,Gnd,Mic
So i'm "missing" a second ground wire.
My initial thought are two: untwist the ground wire and make it into two leads, or, splice some copper into the end of the main ground to create that second lead.
I suppose both should do the same thing in theory, but, will either do what I want it to do? And if so, what's better, splicing?
It's all just ground, right? Mic and speakers don't need their own separate groundings- true?
And here's my new wire.
I assume blue is mic.
I need a ground for the mic.
Just splice a second copper wire onto the main copper wire?
yeah? based?
the old cable appeared to have only 4 wires also, 2 coppers. But one of the coppers was wrapping up the green/red striped mic wire.
But it doesn't look like the case on my new wire.
one speaker working.
haven't spiced the ground yet.
pray
What is all of this stuff for treating my well water? Do I have to do any regular maintenance (e.g. adding salt to the softener)? Changing filters?
Should anything be inspected by a professional occasionally? Or is this more of a "if it works leave it be" kind of system?
>>1189508
The blue trashcan looking thing is likely a brine tank for a water softener. One of those blue cylinder units is likely a softener, not sure what the other one would be, Im going to guess the smaller two tank unit is a dual media softener and the large one is some sort of prefilter for the softener.
The white thing on the back is a reverse osmosis system with the big jug on the side a holding tank.
The hell is the RO unit feeding? That's about the right size unit for a steamer.
>>1189520
>The hell is the RO unit feeding? That's about the right size unit for a steamer.
I think it is for the drinking tap at the kitchen sink
Filters need to be changed evey 6 months
Salt added mo thy and a yearly clean /flush.
If your on well you should have water lab tested 2 times a year.
I test 6 times a year, as we are near farmland.
I also have a large uv sterilizer.
I have a very specific question regarding tables with two pedestals where each pedestal is supported by 3 feet (pic related):
Should a foot from each pedestal point towards the middle of the table (top photo), or should they point towards the end (bottom photo)?
>>1189454
Here is another example. The table looks wrong with no leaf, but when extended it looks fine
>>1189454
pretty sure they can go either way
>>1189466
one way looks more stupid than the other way
inb4 then do it the other way
Hey /diy/
Built my own self-hosted music streaming server. I needed something that could handle my large collection of FLAC files but nothing was doing the job, so I built my own program:

What am I getting myself into? Is it even remotely close?

>>1189364
Yeah, sure, sounds obvious. However, how can a functional school teach that shit but not general EE?
>>1189374
Not him, but my college offers Industrial Electronics and Automation. Names might sound specific or fancy but you'll probably cover analog as well as digital electronics and then specialize in something.
Check the subjects for each year just in case.
I purchased a Edison bulb and want to build a holder for it.
The lamp should stand on my desk/shelf.
Anyone has good ideas for this?
