I strongly disagree.
Several of my favorite parts are in the last couple of chapters, particularly if you let the werm dominate you and force you to do stuff, as well as what happens with Rene if you take said path.

Normally I'm not into any dom/sub shit, but a parasite burrowed into your brain forcing you to do things just tickles my pickle in the right way.

I can understand some chapters are not everybody's cup of tea, as it does change quite a bit as the story progresses, but saying it's shit and to not play it is just stupid. Just play it all if you want, with the knowledge that it varies quite a bit.

The beginning of PI felt like a logical series of events.

That's how the beginning of PI goes:

>it is entirely intended for Chet/Chloe to conquer the ship and the station. The counterattack team waits behind the locked doors on the right for her to wear the wermsuit to intervene

Why the fuck it so goddamn complicated? That's one of the damn problems. Instead of writing some good characters, let's instead make more complex plot that people rarely care about and absolutely grindy chapter 3, kinda grindy 2 where I couldn't progress cause I infected a wrong person with wrong thing and let's make completely incomprehensible things happen and over-complicate shit in chapter and 4 and 5, while people are trying to play the goddamn with a dick in a hand.
You can make the plot more complex if you can clearly describe what's happening and keep people invested, but no way that shit is happening the last time I checked.
It just felt like project went on longer and more popular than expected, and the author ran out of good ideas and decided to go a bit of the rails.

Fuck man, I just wish for a parasite game that is consistently good, but it's is too niche to happen

I would go a step further and suggest PI would be a lot stronger if the dev cut out either the space content or the Earth content and just have it be one or the other.

As it is now, the scope of the game is too big. it feels less like a naturally progression and more like being dragged from setting to setting to hit whatever checklist that particular act has. If they narrowed the scope to either
a) alien on alien ship gets infected by parasite, infects ship and then station or
b) human on Earth gets infected by parasite, infects family and then town
It keeps the same basic structure that most of the people here seem to like (parasite controls host -> infects small group -> infects large group) but doesn't break the focus of the game between 27 different acts and an overcomplicated plot. It keeps the whole gameplay experience focused and the plot tight. It'd also be much easier to develop and expand on one setting and one group of characters.

When I was writing my first story, I got to the end of the first draft and realized that one of the characters, one of my favorite characters, was hindering the plot and the arcs of the other characters. He had to go. It wasn't an easy decision, it made me feel silly and stupid for wasting so much time on that character, but in the end it made the story much stronger.

Whether you're a writer, a musician, an artist, a filmmaker, a game dev, or whatever, there will always come times when you're working on a project and you realize it's gotten too big or too off-track or too unfocused and that something major needs to be changed or removed.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the spaceship/space station setting, the dev clearly put a lot of time and thought into it, and I really like the town setting and the family for same reason. But there's too much of a disconnect between the two settings and the dev's attempts to do try and splice them together by dragging us back and forth with this complicated plot isn't working very well and the game suffers for it.

After reading through this thread, I feel I need to point out that I'm overhauling the ship/space base section and it's going to take a while. Chapter 6 is going to be folded into chapter 3, and chapter 7 is going to be nuked completely.

What will eventually happen is the space section will feel like a stand-alone experience and then the home section will feel like another stand-alone experience.

When I started making this, I just started building out in all directions and seeing what worked and what didn't. The canvas elements were the most effort and added nothing to the feel of the game, which is a shame but hey that's how it goes and all those sections are going to be excised eventually.

So yes, the scope is being narrowed and it's getting refined. It's just slow, because currently the bottleneck is the artist and I don't want to push them because I don't want the quality to drop. There's like... at least 15 full pictures to put in just for chapter 1 and then all of chapter 2 needs to be overhauled.

Have you considered, instead of using a mechanical assembly, using a ferrofluid-and-electromagnet system? It would be far simpler, less prone to failure, quieter, and more energy-efficient to instead use a number of sequenced electromagnets and a closed volume of thin ferrofluid to create the motion.

Size would be the greatest constraint; the thing would be at least Fleshlight-sized in order to accommodate the magnets, as their field directions would need to orient in to the operating cavity. See figure 1. Motion control would be extremely simple to operate and could facilitate all kinds of cool stuff.

You might be able to simplify and shrink the assembly by instead using a single solenoid and a clever assembly of valves. That could be simple-but-clunky to very elegant depending on how you do it, though it would likely require running return lines along the exterior of the solenoid. See figure 2.

Following up on my diagram and having re-read the post thread, I should note that I misunderstood the objective to be the creation of a toroidal peristaltic pump for use as a fapsleeve.

I only have two problems with it. I don't have ferrofluid laying around, and if that system did fail, getting ferrofluid in your holes is a goddamn nightmare. Hell, getting it on my desk is pain in the ass. The particle size required to get the iron compounds to stay in suspension mean they stain everything, and it's a pretty nasty skin irritant.
That said, I'll still probably end up trying it out at some point. Getting a magnetic field strong enough to give the fluid a satisfying pressure may be an issue, and sealing the chamber it's in would also be a challenge. It needs to be in something that's not, under any circumstances, going to break during sexual activities, but at the same time, it needs to retain the flexibility to allow the ferrofluid to move around.
I was actually playing around with the idea of ferrofluid filled elastic bags warping under electromagnets as kind of an art project a few years ago. It might me nice to go back and make that, "sculpture."

The game's concept stays pretty damned good right through the first parts. The game play shifts are incredibly jarring though. Up until you finish the mall, everything is OK, at least as OK as a free game is going to be. Once you're into the sprites and stuff, the game just feels like an experiment. I think that's exactly what it is though, someone making a game and learning as they go.

I believe the author is redoing much of the early content with and eye to replacing the later content though, so let's hope we get a more consistent game of infecting the citizens of earth.
