Also, if I could request some help.
I'm searching for arts related to the OP one - a girl formed of contour/silhouette, without any details except clothes and eyes, with colorful background.
>>
Sadly, looking for that specific category is a pain, I've spent last 2 hours searching and found only a few, so if somebody could help me with initial dump, I'd appreciate that.

If I had to point the most important factor, that would be the contrast between a character and background.

Moving on to something else.
It's surprisingly hard to find quality material, especially because of all that edgy shit laying around.

Op, a lot of this work looks very similar to Ava's Demon.

I'd recommend checking it out if you like art like this

This is the kinda shit where you get a boner and freak out at the same time.

Then you go to bed jacking it off, only to see that thing, continue jacking it off, and experience weird eldritch sex.

There's a lot of mustard involved, don't ask why.
>>
>>7313714
That's the whole appeal for me - I absolutely love this kind of stuff, especially because my nightmares are very vivid and lucid.

The fear factor wears off after few of them, the only thing left is mind blowing experience and feeling of unity with that darker side of yourself.
>>
>>7313717
Adding few things - preferences like that are being exceptionally well translated into your sphere of dreams, especially if you are tampering with lucid dreaming and alternative states of consciousness. This can manifest itself during a sleep paralysis (I recommend looking up that one). Hallucinations experienced in that state can sometimes take the form of >>7313570 something like this.

Also, a little funny tip for anyone interested - during a lucid dream session, try to find a mirror and look deep inside of it.
>>
One additional request - if you have some arts of slime/ghost/other girls with skeleton/bones exposed (in non cruel way please), post them

Maybe it's the issue of taste, but I haven't been able to find a lot of good stuff, mostly because those were filled with crappy, edgy porn images of beings not even resembling anything humanoid.
It seems that the selling point of an art piece for me would be not macabre factor, but serenity, shown in surreal/nightmarish settings.

Looking back, I should have remade the thread with the fixed name plate right when i spotted the mistake (about 40 posts in). In past records, threads like these used to attract more discussion or general talk about our freaky fetishes.

That is the general gist, an idea I had when creating this thread. Rather than just skim through another bizzare fetish thread and do a quick fap'n'forget, I wanted to show people that, with proper mindset, we can appreciate the true beauty hidden behind a curtain of the most common fears of mankind. I hope it will become somewhat memorable and encouraging to expand our own horizons.

This is a nice thread. Very unexpected, and different sort of art than usual, so it's been appreciated. Sometimes, I go to /d/ to find some porn. other times, I go just to see what's there, and it's nice to trip over something like this that's less porn than it is just a lot of really interesting and really nice art.

Sadly, all I could do is probably contribute with the usual sort of fare, as it's about all I have saved. Some body horror reminiscent of a certain John Carpenter movie, not much else that might be of interest. And I don't have any of my own art (of my own waifu) that's full-on body horror creepy yet, either.

I do wonder where to find this artist or more of their stuff, though. Or things like it.

Personally I think that deviation from standard, ordinary settings is a great opportunity for some artists to show the world their individual, one-of-a-kind style. It also shows how good they are in morphing abstract ideas into shapes, which should be their primary skill.

Willingness to draw things beyond what exists (without delving into pure abstraction), and beyond simple variations on well-worn motifs is a wonderful trait to see in an artist. The most enjoyable things to see are novel explorations of bizarre concepts, rendered in a manner that somehow gives them a verisimilitude despite being (almost) impossible - bearing an obscure yet inexplicably intuitive dream logic.

To start with, I had a pretty good dream recollection abilities since I remember, some of my early nightmares even managed to mildly traumatise me (imagine a creepy ass chef in his white uniform chasing you with a huge knife around the supermarket, or badass witch tying you to the stone table on the top of a tower, then ripping your guts out - all of this when I was about 5-6 yrs old). Thanks to that, I learned that when I spot the differences between a dream and waking world, I can, with a bit of an effort, make the dream stop.

This continued on for some time, and once in a while I had really vivid and long dreams, during which I had a partial control over my decisions. Meanwhile, when I was around 12-13 yrs old, I stumbled upon a video game called Eversion (if you haven't heard a word about it, give it a go, it's free and short enough to finish in 30 or so minutes). The true ending of this game was the seed of madness planted within me, which lain dormant for the next few years. Somewhere around my early years of high school I've found a site dedicated to the lucid dreaming, after reading a few guides I've decided to practice it.

Given the fact I was pretty good with remembering my dreams, stuff went fast. Few changes to my sleep schedule (adapting to segmented sleep regimen), keeping a dream diary and practicing reality checking - it gave quick, and very promising results. Night after night I've been growing more familiar with my subconsciousness, learning to withstand this very thin border between achieving lucidity and waking up, eventually maganging to pull off a few feats I thought were impossible (my favourite was accessing the hidden memory part and pulling from there a certain piece of information I wouldn't be able to remember in awakened state (decimal expansion of Pi to the tenth number after coma).
>>
>>7346998
And once, during a very fateful night, an anomaly occured. This is the phenomenon familiar to everyone tampering long enough with their brain - the elusive Sleep Paralysis. You can check more scientific info about that on the net, but the general gist is, you are stuck for a long time in a state, where your muscles are completely immobilised, and your consciousness is on equal level with your awakened one. Though the key factor is, your brain itself hadn't finished it's memory reprocessing, that's why all of your senses are overloaded with random stimulus, which you cannot distinguish from reality. And that's when "She" visited me for the first time.
>>
>>7346985

Eversion is a good game, I took a measure of creative influence from it.

I kept a dream diary in years past - to tell the truth, I was in a middle of a project to ascertain the veracity of a variety of paranormal phenomena, so checking if my dreams had any kind of pattern of predictive power was on the list. In the end, there was no indication that they did, so I dropped the project. Later on I kept notes on especially memorable dreams, though.

>decimal expansion of Pi to the tenth number after coma

Wait, you pulled mathematical knowledge out of your unconscious memory through a dream? I want to hear more about this.

The first encounter was rather... violent. At that moment, everything went completely dark (or void, because I felt as the whole world just dissapeared - which I hadn't thought of strange, about 1/3 of my dreams is devoid of vision). Shortly after, I've felt tremendous pressure, pushing on me from every side, growing stronger from where my legs should be (pure propioconception, since I couldn't see anything at all). What made me panic was the fact, that this pressure had a shape of sorts, like there was something "crawling" on you, forcing it's way more and more upwards. I cannot say how long this lasted, in cases like that you don't wake up like you usually do. I was thinking a lot about that experience, and wondering what should I do in case it repeats itself.

The second encounter happened about a month after. The premise was identical - once again I found myself in a pitch black abyss, and once again I fell a presence. But this time I decided that I'll examine this being in more detail (however strange that might sound). Somehow I managed to move my arm (or was that just my imagination? no way to know), and grasped at something, which I determined was a hand. And from the shape, feeling and size, I came to a conclusion this is certainly a hand of a woman. This is the only recollection I was able to make, it all ended shortly after. But from that time ownward, I began to long for those encounters. I've became simply fascinated by that being, "visiting" me once in a blue moon, trying to learn more about it. And month ago, I've finally came upon an art piece, which managed to grasp a concept of this peculiar being, which is of course, the picture form the entry post.

My most common reflex is looking at my right hand, with a ring finger flexed towards the palm. In lucid dream, not only my fingers have different lenghts, sometimes there are more of them. Other cues would be trying to use any electronic device (computer keyboard for example, once I tried to use it, and not only a single stroke produced several inputs, none of character seemed distinguishable), making a glassy surfaces ripple like water, or, what I discovered two months ago - looking at mirror (seriously, you should try it at least once).

This was a test to prove or deny, that during a REM phase, a memory reshuffling is taking place (sorting recent memories into relevant parts of the brain, making connections between them etc). To get a reliable proof, I had to "summon" a piece of information which managed to meet certain criteria:
1) I encountered this information at least once in my life
2) It has to be something which is easy to check and requiring precision at the same time
3) And the most important - you shouldn't be able to remember this in normal situation (which I certainly couldn't - at that time the most I remembered were 5 numbers after a comma).

All happened pretty spontaneously, during one dream I achieved alertness (I was climbing a huge, curved stairway in abandoned building), and somehow decided that my dream is stable enough to pull this off. I knew that in most of cases, focusing too much on something leads to quick awakening, so I ascertained that I have few "seconds" as limit. I imagined the number and the extension I knew of (3,14159), and the rest started to form in my mind - coming to abrupt end after the 10th number. Instantly after I awakened, I rushed to my desk, grabbed a piece of paper (used bus ticket), and wrote the number I remembered a seconds before: 3,1415926535.
>>
>>7347077
As cool as it sounds, it has little to none practical usage, because you don't usually "remember" you've forgotten something, and this phenomenon is so rare and uncertain that, apart from the fun factor, you don't really feel the urge to repeat it (as a matter of fact, I've never been able to replicate it, because I have no idea what piece of information could I use apart from mathematical constants).

But in the end, I'm rather fond of lucid dreaming, because it's a really relaxing experience - all the memes and /x/ larping aside, dream strolling through a silent, empty urban area, under a veil of night, with warm, gentle breeze brushing your face - this is the most comfy thing I can imagine.

Ah, I was wondering how this all tied in to your original request. You have a dream friend! At least, an entity, imagined or not, that visits you occasionally. Her rather unnerving nature beside, I would look forward to her appearances, too, were I in your position. I hope she visits you tonight~

My earliest experience with sleep paralysis was vaguely similar, but without the component of repetition. As a young child, I "woke up" into a fully aware state, but found that my limbs remained rigid not matter how much I attempted to move them. There was a stifling pressure on my chest and abdomen, and although there was only darkness in view, I had the distinct impression of a witch over me, in the very traditional sense of a black-robed crone. It terrified me, all the more so due to being paralyzed and not knowing why. Later on when learning about sleep paralysis, I read about the idea of night hags, witch-like creatures that crouch on your chest at night, which I found curiously descriptive of what happened to me despite having not heard of it at the time.

The author of this pic has a outrageous gallery on Pixiv, some of the best abstract arts I've ever seen, each and everyone of them overflowing with intense emotions.

I have a question for you - after you've stopped to be scared of standard nightmarish tropes (eldritch or warped creatures doing various painful things to you), have your nightmares kind of changed their essence to something WAY different?
>>
>>7347077
>>7347089
Nice. Not of much practical use, no, but it being possible at all is very interesting.

>>7347115
I am guessing that they have for you?

Hm, my dreams are different from yours. Less pain and terror, more conceptual strangeness - many of them are like science fiction or fantasy short stories. Here is one from my notes:

"I am introduced to a girl who appears to have no legs. She reveals to me secretly that she is one of twelve parts of a higher-dimensional being, after which I am able to see that her legs are merely in a subtle dimension. She also informs me that I am one of the other twelve parts, before a young man appears, upset with me and apparently afraid that I will do something bad to her. She defends me to him, saying that I am one of them, in the process making it clear that he is one of the other fragments."

My dreams often have a high density of ideas like, many disjointed yet some surprisingly rational upon review. I often know background information to what is going on without having directly learned it, such as one dream in which I recalled a detailed history of an undead-powered industrial revolution that led to the current violent post-apocalyptic situation I was living out.
>>
>>7347135
As long as as standard dreams go, most of them follow pretty realistic pattern: motive of traveling by public communication, visiting my previous school building, attending lectures, repeating scientific experiments or just meeting a memory-made manifestations of my friends or colleagues. From more unsetting stuff, fairly often during random part of my dream, suddenly my teeth are starting to fall out one by one (yet another thing I've gotten used to).

As for nightmares - from what I've learned, those are mostly happening during a certain stage of n-REM sleep, and function as a some kind of alert sent to you by your subconsciousness - to remind you that life could bring you sadness or terror anytime, and keep you focused. But the moment any standard nightmare fails to incude fear in you, the shift happens (at least in my case). Instead of dreaming about being a victim to some horrible accident, you dream about being the executioner. And that's the absolutely worst thing that may happen, if you consider yourself as a peaceful or empathic person - because instead of waking up shuddering with fear, you wake up with gut wrenching feeling of guilt and self-hatred. Because instead of taking away portions of your sanity, those nightmares take something else - each one gnawing at your humanity itself. I've long ago accepted the fact that human beings are not conditioned to do only good deeds, that in each and every one of us there lies malicious intent. But seeing those horrible deeds made by your subconsciousness? That's the whole other thing.

You should go to more museums if that's the best you've seen.

I mean sure it's cool for a kid on the internet, but you can tell he's young it's amateurish, it doesn't come close to the masters
>>
>>7347158
At least those type of nightmares happen really rare - about once in two months, so most of time I'm able to push that aside and proceed with my life like nothing happened. The only worrying aspect is - because most of my dreams happen in reality-like setting, I'm able to distinguish that I'm in a dream only every so often. That's why they continue on undisrupted, and the moment they suddenly change into nightmares is usually to late to take proper action. That's why, contrary to "standard" bad dreams I had long ago, I cannot escape from these.

I consider myself to have a pretty strong grasp on reality, that's why I'm sure they won't impact my behavior or judgement in any way. I'll propably get used to them after a while, maybe then they'll morph yet again into something else?

Nightmares being hypothetical threat simulations to increase survival chance was my understanding of it, although scientific research on dreams has a long way to go before verifying it.

Intriguing, though - you became immune to fear from nightmares, so they moved on to inducing guilt instead? Your mind is Silent Hill.

By the way, I will definitely look in a mirror the next time I have a nightmare.
>>
>>7347180
Maybe there is some kind of defensive mechanism under after all. Maybe my subconsciousness is showing me them, so I won't end up doing stupid shit like Raskolnikov from "Crime and Punishment".

Nevertheless, domain of dreams is absolutely a fascinating topic, I'm glad we were able to share some of our insights tonight.

By the way, would you recommend me something to try next time I'll manifest my lucidity? As of now, I've tried flying, teleporting, jumping very high, going through glassy surfaces, driving a car, using computer, trying to establish a dream-link with people I've met inside a dream (those were exceptionaly hillarious) and just laying down and gazing at the stars.
>>
>>7347209
Perhaps. If nightmares are meant to address possible threats, then one's own nature could be the greatest threat of all.

Indeed! I have enjoyed discussing the topic. As for something to try... you now have me wondering what dream-linking was like. What about reading dream-person minds? For that matter, controlling dream-person minds. Shapeshifting would also work - modifying one's arm seems easiest to test, because it can be checked with little effort.

It would be nice to have a way of hearing how the attempt goes~
