There's a Time Stop general thread that just about to fall off the boards. I tend to avoid those threads, but someone posted something drawn by a familiar artist.

Apparently, someone commissioned "teh-dave" to draw a eight-page time-stop comic. Now, I remember when dave drew a comic strip called Chugworth Academy that was... not very good, but the art was nice.

He's apparently also drawn something called "U.S. Angel Corps." Ostensibly, it's a parody of Charlie's Angels, where the buxom women beat up bad guys effortlessly. Here, they are shot dead and killed at every opportunity... in shocking graphic detail.

Yes, Angel Corps is guro. It's like the ultimate in Bad End stuff, where stuff I don't even want to go into happens to the girls. Compared to the recent time-stop story (which features the Angel Corps girls), it's mighty tame. As in... they all survive.

I'm not viscerally disgusted by what I read in Angel Corps, and I'm not offended by it. I'm not even bothered by the literal objectification of the women or all the rape stuff, or at least not more than normal.

But BOY, reading Angel Corps sure bummed me out. The fact that I like his art makes it more depressing somehow. As Roger Ebert said of I Am Curious (Yellow), it's"not merely not erotic. It is anti-erotic. [This] will drive thoughts of sex out of your mind for weeks."

Well, maybe not weeks.

As is it, I've written at least one story to see if I could take a premise that felt like rape and make it entirely consensual. That was the very silly Come to a Head, about the dullahan.

I think most property and currency is going to be handled in a top-down manner, so the Alpha will allocate food and resources to his pack, obviously taking a larger cut for himself, and that will continue up the pyramid, with a Riddick style "keep what you kill" (or this case out-fight) mentality.

No military bases besides the ones you mentioned, but there are always UNN ships in orbit carrying out patrols or operations as Borealis is close to disputed space.

There's one landing pad in Elysia that will accommodate one shuttle at a time. Dropships will be landing wherever there is available space, but there's a lot of grazing land for livestock in Elysia so it wouldn't be an issue to land there. Large ships make planetfall and they'd most likely be landing in the desert outside the territory.

There are only a few dozen humans on Borealis at any time, I wouldn't call the embassy a compound so much as one building.

I mostly call it a compound because there's no fucking way it wouldn't be fortified. Also, I would figure that there'd probably be a second building, if not a third (with another for staff housing; rather than them presumably sleeping in their offices or whatever) to house whatever poor bastards are on shore leave there, rather than keeping them in the same building as everything else (unless it's a relatively big building for how many people there are, and then just a wing would make sense)
Embassies where the staff live on premises are actually pretty big, even if the staff is that small (see a lot of western embassies in less stable countries)

The way I wrote it in Fineprint, the building was all one unit, it had offices and bedrooms inside it and the small number of staff were expected to live there. I would say they might have expanded it since, but it's in the city center and that wouldn't be easy. I didn't specify the dimensions so you could make it pretty big.

They're one of the most interesting things to write about, the scenario has been played out so often in science fiction for that reason. Personally I'm not too good at world building because I don't like extreme details to inhibit me or come back to bite me in the ass.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, there aren't really any hard rules about story-to-sex ratio. The thing you'll eventually want to ask yourself is whether you are going for story with erotic elements, or written porn. If the latter, you'll eventually need to deliver on some extended sex scenes. If the former there aren't any rules, people are either going to be engaged by the whole package or not at all.

As for specifics for this story, there are minor things that could be tightened up, but overall I don't think there's a real problem with pace towards the sex. The one thing that stuck out as blunt exposition was the runthrough of the aliens physiology. It is almost always preferable to give world details in context.

1: You are describing the MCs first encounter with one in the very next paragraph. This gives a perfect opportunity to show his wonder at their appearance, emphasising the things that make them different from humans, and the things that are shockingly alike.

2: Future encounters can showcase the range of different appearances in the species, spicing up their description

3: Curious details like the inbreeding stuff can provide character moments for aliens, since it would presumably be a point of embarrassment.

I think you overdid it a bit with the MC. While I think you were right about having him be rather abnormal due to his unique upbringing, he came off as infantile. I'm sure there was some level of intent with that, given the nursing handjob, but it became incredibly grating very quickly. If she was his teacher, she did a shitty job, as he didn't actually speak a complete sentence in the entire story. If you wanted to reinforce his immaturity, you may have wanted to go with childish excitability, rather than making him sound like an idiot.

I do think that the smut came out rather well, though I would have liked to see more emphasis on her inhumanity. I felt that her nature and role was much more clear in the plain text than the sex. You go into a great deal of description when they hug in the hallway, but largely stop once the milking begins. I don't think it hurt the scene, but the robot angle fell flat.

Lack of scientific rigor in smut hardly bothers me, but the tag really should be "gynoid". Android is not strictly incorrect, but gynoid is more accurate and clear. Also, you have good taste in music.

Well, that's just it. I've never written for commission before. It's not merely not knowing how much to charge, it's that I literally don't know the first thing about how to set this up.

I've done commissions for a few years but I'm not the only way. Usually it goes like this:

(R = Requestor, A = Author)

1. R: Get a request including requested length.
2. A: Write the first or second draft.
3. R: Asks for improvements and feedback.
4. A: Implements the changes.
5. R + A: Repeat 0-3 more times.
6. R: Is happy and sends money.

Now, I work entirely on the honor system. Some authors ask for 50% on the first draft, others ask for some percentage at the beginning to start.

Things to look out for:

* Some commissions *really* like to ask for 6-23,892,398 women or scenes in a 10k word count. That is so painful to work with.
* Some don't like to share results, these are hard to advertise your skills.
* Some will ask for things you might not be comfortable with. I have gotten a lot of snuff, rape, CP, and vore stuff over the years. You want to know your limits before you go too far.

I like to favor frequent customers (5% discount for every 100k words).

Pricing is extremely subjective, and I'd have a hard time giving you advice on that, depends on word count, what the content is, how comfortable you are writing it, how much control the commissioner wants, how much free time you have, etc.

Generally the way I do it is:

-iron out exactly what the commissioner wants before you start in terms of word count and content, agree on how much control he gets in terms of rewrites and changes, and if you'll charge extra for significant rewrites or if he gets a set number included

-decide how you want to be paid, up front or half before and half after is usually good

-Google Docs is very useful in allowing the commissioner to leave comments and suggestions in real-time, he can highlight text he wants changed and make edits, things like that

-make sure the client is actually reading your updates in a timely manner and addressing any complaints he has, otherwise a small error can balloon into a massive rewrite if he misses it and lets you keep writing

-remember to communicate and make sure you explain any changes you feel are necessary, or ask permission if you feel the need to do anything that you've not discussed

-I feel it's important not to let the commissioner stifle your creativity by being too controlling, he's hiring you for your writing talent, and he needs to understand that in order to get the best results he should be willing to let you fill in the blanks and tie his plot points together in an organic way

I think a lot of corruption authors get lazy and either start the story directly from the corruption without really establishing the victim's personality first, or pretty much end the story as soon as they've been corrupted without really making it clear what their life and personality are going to be like now.

Of course, if it's a fanfic, you can more or less assume people are familiar with the character to begin with, but still.

Slow corruption is usually sweeter, but unless you're good at establishing some pacing, it can also be really boring and drag out a lot. It's a little difficult to find a good middle ground between "zap, you're evil" sort of corruption and a slow, dull, dragging story where nothing actually erotic happens in a long time.

I was thinking of having the mating seasons be decades apart, as large reptiles can live for hundreds of years, so the character wouldn't necessarily have to be young in order to have never changed sex. The sex changes happen due to environmental pressure by the way, so for example if he's gone a certain amount of time without smelling the pheromones of a female (or something like that) he'd start to change.
Yeah maybe the size is a bit big, might be too late to change it though as I recall stating their weight in a prior story. Krell are super friendly though so I imagine they'd be very gentle and caring.

With the Krell the running joke is kind of that nobody knows much about them. They joined the Coalition before the humans, they don't communicate much, nobody knows where they're from (at the point in time your story would be written) and they always seem to end up where they're needed without anyone necessarily ordering them to be there. Their origins and biology are going to be a mystery to anyone but themselves, at least until I'm done with my story.

In mine there's going to be a crisis on the Pinwheel, because the Krell are breeding and nobody knows how, as they're all supposed to be male. They start using up more resources than the station can handle, and so they send a team of UNN scientists to get to the bottom of it. Through the course of the story they will discover that they can changer genders, and where they come from.

You remind me of a friend of mine. He's impossible to beta-read for because he always outstrips you, before you've finished the first chapter he's posting the third.

Though I imagine the prospect of all that sweet patreon money has a motivating effect. How do you have the time to write so much?

I started the Patreon fairly late, and I've been using the money from that to buy character art mostly, but yeah it's encouraging.

I'm a NEET so I have plenty of free time right now, with some luck I hope to make this my job and then I won't ever have to stop.

What do you need to be able to do, as a writer, to be able to make money off it like this?

I can't say really, I'm still a ways off being financially viable at the moment. You can make good money doing commissions, but of course that eats up a lot of time and unless you charge an exorbitant fee, you'll never make anything beyond a supplemental income doing that. Patreon is great, but I've never seen anyone besides visual artists and musicians make any serious money that way.
I've been trying to get into self-publishing but that presents its own set of problems that I've not been able to resolve yet.

I'm hoping that with a combination of the three I can make enough to live on, and thus be able to justify devoting all of my time to it rather than having to get a job at some point, in which case I'd have a lot less time to write. It's definitely achievable, you just have to be patient.

I can imagine. Now that I've realised I can't leave this country for the next couple of years without risking a relapse of my Crohns, I'm trying to think of what I can do with the few skills I have.

Just need to work on trying to finish more of the stuff I write.

There's a thought, do you ever lose interest in the stuff you're writing halfway through?

Yeah, sometimes. I try to finish everything I write, and I impose a daily quota on myself of 2000 words, so even on a bad day when I'm not feeling it or I've lost interest I'll still get a substantial amount done.

It helps to minimize distractions, I bought an old Thinkpad X32 for typing and I like to sit away from my desktop on the other side of the room so I'm not tempted to browse. It's too much of a toaster to be capable of multitasking so I can't waste time browsing Youtube or Imgur or anything like that.
Of course some days I'm having a ton of fun and I spend all day writing, but the quota helps on off days.
