Although I share your general sentiment, I think that's a very cynical view of how Patroen/Enty's are handled.

If you just focus on the price, or difficulty, of getting a commission or request from an average artist's Patreon compared to what it would be normally if they just handled them outside of Patreon, it's definitely more of a hassle, but Patron/Enty is meant to be a tool for artists to more easily connect and be supported by their fans.

The inconvenient truth is that, for someone that does commssion a lot of artists, the rise of Patreon/Enty means that more and more artists have less of an incentive to do commissions the old way since they're now tapping in to a more stable income where they can set the terms and expectations. But I wouldn't begrudge them for it, although there are some that might take advantage of the wording, or later renege on their promises, it really just has to be taken on a case by case basis.

I mean I'm all for artists getting paid for what they do, but not in the way that it's wound up.

I will say that URU is one of the few that seems to handle the system better than most in that his productivity DID increase highly, so I'm not directly complaining about him even if the "paid request" thing is still fucked up. Most artists that make use of Patreon/Enty either simply split their already low amount of work further between what they put out for free and what gets paywalled, making it so that the situation improves highly for them but gets worse for everyone that enjoys their artwork.

Assuming I'm invulnerable in both scenarios, I'd easily take the 2nd.
