The problem I wanted to overcome is that the image had non-uniform shadow on it, so what I want is an image of the page without the line work so I can subtract it from the original.
This can be done by erasing over the linework (doesn't need to be too thorough or accurate, but use pencil over brush) selecting the empty space then filling it with photoshop 'content aware' option. This approximates the page without lines which you then subtract from the original. Might need a invert somewhere.
