With all the buzz around the 40th I finally decided to start reading. Picked up the anniversary Prog, and the first volumes of Shakara and Nikolai Dante. As a British comics fan I've been ignoring 2000AD far too long.

>Awww yeah, we toothy now!
Here's a blast from the past: Rebellion is remastering Rogue Trooper.
Rogue Trooper is a 2006 third-person shooter based on the 2000 AD comic strip of the same name. It never set the world on fire back on PS2, Xbox and PC, but achieved a cult status. Dan Whitehead penned a Rogue Trooper retrospective for Eurogamer back in 2012, calling it "a solid, unpretentious action game with thoughtfully executed features, all in faithful service of a beloved character".
The remastered version is called Rogue Trooper Redux, which is set for release on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. It's being developed by UK studio TickTock Games, making it the first 2000 AD game developed outside of Rebellion. The teaser video is below.

2000 AD rights holder Rebellion recently announced plans to open up its intellectual property, which includes Judge Dredd and Sláine - to other developers.

That is one really good game, though I'm very curious as to how deep the remastering goes. Awesome music, too:

Can't wait to see what happens with the open policy thing either. I'm sure very few studios outside of the UK would be chomping at the bit to make a Nemesis or Shakara game, but it's better than waiting for Rebellion to put out something beyond mobile fare and Sniper Elite.

Oh shit. I forgot Max Normal died. I wondered why I hadn't seen him for a while since he's pretty prevalent in the early issues.
>>27990
Nah baby, Max Normal is too cool to be put on ice! He actually showed up quite recently in a Ben Willsher-drawn strip for the Megazine.
>>27990
que? Max is still around dude, had a Christmas special story to himself only two years back
>>28060
its real good too read this in such high quality for once

Agreed

Man, I was honestly a bit shocked when I found out how old Burns is. I always assumed he was something like Jimmy Broxton, a new-ish artist who drew in a classic style.
Then it turned out the guy worked on TV21.
>>28438
man, so far the book has felt like a dull mish mass of "2000ad's decent but hardly best", but this is actually really good

I don't know if you got the memo, but Mega City One is a dystopia.

Max Normal didn't die. He was phased out as a regular along with Walter and Maria after the Apocalypse War but given a more dignified out (basically called Dredd out after Dredd willingly allowed him to nearly be killed).
>>28084
Not quite the ending the movie Hardware had.
>>28084
So the robot killed the girlfriend, scalped her, then waited for the boyfriend to come home and kill him?
/ck/ here, I enjoyed that. I need to read more 2000AD stuff. I've got the complete D.R. & Quinch and it's amazing, but other than that I've just read Judge Dredd stuff. Strontium Dog seems good.
>>28300
You're too good for that City, Sensitive. There's no poetry there.
>>31828
Yep. It's a weird robot which is programmed to try to frighten its victims to death.
This story was the basis for the movie Hardware. 2000AD took them to court for copyright and in the end only wanted a "Based on the story 'Shok Trooper' from 2000AD." credit.
>>31945
Strontium Dog is indeed really cool. It's a fair bit more character driven than Dredd and the wider setting allows for crazy aliens and weirdo spaceships a lot more too. Plus, like 80% of it is drawn by Ezquerra, so it's fantastic.

I've made better quality compilations of the stories from Starlord. The ones in the digital TPB are b&w and lower quality than the 2000AD portions.
I'll put them on my MF account and post a link here.

GOTTA... SCOWL... HARDER!
I've been reading Dredd from the beginning for the last couple of months and I've just finished Apocalypse War. I already knew what happens because I read spoilers by Judge Anon and others but it still hit me during the read - how must this have looked to the kids/grownups who were reading it as it was coming out... I mean this is carnage on such a huge level, it's completely the opposite of what these kinds of long-running comics usually do.

here it is, Strontium Dog stories from Starlord #1-22 + Summer Special
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/5hxyb3cwwiysf
the folder contains the digital tpbs as well
in my opinion, the compilations look better (at least for the starlord parts, 2000ad's digitals for b&w parts from the progs are great)
>>33125
It just struck me that if there's a separate version of the gribblies behind the Dark Judges for the "main" Dredd-verse they may just be chilling, watching this world destroy itself.
>>33208
Thanks fot this. Downloading it now.
>>33125
Oh hell yeah. And not just East-Meg One -- an entire PLANET gets cracked open halfway through, literally shattered by nukes. There's a story that lives up to its name.
>>33208
Thanks a lot, man!
>>33125
Oh, and Ezquerra's art was fucking nuts. Ugly, grimy, gritty, perfect. I know that looking at it "objectively" it's nothing special and probably terrible but it IS great and fuck anyone who doesn't think so.
>>33728
Ezquerra's art kicks all kinds of ass. Crisp as fuck, perfectly clear at all times, doing widescreen comics shit twenty years before that was a thing, chock-full of personality for all characters, and yeah, grimy and gritty all around. Just perfect in every which way.
That Lawmaster vs Rad-Sweeper sequence and the bits with the Strato-V in the rain are a few of my personal favorite bits.
