I liked it because it's overall simple to follow without being too in your face, just like the song

>HURR ANON THE LYRICS ARE LITERALLY MUH BLACK STRUGGLE

yes, I fucking know that. The delivery and lyrics present it as less of blacks being the victim of past racism and crimes and more of damage black culture is doing to itself.

It's a satire of other black artists and celebs claiming that the black struggle is entirely whitey's fault

The video satires that perfectly by presenting old racial stereotypes and insults to blacks that are no longer relevant to black identity, basically spoofing other tryhard artists for constantly blaming racism from 100 years ago affecting America now

HAVING SAID THAT

Compare that to this piece of tryhard shit Moby put out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VASywEuqFd8

>wow...that's...so deep....really makes ya think huh?

Paper thin messages about consumerism, really lazy obvious flash-animation that was rushed out to catch the Pokemon Go hype

This video was put out just for the sake of causing controversy and trying to make a statement about society that everyone already fucking addresses.
Jay at least tried to do the opposite in my opinion

I agree with you, though I think it's also a jab at black celebrity culture that tries to separate itself from black people and also a jab at black celebrity culture that is all about gathering massive amounts of wealth quickly rather than being sensible about it, which can be seen as a criticism of a many current black mainstream artists.

Pretty damn good actually. I'm not a huge fan of the guy's music but this was a decent homage to that animation style - Little things like the style of the painted backgrounds and the harsh-edged lighting effects also we're gonna need some porn of that dancer.

Thank god someone else agrees it was shit - Steve Cutts (lead animator) is overrated as fuck, a terrible animator with the most surface-level messages achievable with animation.

John K would hate it, but that's obvious.
I'm not a big fan of the rubber hose look combined with such stiff animation. It's so phony.
>>
>>94515895
I like the animation in both videos, that said, Moby's is weaker because the music doesn't compliment the animation. It's trying to be Modern Times set in the 21st Century, but you don't need Moby's terrible music to tell us what's going on in the cartoon because it already shows it's message.

I dislike the message of Jay's song. The message of black struggles are undermined by being spoken from the mouth of a wealthy black man. Plus, Blacks have only themselves to blame for hating white, an attitude that's detrimental to their goals of opening their own businesses and interacting with white folks on a daily basis for it to be successful.
>>
>>94516682
You're missing the point.
He's giving black people advice on how negate their struggles because he IS a wealthy black man with experience.

Even though Jay-Z is a rapper, he's also the kind of wealthy black man that parents don't want their children to emulate or look up to as a role model.
>>
>>94516810
Is it? I feel like these days John just sets out to hate everything and then manufactures reasons because hating everything new is what he does, that's what's expected of him and he can't really escape it now. If he actually said he liked something his fans who've learned how to nitpick from him would probably be up in arms asking him how he could possibly like it.

Shoot me some suggestions that aren't already there. I'm trying to go just one per artist, so it's not flooded by stuff like Gorillaz.
>>
Pretty good but while the message is an interesting one on hindsight I feel like a lot of his advice doesn't really function to the majority of the people this advice is most needed towards.

Blacks have a history of poor economic decisions, more so then most minorities, but most of them can't exactly afford 1 million dollar paintings or apartment buildings to begin with. The songs seems to be more towards advice to black people who have not only risen out of these poor communities but have a build up a substantial amount of wealth to go with it, but if all it takes to solve this problem is for rich black people give their money to poor black communities this problem would've been solved a while back by now.

How many people on /co/ are even animators? I know we've got some, but damn, there are other sides than just the imagery. Since /co/ is apparently only to discuss the animation aspect of a cartoon, we'll have to move discussing the other aspects to the appropriate boards. Should we go over to /lit/ to discuss the writing aspect? Hey, the video above is a music video after all, maybe the all discussion pertaining to the music should be moved to /mu/.

Adding to this: I like the message that they could easily fix themselves if they do what other minorities who were oppressed just as hard did. And it's not limited to just one class or group of people doing it, it's something everyone could do.
Even if you're OJ (Okay).

I'm a jew and had literally no problem with it, despite also being a poorfag and hating the stereotype, because it is actually asserting that we're really the same and that cultural practices are what separate us. Blacks are just jews who haven't been told since birth to buy whatever land they can and get that fucking doctor job, and both of us are WASPs without centuries of cultural access to power, meaning we react to and wield what we have differently.
We'd all be equal if we could buy a building in DUMBO.

>oppressed just as hard

>>94516682
>The message of black struggles are undermined by being spoken from the mouth of a wealthy black man

One of the song's points was that black people are still black, no matter what financial level they're on. So, do what other minorities do and stop caring so much about whiteness so you can focus on helping your own people.
>>
The false economic mobility theory propagated by rap culture is a major factor of what's keeping black people down. Dealing drugs is like working for McDonald's - the guy pushing crack on the street is no different than a fry cook with respect to their organizational structure, and has about an equal chance of becoming a boss. The excessive materialism too is just another trap, rappers flex with their money, so another ignorant youth spends his entire salary flexing at the club or buying Yeezys. Fiscal education on a massive scale is required for the black community (not to single them out, of course, white people have their own issues like credit card culture and the whole over-mortgaging leading to the subprime crisis).

TL;DR Money management should be taught in high school.
>>
>>94512749

>>
>>94523185

He's got probably twice the space in a nice part of California for what he got from selling an apartment in crowded Brooklyn.

>>
>>94523082
>high school
No, bad financial habits might have already set in by then, better start in middle school.
>>
>>94512749
Unfortunately JayZ has a point with it. Remember when OJ was the one of the nicest guys in Hollywood during the 70s and 80s. And how quickly that changed during the trial.
>>
>>94523315
Elementary. Not the big, crazy shit like what Jaybo's singing about, but just simple, basic stuff to give kids an appreciation to money in their everyday lives.
>>
>>94523058
>Then why haven't the Natives gotten their shit together?
I think there are a lot more factors in play there that basically fucked over the Native Americans in the long run. At least some of them have casinos.
>>
>>94513682

Do you even rap and hip hop, nigga?
>>
>>94523460
I remember being so fucking proud of my piggy bank as a little kid.
>>
>>94523058
>Then why haven't the Natives gotten their shit together?

The Creek reservation about an hour and a half from where I live has more or less bought out the surrounding area and town through casino profits. Most of the real shitball reservations are located in areas too sparsely populated or far away from population centers to run a casino, exploit differences in state and reservation laws, or have effective tourist attractions.
>>
>>94515895
Moby should stay away from social commentary.
I like him when he's not being preachy.
>>
>>94523570
Me and my siblings had a ton of different piggy banks when we were kids, we almost got new piggy banks more often than we got money to stick in them. A perfect example of how my parents really didn't have a money-sense. Thankfully the only bad habit that stuck with me is buying shit I actually don't need just because it's on sale.
>>
>>94523058
>Then why haven't the Natives gotten their shit together?

It's a complex situation, but we made it pretty hard for them to have the same opportunities and spend a lot of effort and time trying to destroy their culture, which was fundamentally nomadic in a lot of cases, by forcing them to live on reservations. And these days it's hard due to economic reasons, where opportunities are harsh, cash is sparse unless you happen to have a Casino (which has its own social and economic problems) and you're basically forced to leave your entire community behind to go live in cities if you want better opportunities.

And we still to this day keep oppressing them with policies, just look at how we force oil pipelines go through their lands and risk their drinking water because we didn't want the pipeline to go through white neighborhoods where it posed exactly the similar risks.
