Children think girls are icky
>>
>>94480382
Because relationships are boring, especially steady ones, despite what your shoujo manga depicts

>>94481448
And when they grow up they'll learn that girls aren't icky, just really fucking insane.

This much faggotry in one thread. /Co/mblr needs to leave.
>>
>>94480382
Because females are boring.

>>94480490
Lesbians aren't real. "Lesbian" couples don't have sex and beat the shit out of each other constantly. That's because women are vile creatures that are incapable of love, hate all other females, and view their romantic/sexual partners as objects to be used as a means to an end, not as a person.

The only good relationships that are interesting are gay male relationships.
>>
>>94480382
I think writers often overestimate how sentimental their audiences are to the same bland, boring love stories that they've already seen done to death a million times. Maybe the creators tend to project some personal/nostalgic qualities into those stories and they themselves get really attached to, but that almost never really resonates with the audience. So at the end of the day it's just annoying episode-filler that detracts from the show's main appeal.

Not to mention, you generally have to have a pretty good idea what love actually is before you can really enjoy a well-written OTP. Literal children (usually the main demographic), and hopeless +20 virgins (the real main demographic), will never truly understand. At best- the latter would only be able to conflate real relationships to their pitiful sexual fantasies where their "partner" is nothing more than a wish-fulfillment yes man mind puppet with no agency of their own.

They are usually secondary plots at best within the broader story they're set in. They aren't given much development.
They tend to rely on cliches, which they often have trouble evolving past because of the aforementioned lack of development.
Lots of /co/ media is aimed at children, this creates obstacles to depicting some elements of a romantic relationship (and no I don't just mean fucking).

People thinking being contrarian is a race or competition, people from other boards (/pol/ or not it doesn't matter) pushing their ways onto /co/ as if all boards are supposed to act the same, people being too caught up in being "anti-tumblr/reddit" instead of just being plain "anti-stupid", shit like >>94482831 which goes back to people trying too hard to be contrarian by getting mad or dismissing anything with lesbians/gays in it.
>>
>>94480382
Most /co/ stories are action-oriented. This results in relationships being pushed into the background. Some writers feel like they NEED to include a romance because it's part of the superhero/adventure/action story formula to have hot babe waiting on the side while the hero does his thing but most writers don't take the time to develop the relationship or make it unique because that's not the point of the story. So what we end up with is cookie-cutter side relationships the writer took two seconds to come up with.

Even in stories where the relationship is more central (Scott Pilgrim), it's more of an excuse to set up the action.

There's also the fact that romance-focused stories are often slice-of-life (e.g. old romance comics) which is its own kind of boring when you're used to sci-fi and fantasy and larger than life battles.

not yuri but I find Starco so damn boring, like from episode one I felt like it was just a countdown for them to end up together in the good ol "Marry your BF" way, Jackie was going to be a plot device.

When Marco and Jackie ended up together I cheered because it seemed I was wrong, but the last few episodes seems to be getting back on track, sadly for me.

There's bits of insight in what you say, but you seem to be consuming shit and thinking the people who make that shit have a clue about why it's shit.

Remember, most creators are also permavirgins, with many of them having no clue how real human interactions work.
>>
>>94480382
>relationships
Most cartoons have the sidequest for the character to get their love interest.
And almost all of them get it at the climax.
So you don't have a relationship at all, the more interesting parts of it are dimmed out (because they have no idea how to write them).
Meanwhile the few that are actually elaborated on are so repetitive and unrealistic at that, like they stop being human beings when they are in proximity to each other, the inability to be causal with each other.
And last but not least, it is everywhere. Fucking everywhere, no matter if you watch comedy, science fiction, fantasy, action, adventure. They always have romance in them. It is so omnipresent, I wonder why they didn't make a religion out of it.

In short: Romance is oversaturated and always bland as fuck.
>>
>>94480382
If it's a comic than its most likely being written by a shit writer and the canon will change in 5 issues so there's no wright to any decisions.

With cartoons, the episodic nature makes that shit not matter, or you run into the shit writers again.

Nothing big of course but changing someone's girlfriend is fine. Its why everyone in capeshit has 30+ girlfriends.

>>94480382
They won't do /a/ style DEGENERATE HANDHOLDING twee romances and they're too skittish to do /tv/ style WE FUCKED A BUNCH BUT NO ANAL SO IS IT REALLY LOVE slut romance so we're left with bland, church approved "we awkwardly flirted a bit and then maybe fucked off screen" style "romance."
