In interviews the creators stated that she had black skin but was said to have very typical european facial features (nose, lips) and with the asian eyefold. She was an attempt to make a post-racial character in the 1970s.

Race as a topic has swung full-circle, the civil rights movement was once about "not seeing race" but in today's environment you *must* acknowledge race. I'm not sure this was a change in the positive direction.

Now, that design idea was never going to work out well. With the way they're constantly harping on "fan demand" and then putting Charles Soule onto the book, I am 100% sure this is a "set up to fail" situation like Renew Your Vows so Marvel can "prove" critics wrong. In Renew Your Vows, it was giving people Peter and MJ as a couple but throwing it onto an alternate Earth so people would know it's not important and thus it wouldn't sell thus proving that the OMD people were all bark.

With this, it's putting a sub-par writer most known for writing the Inhumans (characters the X-Men fans hate), defending the actions of the Inhumans with a peanut allergy analogy and then writing one of the absolute worst X-Men stories ever knowing fans will hate it.
