So the issue with big voice actors isn't that they don't have range, it's that the voice directors are often just telling them to do "that one voice we liked" over and over again.

It's also partly why "Celebrity Voice Actors" are often just doing their own voice. They didn't hire them to act, they hired their familiar voice.

Something to do with the way the VA union works. I can't remember the specifics but you either need to hire VAs from specific tiers (ie, you need to hire at least one of the Union's primary talents to get to hire X number of their extras) or the way they're priced you just might as well.

Worked in QA on many games where I've questioned voice actor choice for roles and had it explained to me in a way I can't quite remember about 5 years ago. Unions are weird.

Range isn't what makes an actor(vocal or otherwise) good. It's an asset, but that's not why they're hired. If they can portray the character well and they can get a good take quickly, they're doing their job.
