I think that people only see Rose as fat because the first time we saw her she was pregnant, and certain parts of the fandom like to draw her as such. Plus there's the fact Steven has no formal education and is emotionally immature for being a 14 year old. This is due to Steven hanging around the gems all the time and lacking human contact until recently. Steven's personality also suggests that Greg probably babied/spoiled Steven.

People say that Steven doesn't need a basic education because he needs to focus on his gem training. But that suggests that Steven would be fighting for his entire life with no end to conflict, and that just isn't so. What's Steven going to do once there's no more gems to bubble? Corruption is solved? Homeworld dealt with?
Steven is worse off than a veteran because he would have 0 understanding of how to live post-conflict.
0 understanding of how to live as a human in a human world.

Greg is a good person, probably the best of the cast. But he's not a good dad.
