New GOTG 2 Trailer.
This honestly. I really don't understand why all of these people that used to read Marvel growing up can't wrap their head around it. Their version of Marvel is dead. It's Disney's Marvel now.
The movie comes out in like 2 months. They have to start advertising Kurt Russel's involvement. Plus it's not even a spoiler since it's not a massive reveal that came out of left field like Doomsday. It was reported that he would be his dad for over a year
Well, yeah, I assumed that much since the first trailer. I mean, we haven't seen EGO as in the giant face on a planet yet.
Thing is, the film has to give SOME semblance of a plot in a trailer.
The big problem with the Doomsday reveal is that it reveals how the Batman vs Superman fight ends. They team up. It shows you a time stamp where the film is heading.
With GOTG 2, it's very vague what's endgame stuff. We know the alien fight is at the start, but a lot of it is jumbled after that.
The only thing that would make this better is if it was done in the same medium as this
rocket is gonna have a bigger role in the movie it seems and that is g r e a t
While not a huge problem, I can see people getting a bit bothered because they don't know what the film is about.
I don't care personally, because I follow everything that comes out, while not watching it because "it's Marvel".
Honestly, I think it's just a strategy to appeal to fans. Like sure someone who's only seen the movie might get excited about Peter's dad... but must people who really enjoy the comics would lose their shit at that reveal and want to see it more, since they know the potential of that character.
I kinda knew, but I doubt most people knew. It would have been cool for others to be surprised.
Ego revealing himself as Peter's dad in the trailer gives it a plot? As if we didn't already assume that we'd find out at some point in the movie anyways.
I feel bad for the Darkhawkfags who got briefly hopeful after reading the rumor that he was going to be revealed in the trailer.
>will be a standalone movie
I'm worried about this.
>Ego revealing himself as Peter's dad in the trailer gives it a plot?
It's the most solid clue of what the story of GOTG 2 is. Seriously look at the trailer stuff and try to tell me what it's about. Starlord's dad at least clues people in on something important.
current songs from trailers:
Jay & The Americans - Come A Little Bit Closer (some closed-door preview thing from sdcc)
Blue Swede - Hooked on a Feeling (meme song for reveal)
Fleetwood Mac - The Chain (basically the new meme song (but less meme-y))
Sweet - Fox on the Run
David Bowie - Suffragette City
not all of these will make it in, but The Chain will probably definitely make it in since its been in two trailers. Come A Little Bit Closer will probably get swapped for another song in the film, and Suffragette City probably won't make it in. Hooked on a Feeling won't, I guarantee it.
From what I'm aware it's a really early film plot point. Not something that really counts as a spoiler.
>Thing is, the film has to give SOME semblance of a plot in a trailer.
I disagree with this, though. A film isn't just it's story; you can easily sell a film on nothing more than suggestion of tone and atmosphere. In fact, those kinds of trailers are my favourites. The first Guardians of the Galaxy trailer was one of those and it was a massive success; rather than selling on the specific plot of the film (around Ronan and the Infinity Gem and Quills search for family), they just showcased the humour and oddness.
True, but that doesn't make the trailer reveal okay. Kinda makes it worse imo. Only way you can add plot to the trailer is to throw in the answer to a huge mystery from the first movie, which people discussed and argue for 2 years?
Oh shit I actually remember reading that somewhere but completely blanked on it seeing the human Kurt Russell there.
Damn, I almost unspoilered myself
is marvel finally learning to make movie posters that aren't utter garbage?
they are trying to show as much as possible without showing much of the plot, basically
first guardians trailers were kinda like that, but the sell for this one is more batshit space action than a regular marvel movie so it makes sense to do the switch
>Star Wars but ridiculous
I also felt the Mass Effect influence in this trailer. The transforming guns and Drax's weird biotic forecfield thing in particular.
And of course the Farscape comparisons are well documented.
it does alot of "OOOOO pretty lights" and "OOOOO minion tree guy" in it, but i dont know, the Golden ALien who looks down on imprefections of jealosy and such, and the imperfect heroes, did get me daydreaming about stuff.
Usually a good sign?
also i wonder what they're gonna cut from these trailers
we never got half-nude gamora in the first movie that was in every fucking trailer and i'm still salty about that
>Announce Star Wars Episode VIII trailer
>It's 5 seconds long
>It's a shot of Luke opening his mouth like he's about to speak before cutting to the title card
>1 billion views within a week
1st GOTG's poster was one of the decent posters from Phase 2.
If Ego doesn't do the face thing in the last act I'll be fucking furious.
I liked this one
I know I'm gonna get jumped on here but they're trying way too fucking hard with Baby Groot.
We get it, he's cute and you like selling toys. Now please don't ram it down our throats for the entire movie.
For all its worth, Marvel has disclosed the basic plot.
>Three months after saving Zandar, The Guardians of the Galaxy are recruited to protect the Sovereign People, an ancient race of genetically engineered aliens, from an extradimensional monster. In exchange they're given a captive Nebula (Karen Gillian) so she can answer for her crimes.
>Rocket (Bradley Cooper) feels ripped off and steals valuable power batteries before leaving, offending Queen Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), who hires the Ravagers to go after the Guardians. When Yondu (Michael Rooker) refuses, he's overthrown by Taserface (Chris Sullivan). They captured Rocket and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) and Nebula joins them to hunt down the remaining Guardians.
>While fleeing, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax (Dave Bautista) come across Star-Lord's long-lost father, intergalactic adventurer Ego (Kurt Russell), and his naive private attendant Mantis (Pom Klementieff), whom he has raised since she was a child. Ego had been searching for Star-Lord for years and Star-Lord becomes divided between sticking with his crew or staying with his father, particularly after Ego reveals his extremist approach to protecting the galaxy.
>The theme of the movie is "family": Star-Lord's relationship with his biological father Ego and his surrogate father Yondu; Gamora and Nebula's strained relationship as sisters; Drax becomes a surrogate father to Mantis; Rocket and Baby Groot's brotherly bond: Star-Lord and Gamora's blossoming romance, etc.
>Movie is self-contained and features no direct references to the Avengers and the Infinity Stones. Thanos is only referenced in the context of Gamora and Nebula's relationship. However, there might be a subtle hint to their role in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.
>that weird kickback effect at 1:26
That bothers me more than it should.
It's nothing major, but it looks so fucking weird.
Even looks like Kurt Russel.
His design doesn't fit with the rest of the film. He looks like a cartoon.
Wow, phase 2 posters were really fucking terrible.
Glad phase 3 posters look much better.
>Thing is, the film has to give SOME semblance of a plot in a trailer.
If you want spoilers, just watch the Japanese trailer. It is tradition for the Japanese that their trailers spoil the whole plot, that's what they wanted over there.
> Antagonists are now protagonists
Is there a better trope?
It honestly helps make up for Ronan being offed. Like given the plot of this movie it makes more sense for Nebula and Yondu to still be around, so I'm glad they've found a good role for them.
Hes running this shit now
How on the money am I?
-Taserface is the only actual villain, Ayesha and Ego are both morally grey
-Mantis was kidnapped and is Ego's kid too
-Yondu dies ;_;
-Gamora/Star-lord is resolved with them deciding to just be friends with Nebula/Star-lord tease
-Groot evolves back to normal at the end
About as many as try to sell themselves on their plots.
I don't think that a film having a basic plot is necessarily a bad thing, anyway. My favourite director is David Lynch; his plots are usually nonsensical and trying to follow them can be a wasted endeavour. But he lathers his films in so much atmosphere that each scene becomes like an art piece.
If I'm being honest, I think that the obsession with plot above all drags film down about. Not that a strong plot can't be the basis of a good film, of course, but as a medium there's so much more it can be used for that isn't just conveying a complex story.
>Star-Lord's relationship with his biological father Ego and his surrogate father Yondu
This has me very excited. It could redeem what I found to be a rather lacking Star-Lord arc in the first GOTG
That was the point of the Guardians. They were supposed to stops universe destroying events like Annihilation and Annihilation: Conquest.
Speaking of Annihilation: Conquest, they should do that for a Guardians Vol 3.
>That was the point of the Guardians
I'm well aware of this anon, I was here. One of our frequent complaints nonetheless was that the book lacked a story of its own beyond the vague threat of the Cancerverse. After a lot of assumptions about what the purpose of these movies was to be it's interesting that they've in fact managed to carve out their own identity. It makes for a nice contrast with the comics.
Women acting all butthurt about it during the trailers didnt help. Salon and a few other slant sites bitched about the trailer for this very reason. The evils of the "male gaze" upon them again
The visuals improved a lot. The imagery in the scene with, which I'm assuming it's ego's surface, was splendid. It really is a nice change of pace after the dull look of Civil War.
The jokes shown in the trailers have been pretty hit or miss admittedly, though nothing to really worry about.
Mantis is top MCU waifu. I'm hype as fuck for this film.
Tell me about Mantis. What's so great about her?
The thing is, Ego being the dad of Star-Lord would've leaked anyway, and they have been promoting Kurt Russell as the one who's playing Pete's father for a while now, so the comic book smarks and casual fans with access to internet already know about this. This might surprise little children though, but they are in for the colorful fights and talking Raccoons.
Looks like a poster for some dance movie.
Dr. Strange had some nice posters.
>The visuals improved a lot. The imagery in the scene with, which I'm assuming it's ego's surface, was splendid. It really is a nice change of pace after the dull look of Civil War.
Gunn is a director with real appreciation for how things look in the cinema, I think.
The Russos are TV directors. They can get good performances out of actors but aren't that talented with the visual element of their films.
I hate Ronan died back in the first film. I loved his anti-hero phase during Annihilation onwards. His banter with Kl'rt was also top tier. I really enjoy his punisher/judge character. I could easily see him played as an autistic funny like Drax in some parts.
Gee, Drax, 3 girls?
No, Quicksilver will eventually come back as a corpse possessed by Chthon when we learn that Wanda's powers have been chaos magic all along.
James Gunn is producing on Infinity War most likely since the movies go to space and Gunn has the most experience depicting that area in the MCU. The Russos are directing the movie after also directing Civil War.
Well, the first Avengers looks garbage too despite being hyped for like what, 5 years?
'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac is a fucking masterpiece and it's so often forgotten about because all anyone cares about from Rumours is 'Dreams'/'Go Your Own Way'. So yeah, kudos to Gunn, he's just earnt himself a lot of goodwill in my book.
> Trailer looks pretty hype regardless.
>the worst thing of GotG is last DANCE OFF BRO xDxD scene
>now they are making the whole sequel in this style
What went wrong? Also the sad thing is - it will probably break 1 bil.
p.s. Lil Groot is disgusting.
>Drax becomes a surrogate father to Mantis;
Doesn't really make much sense if Mantis already has a surrogate father in Ego? I'd be more interested in seeing how she reflects on Peter, whether he'd be jealous or antagonistic towards her?
We live in a timeline where there's more positive excitement for a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel than for a Justice League movie. That's really one of those things I don't think anyone from just a few years ago would have anticipated.
I'm likely going to enjoy the fuck out of this opening night, and there's no amount of tearful bitching that can stop me.
Probably won't be as funny as Wonder Woman, but at least the humor in GotG2 will be intentional.
and remember 99% of the people who see this trail have no idea of what character Kurt is playing and even fewer are familiar with ego. the only ones who know are those that follow movie news and either already know ego or takes the time to research, and at that point you are choosing to spoiler yourself.
It's also going to make more money than Justice League. In the larger pop culture context I think WB/DC have really fucked up here.
People always say that DC is the iconic heroes and better known ones. Which maybe true for 21+ year olds. But my 12- nieces and nephews barely know who any DC heroes are, even Batman, while being obsessed with Marvel heroes..
HOLD ON, Peter has the elemental gun now?
I will see this movie in the theater in the first week or two of it being out with my wife. I will actually pay for it. If you knew me. You would know what an incredible fucking endorsement a statement like that is.
For the first movie she shaved all her hair off and made a wig out of her hair
For Vol. 2 I read that they found a way to do the make-up/prosthetics without making her shave her ENTIRE head, just part of it
>Michael Rooker in a "family" cape movie
>Iron Man and Cap movies are popular
>Superman and Batman movies are panned
>GotG movie hyped up
20 years ago, no one would believe this. We're in some kind of alternate reality
The Chain is used as the theme to Formula 1 racing on tv in the uk since the 70s. So it's very iconic here. I'd argue it even detracts from the trailer since the theme is so tied to the racing, it'd be as if it was the simpsons theme tune or something. It's no longer recognised as it's own song
>trench coat Star-Lord
Noice, we didn't get enough of that in the first one
Fuck all the ironic hatred and rivalries and shitposting.
I'm legit excited.
Ive never been to Reddit. In fact, I've been coming exclusively to 4chan for 7 years now (I know, still a newfag). But I persist in refusing to take anyone who passes this off as a legitimate criticism seriously.
It's not humor, it's comedic acting.
There's nothing humorous about the dialogue, it's the delivery that makes it what it is.
And to be honest, if your only criticism is "le reddit" etc, you are probably reddit as well
>Doesn't like a marvel movie
>MUST BE A DKEK!
Maybe he just didn't enjoy GotG.
By briefly taking Kurt Russell form in a flashback, Zeus style, instead of spending the entire movie (save for five minutes in the big finale) as a human.
Or, y'know, just use J'Son.
You don't even know how it's going to play out. And I'm glad they didn't use Jason or J'Son because they're pretty uninspired characters. Ego is the perfect combo of whacky and feels that these movies revolve around, and his true nature is likely a lynchpin of the plot that they don't want to overstate in marketing.
>Some of us really wish it wasn't.
That was just falseflag shitpost.
But to be honest, SS being the only real sucess on the DCEU was actually the worst kind of stuff that could have happened to the queershits that like a Snyder style movie.
Prepare yourself for movies that actualy have colour and fun in them on the DCEU, just because SS decided to copy Guardians of the Galaxy ;^D
HOW CAN SNYDER EVEN COMPETE??
JUSTICE LEAGUE IS FUCKING DEAD
>he thinks Ego being Petes dad was meant to be some big twist
Its more like if the end of the ESB trailer showed Yoda for the first time. Important to the plot but reveals nothing about it
>First film ends with Yondu talking about Peter's Dad and how he's an A-hole, then banging on about his Ayy Lmao blood maybe being why he didn't insta-die from the infinity stone
>WHA-! WE FIND OUT WHO HIS DAD IS IN THIS FILM?
I mean it's clearly a play on the whole "finding out who your real dad is in the second film" thing from Empire, and quite frankly I'm glad they aren't treating it as some big reveal as though they could play that card and get away with it.
Jesus christ I can't believe how deluded you fucks are that you think this absolute ass looks good.
I can see what they were going for but it just looks fucking awful and amateurish.
Like some shit a 13 year old with 6 months of photoshop practice would whip up as a fan poster.
Nah, that would be the BvS defense threads.
Most of the time people can and will say their opinion about Marvel and DC movies, but you gotta be retarded if you think you'll get plenty of people with that really easy bait.
Which isn't even worth a (you), famalamadingdong
>Can't even accept gratitude for his insightful comments
Why so damaged?
Just because people think a shit movie is shit doesn't mean it's not shit, anon.
Similarly, just because faggots you don't like think a good movie is good doesn't mean you're not a faggot for disliking it.
>mfw someone asked Mark Hamill what his reaction was when he found out Luke had no lines and he replies
"I was speechless"
Hamill is the best human.
I really makes you wonder how badly WB is fucking up.
Like, how is it this difficult for them to not make some shit movies? Not even amazing movies, just some good ones.
Frankly I blame them trying to make Snyder their Kevin Feige and butchering everything in post because they're afraid test audiences will giggle at Superman's briefs.
>Drax adopting Mantis as his daughterfu
That's too damn cute!
im surprised WB hasn't announced another attempt at making a Lobo movie after the success that Deadpool was.
Sadly it'd end up going 1 of 2 routes
>route 1 it'll end up getting shelved after WB demands a Lobo movie have a PG rating like all 3 or 4 previous attempts since the 90's
>route 2 they'll want to go the no humor deadly serious route like MoS and BvS are
Also the perfect actor to play Lobo was already hired to play Aquaman
>im surprised WB hasn't announced another attempt at making a Lobo movie after the success that Deadpool was.
Why would they try to re-make Lobo when they have Deadpool as a proven property? It's not like they could cross over these two as they are from separate companies.
Looks alright, but I can't really see a conflict.
Besides that, I'm concerned about the amount of screentime and attention Baby Groot seems to have. I liked Groot in the first one because even though he wad an appealing character, he never felt forced. Baby Groot does a little, but I'd have to see him in context.
Mantis a cute.
Yeah, the extra drums and the strings at the end are great, I hope whatever trailer house made that remix releases it soon.
I think I can just throw together some percussion on the original and get something similar, but that exact mix is pretty good.
It's a bit bothersome, all we really got was "they're back, with the same attitude!" and no real indication of what the plot will be. Anticipating it being generic as fuck, but maybe they've got some cards up their sleeve still
