Marco's going to spend the next couple of months with some part of his mind always on Star's confession and absence, further influenced by the Blood Moon. Plus, there's all the times where Marco has prioritised Star over Jackie, like at that very party earlier.

Thinking she won't be mad at Star however is flat out crazy. This is the kind of shit that would piss off any normal teenage girl. Dude, the entire season three has already been made. The execs at Disney have seen it, and the apparently liked it as much as they did season 3, and apparently Nefcy has "scripts" for all of season four ready to go.

The change in status quo allows for that possibility to happen now.
Marco is set for a new character arc focused on Star. His character conflicts at the start of the series, being too cautious and his crush on Jackie, have been resolved in the last few episodes. He's now significantly more confident than he was, and has been going steady with Jackie for a few episodes.
Consider the developments we've had in the second half of this season. We got "Running With Scissors" where Marco's actions have clear applicability to the question of how he's going to respond to Star being forced to leave, and we got "Collateral Damage" which was essentially a send-off episode for most of the minor school-based characters.
The status quo has shifted and a new narrative is starting, which usually doesn't go well for established characters and relationships that don't translate well into the show's new focus.
Nefcy is a complete madwoman and I have no idea how things are going to end up when we're less than halfway through the show's content, but some pretty good guesses can be made for the near future from what we have now.

If you want some more Star suffering, or Starffering, try this on for size:
