Good evening owls,
We were gonna read Madman tonight, just for Cranky, but I didn't find it in time
let's all quietly ignore that and she shows up in LA tomorrow
"Yeah, went through some shit in Gotham...not doing that again"
IANAL, so don't ask me about that aspect of this book
(I Am Not A Lawyer. Longtime internet abbreviation, but we can lol. Also: MOON ROCKS)
also, you might have a hard time with that
Really, dude? That's your argument for not executing this sick piece of shit? That's pretty fucking weak.
Doesn't matter if he has superpowers, he's a homicidal maniac. Put that fucker in the ground so he can't hurt anyone anymore.
here we go!
this first issue doesn't waste time
oh shiiiit how is Nate gonna suffer this time
I want America to be not cringey, but I'm not betting on it. There's gonna be Disappointed Discourse about that book.
The sad thing is that given Twitter, most people are going to keep it in their locked accounts instead of being honest about it
there's a lot of social pressure to be quiet when a progressive darling isn't actually a good book
if you recognize the staff, yes, it's Mark Shaw's
If you recognize the suit, you're a pretty big DC Cosmic nerd
What I love about this as an opening issue is what it chooses to show and what doesn't need to be laid out on the page to work
>yeah but do they show up or cameo anywhere after their book got canned? nobody ever pulls out Darkstars when they go for obscure cosmic cameos
2006 omega men
Among the equipment stolen by prosecutor Kate Spencer when she becomes the eighth Manhunter is an exo-mantle which formerly belonged to an unnamed Darkstar. As seen in Manhunter #32
That was a weird mini, but it gave me Lewd Doc
very 2000AD, yes?
I'm still mad about Zubbolts
poll: are double handguns ever not cool
Batman is a cock
>I'm still mad about Zubbolts
Why? Was it Zemo acting like an idiot? Erik and Man-Killer's history meaning nothing? The events of Standoff and the character actions therein being all but ignored? Or was it the continued Bucky stroking?
the answer is 'yes'
It's details like this that make Kate so human
Spoilers. Pretty lame dead
look at this chest paint
this Power Company shoutout will be relevant
Old Man Logan was the inspiration for the latest Wolverine movie, simply titled Logan--you can read our review here. The current ongoing comic series took Logan from his future time period into the present day Marvel Universe. Until now, Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino handled the writing and art. Marvel has revealed to us that Ed Brisson is taking over the writing, with Mike Deodato Jr. providing the art beginning in issue #25. We talked to Brisson to find out what he has planned and how the Maestro fits in.
I like the idea of characters with young children fighting crime. Even if the "oh no my secret identity now my helpless family is in real danger" storyline writes itself I like the dynamic of balancing one right thing to do with another right thing to do. Its normally balancing a personal life thing with an altruistic goal. But with a kid its balancing raising another human being which can be an altruistic goal in of itself, with fighting crime another altruistic goal.
And everything set up here will pay off, too
>Yawn. Wake me up when the real Wolverine comes back, and he better bring the real Cyclops with him.
Hey boy scout cyclops atleast in alternative universe
when is last FOOLKILLER?
Enter my favorite character in this entire run, fuck yeah
He did in Invincible Iron Man #12
Anon, don't even joke about that. You and I both know that wouldn't end well for anyone. There's no point in intentionally sowing conflict.
>If I tell my family that I'm a superhero, they'll be in danger.
I always hated that because they're already in danger. They live in a reality where super villains exist.
he's a notorious tracer, the LEGO model ships for space battles were a hoot
hey, so, what's the Slade Sex Count up to now?
that is one shift in culture I am 100% behind, I hate smelling like smoke
Also, we've seen present-day Joey, do we know quite what happened to Grant?
I hope it's at least memorable and not just boring
That's always been extremely iffy. Even if we pretend the JSA wasn't a thing, which is lame in and of itself, there's been weird super shit going on since the dawn of time on Earth. The mere existence of multiple panteons of gods alone would make this stuff normal from the outset. And frankly, I ain't exactly sold on all physical evidence of the Amazons being lost before Diana showed up. Especially with Odyssey being a thing. If anything, superheroes should be kinda mundane.
DEATHSTROKE'S PLAN FAILED...EXACTLY AS HE HAD PLANNED
>If you recognize the suit, you're a pretty big DC Cosmic nerd
It's not really that on model for a Darkstar uniform though. No big center panel. No big white starburst. No
completely incompetent John Stewart.
They were flailing so hard with what to do with him then, and they still don't know
I think it is, but I can't promise all the threads will have working images. Anyway, you can join us tomorrow and worry about catching up later, the great thing about old comics is that it's very easy to just jump in a series with any ish.
how is Hal'n'Pals right now? I'm super-behind on everything
I didn't buy one human dude leading the GLC when they did it to Hal and I don't really buy it with John now either
especially since Ganthet i.e. the only non-retarded guardian and Sayd are back
>yeah but do they show up or cameo anywhere after their book got canned?
Not really, because they were wiped out by Grayden (Grayven?) (Darkseid's hip new 90s son) in Kyle Rayner's GL. Possibly as a mean to re-Wonder Donna Troy once John Byrne was gone.
It's the reason why John Stewart spent so much time in a wheelchair in the 90s.
it's okay, not as rancid as Venditti's GL was but nothing stellar either
Sandoval's art is pretty great though and Venditti does a surprisingly good Guy
also, Sinestro in cosmic leggings
NGL, I'm 100% here for it. I want to laugh at petty stupid things like comics.
I did very much enjoy that panel
Dude in the shirt: also relevant
Hawkeye's probably gonna run what, 8 issues and cancel/relaunch, like almost everything else right now
The human GLs need to fuck off for a while so the aliens can have some adventures. I want to see what folks like Freska and Rot Lop Fan are up to. Is Arisa doing anything cool? Not as long as the fucking monkeys are hogging all the panel space.
how is Occupy? I read the first issue and didn't really care, soo
I'm not sure if her Ex is a good guy or not. On one she is annoyingly absent in their kid's life to the point of being neglectful and leaving a powerful weapon laying around did nearly get the poor kid killed. So him being upset is justified there
But at the same time hes kinda a jerk.
There is so little fucking value in that entire Teen Titans run.
Kon hanging out with the DnA Legion was fun though.
I am legitimately in favour of DC taking the Young Justice kids and having them join whatever version of the Legion comes next. They are sadly kind of redundant in the present, since they've basically all been replaced with younger versions, and as Legionnaires they could possibly draw in some casuals who need a Batman tax (in the form of Tim)
Moral ambiguity is a rarity in comics but it's done very well here
Kate makes real, human mistakes and some actually difficult choices
I'd forgotten how much dismemberment happens in this run, but now that I think more about it....
pretty good, and improving. the issues with Nighthawk were a step up bc Walker has experience with the characters.
Gabriel Hernandez Walta is starting on art soon, pretty sure next issue
Tomasi's GLC was pretty good at that. 1-6 pages would be about the humans (Kyle and Guy) doing some stuff, and the rest would be about the other alien teams. They had some pretty good stories in there (like the Daxam arc)
I hope that's real, just for the reactions
The Legion's unique place in the DCU has always been a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, they get to do their own thing without having to conform with the other books. On the other, casuals never get drawn to them because they lack any of the ridiculously big names that usually draw that crowd in.
Borders on monkey's paw shit.
let's read one more, right?
are we digging it, anyone who hasn't read this already?
EAT IT GRANDPA
>all that butthurt
I mean, you know what I thought about the book, and this does nothing to change my mind one way or another (I knew it was going to be a shitshow), but fuck's sake people, stop acting like this is the armageddon of comics. We've had way worse rough patches before, this is just one more shitty book. Have these people never heard of Sturgeon's law?
they have not, I suspect
A lot is going to ride on the tone the art gives it, IMO
>My illegal weapon nearly killed my son!
>I MUST KILL TO MAKE MYSELF FEEL BETTER
So far, Kate is Not Smart.
Right in wanting Copperhead dead or in jail, sure. But not particularly smart.
BEST CHARACTER INCOMING
It's fucking perfect
Firestorm loves making people naked, this is true
>are we digging it, anyone who hasn't read this already?
I honestly don't know. I'm not used to a cape story that's so, for lack of a better word, gritty.
Kate herself is pretty obviously starting out in such a low place so she can rise up high, but it's leaving feeling a little, I dunno, glum?
Yeah, let's read more, see if Kate can stop being a fuck up for five minutes.
There's winning along with the getting beaten up
>Both Hawkeyes are starring in good books now. !!!
I've missed issue 3 and anything that may have come out since.
Enjoyed the first two well enough though, despite the series hinging on Killer Clint.
Dylan Battles: porno name/not porno name?
interest technology 100%
if that torrent had worked...
The idea that they were once so popular they kicked Superboy out of his own book (and in the Superman Movie years at that!) is so foreign to the post-Burton Bat-Era that it's nearly unimaginable.
Dylan's a perv, btw
BTW we're on Thursday AND Friday, because things shifted
dolphins: rapists of the sea
that's a burn
Here's the hell of it. When you go and read those stories, like we did, it's actually pretty obvious why they got so popular. Solid, dynamic characterization, compelling storylines, a fleshed out setting, and clever use of what would otherwise be silly powers. These elements made the Legion standout among the crowd, so it's really little wonder they took off like they did.
Sadly, they're unfairly seen as relics of the Silver Age these days, so casuals wouldn't give them a chance unless Batman guest starred, because they'll read anything with the bat logo on it.
we can live in hope
Hah! This was around the time that this really weird completely debased/pop version of "Kabbalah" was big in Hollywood, magic red strings and everything.
I regret missing out on all but Retroboot Legion with you lot.
I really, really wish DC weren't so heavily Batman reliant. Like, even Superman's practically a nobody these days.
I do not want a "Batman's Cunty Son and his Sidekicks the Legion of Superheroes" book, anon.
That level of Batwank might actually make me physically ill.
it's Identity Crisis time!
I'd rather they stay an mildly obscure laughing stock than induct Damien into their ranks. It's bad enough the Thunderbolts have their own Poochie, and you know damn well that little piece of shit would take over the book like the cancer he is. Fuck that.
thanks for reading, we're back...Thursday
I feel like tinkering is a legitimate superpower in so many comics. Like how the hell do so many nobodies without an extensive education have the ability to crap out super tech that puts military hardware to shame?
>I spent 8 years in college and 10 years of development to create this robot that can walk like a human!
>I made this robot by accident out of an RC car and and a TV as a kid with no formal education, it can shoot laserbeams strong enough to hurt superman and fly at mach 10 to evade bullets fired at short range.
Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.
I can see why you said I'd like Kate. She's kind of an asshole, but with good intentions, and she doesn't bullshit around with the no kill rule crap. I was kind of put off by the sheer amount of fucking up, but she's starting to turn it around. Also, she has a henchman now!
We'll see, but yeah, this is alright so far.
I'm running out of these, can you tell?
I think a Damian in the LOSH book could be kinda fun if they go with Johns' idea that Batman is all but forgotten in the future. I imagine that should be a serious blow to the kid's ego.
Well yes, it might be somewhat entertaining if they shat on the little brat a little, but DC wouldn't dare have their little ubermensch be outclassed by anyone.
We can think about the technical of how it could work all day, but we all know full well that the little shithead would be elected leader in a weak, with everyone sucking his cock the whole way, because he's a fan-ficcy abomination who ruins everything he's in by making it about him.
>This is the run that made us all hope Andreyko Batwoman would be awesome
How did he blow that so bad? Batwoman should have been a perfect fit for him but nope, we get some meandering bullshit and then vampire rape
I liked her paramedic gf. It was a bit on the nose but a good parallel for Mac.
If "America, we have to break up because you have really important things to do and other girls to bang" is the real reasoning given, well. That's in a lot of more masculine ego fantasy stuff and deservedly mocked there. Think of Wheel of Time.
Gillen def doesn't regret it IMO but this sounds like it might out-Gillen Gillen without any of the quality. The college thing doesn't seem like it's being done well. It seems like there's a lot of really blatant shipping/YAASS bait. I've seen a lot of IRL hispanic people get pissed off at the language.
The fun thing is we get to see for ourselves today.
Also, even if America is outright terrible the assholes who will troll over it can still be used to fuel outrage and $$$ in sales. Like Mockingbird, it might be a book you're a Bad Person if you think is bad.
Yeah way back in the day someone made a thread asking where everyone was from. It was like 2 in the morning and almost everyone responded with Texas. They had a meetup at Madness comics when they had a smaller location and I heard it was really awkward like most meetups attempted. Movie Theater Lad attempted another meetup in New York and had similar results. Meetups in general were basically abandoned after the whole redwood incident.
but Dick is fun and happy and shit. the whole idea with Damian is the contrast.
i actually have a lot of questions for johns about current losh history. did Superman still go and have adventures with them as Superboy?
I imagine Reborn will smooth things over a little as far as timeline things go. But considering Superbro and Superdad both did have adventures with them when last explained that will probably stick around.
This is what I mean about the cover thing. The covers have such a FEEL of the series that you can point to them as a real emblem of the whole thing, which I only really get from stuff like Preacher more than more modern series. Though Scarlet Witch currently is the same.
The look of the cover isn't directly representative of all the content, but it cuts to the heart of it.
Part of it is probably having one artist with a unique artstyle doing all the covers. A lot of Vertigo books did that, like Preacher and 100 Bullets, though just having similar cover layouts can have the same effect (like Transmet for example)
