Welcome back Anons! Yesterday, we read Colleen Wing's last major appearance in Marvel comics, at least until Synergy happens. Today, we go back to Thunderbolts, and finish up with Shadowland.
Wow, I got it JUST as it hit Noon.
Remember "The Advisory Board", Anons. They'll come up later on.
Hey look, it's Jessica Jones! And thank god, that's all we see of her for a while!
Don't you just hate it when your best friend poses in the trees to show you his crotch?
I like to think that Parker wrote these tie-ins JUST to make that bad joke.
No, "Lacy Kimbro" here has nothing to do with the blind guy from early in his career. Sadly, I can't remember his name, and all google gets me when I look up "Luke Cage" and "Blind Guy" I just get Daredevil or Shades.
Grant ed, he's not blind, just packing an eyepatch.
The Thunderbolts's second official Daughterfu, Anons.
And she's a cannibal too! I guess people just forget this scene.
Uh ph, now Crossbones is pissed.
Yeah, the terrigen didn't do Crossbones any favors.
For a second, I thought Crossbones tried to choke Ghost, because he was whining about the food.
It's not, just that guy from earlier talking shit.
I can only assume Juggernaught asking about going to Antarctica when he sees the Flamethrower is a reference to The Thing.
I don't know why he was asking about a volcano, though.
>"What, you're not coming with us?!"
Wisely, Parker decided that, since Luke has a mini he's in AND is a major player in Shadowland proper, this tie-in doesn't have him in it much.
>"So wait, these ninjas are technically ALREADY dead? So we can use as much force as it takes?"
>"You heard me right. I want them GONE."
Told you, Anons. It's not murder if it's ninjas, Luke says as much here.
>"What you call Paranoi, I call Heightened Awareness."
Ah Ghost, you loveable conspiracy nutter you.
Remember, Songbird's powers are SOUND-based, and they're using her as a light source.
Don't even bother trying to figure out how that works.
Got to give them credit, they hid SURPRISINGLY well.
So he went in with a Flamethrower, and now Crossbones has an assault rifle of some kind.
So, remember during Power Man, when someone made a joke about Hand Ninjas fusing?
3 hand ninjas gets a monster. SIX ninjas gets you a ninja strong enough to knock the wind out of the JUGGERNAUT!
The only power these hand ninja have, that others don't seem to have, outside of COMPETENCE is that "fusing" trick.
And Karla seems to like Man-Thing as much as everyone SHOULD.
Nobody seems to believe me when I say I'm TRYING to keep it this early.
I feel like I should be making a Team Fortress joke here.
Is Shadowporting a thing Hand ninjas frequently do?
For those of you who aren't aware of Melissa's "Screaming Mimi" powers, it was basically the Canary Cry.
>"That's right, you don't talk much so I forget you're a crazy racist."
>"Everyone is, I'm just honest about it."
Crossbones seems to basically just be /pol/ - the character.
>I've stayed in places that made solitary here look like five stars
Like the Crimson Dimension and all those other hell/pocket dimensions they keep shoving him into to get rid of him. Or that time Spider-Man buried him under a whole bunch of cement for weeks.
He was told my Iron Man and Cap, but the Avengers weren't technically involved, if that makes any sense.
You forget some Karla's biggest contributions are through her intelligence, but yeah, she's basically one of the Strongest Thunderbolts, with probably only three people being stronger, two of which she was on the same team as.
This has got to be the most succesful Ninja attack I have ever seen. They actually managed to take out several named characters!
If only Matt had kept these elite Hand assassins back at Shadowland.
Wait, what the fuck? Hand ninjas have dragons?!
Was it weeks? I forgot how long he was stuck down there.
If it was the old days, I'd just say they reached the Avengers receptionist, who didn't know, since this isn't an official Avengers operation.
But since the Avengers haven't had that level of operation in decades... your guess is as good as mine.
I guess Ghost Rider missed a few when he rampaged through the dungeons.
To be fair, the Zemo she knew was never a RACIST, he just had the Doom-esque "everyone is equally beneath me" attitude.
That's not quite "power creep", so much as people keep forgetting what her powers were. At this point, she's basically a Green Lantern.
Well shit, look who has Superpowers now!
I don't know about Faustus, but Zemo never struck me as a "racist".
That actually reminds me of the time someone tried attacking Busiek for being a Nazi supporter, using Thunderbolts as an example.
They were obsessed with "Lightning is a Nazi symbol" and "Zemo is a Nazi!".
>"Aw no... Officer Kimbro!"
So yeah, you know how they went down to save a particular person?
Yeah, fucking Crossbones got him.
This is why putting him on this team was a stupid idea. "He'll set an example to the others of what not to be" is terrible logic and doesn't compensate the fact that he's a racist psychopath.
And that's it for today's Parkerbolts. But, there was a two-parter from earlier on where Luke meets the Thunderbolts, that I feel like posting...
Does Klaw's constructs glow like a Green Lantern's? That's the point I'm getting at.
So yeah, the current line-up of this team was Songbird (who we've all met), Atlas (the giant, who we've seen once, but that was written by Bendis, so ignore that entirely), Speed Demon (the speedster by Atlas's left knee), Radioactive Man (green guy by Atlas's right foot, who has super-strength, and can absord/project radiation), Joystick (left of Radioactive Man, powers include superhuman strength/speed/agility, ect), and Photon, also known as Genis-Vell (left of Atlas's head, powers are vaguely defined at this point)
I say his powers are vaguely defined because, since he's basically the strongest Thunderbolt on the team by far, his role tends to be "float out of the way, 'access the wavelength', do comic shit, and win."
>"Hey Atlas, am I the only one you hit hard enough to put down for the count?"
As a Genis-fan, I have an irrational dislike for Atlas, partially for the start of New Thunderbolts.
Blizzard WAS in this team, but his suit was damaged and, since his powers were all in the suit, he's off until it gets fixed.
Mach-IV WAS the leader, until Melissa found out he was accepting money from Strucker, and basically kicked him out of his own team.
Speed Demon knows about the Prism because he was originally the fake Whizzer in Grandmaser's Squadron Sinister (it's how he got his powers), which also included a fake Dr. Spectrum with his own prism.
Believe it or not, the blonde woman here is Carol "Yaas Queen" Danvers. Seriously, that woman has been in a LOT of roles besides her superhero titles.
She was a head of security for a NASA base, she was an Air Force soldier, wrote for a newspaper, and in this bit, works for the government.
Yeah, that scene is why I'm posting this period. That and, like I said, big Genis fan.
Also, about time.
... Okay, this is a long and fairly complicated thing, but short version is she had powers after spinal damage, he didn't have powers, and then he got his powers BACK, putting her in a wheelchair.
Read FabNic Thunderbolts for the details.
>The were the Avengers
>Now they're something different. Something we don't understand
And I don't understand this. What exactly was "different" about the New Avengers other than the fact that Spider-Man and Wolverine were on the team?
This is a plot point that will pay off later in the New Thunderbolts series, but I have no intention of going that far. A LOT of this series builds up for later on, like >>90310097
It's especially dumb because the Avengers have changed their roster countless times and the government never reacted with "let's have another group of heroes fight them, that'll somehow help!"
It's been a week, unless you forgot to use the title.
If you assume it's just FabNic just getting annoyed at how un-Avengers Bendis's Avengers was, this makes complete sense.
Honestly, I think I'd be wary of a brickhouse with a taste for long pig if I was locked up with one.
I mean, she's Asgardian. Their strength level like starts at the 10 ton range. Pissing her off means maybe you end up lunch.
The last panel here, and the next page, is part of why I even remember this two-parter as a Luke Cage fan.
>how un-Avengers Bendis's Avengers was
See, I don't get that. Bendis' New Avengers had many flaws but being "un-Avengers" wasn't one of them. Like I said, the roster has changed countless times, I had no problem with the roster Bendis chose (other than his hypocrisy about saying he didn't want obscure characters like Ant-Man only to put several obscure characters that he likes), just with how Bendis wrote it.
If you're who I think you are, you know I come from a place of love, right?
>Means I would've gotten killed along with the rest of you...along with Hawkeye...
WTF does this even mean? She's blaming the Avengers for Hawkeye dying in the line of duty? This is stupid and sounds out of character.
Joystick's personality can be summed up with "adrenaline junkie".
Pre-Bendis, the team was a bit more formal. They had a charter, they're leader was "Chairman", had a government liason, and for the love of god, they kept files on their villains so nobody has to say "I have no idea who that is."
Avengers Disassembled was pretty fucking stupid in how it killed off Hawkeye. Apologies for the pic, but here's the further lampshade
>But we're doing it anyway. BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT TOLD US TO
Seriously, this is stupid. What exactly does the government want here? For the Thunderbolts to kill the Avengers? Fot the Bolts to beat up the Avengers and then hope they've learned a lesson?
And Songbird goes along with it because she blames them for Hawkeye's death?
No worries, we're nowhere near the image limit.
I really, really love it when writers put this kind of explicit dig at disliked events/writing into the book itself. It's so petty but so satisfying.
She's also bullshitting to a large extent, keep in mind. She doesn't want to do this.
For the few of you who don't know, Genis (and Phyla) are only test-tube children. They were both born LONG after Mar-Vell was dead.
>Like I said, it's a meta crack. Busiek didn't want Songbird to join the Avengers because it would have probably ended with her used as cannon fodder.
Sad thing is, even now, I can see that happening.
Also Spencer taking a dig at Bendis for having Tony blame Carol and Ulysses for Rhodey's death while completely forgetting that Thanos was the one actually responsible. Basically showing that Tony doesn't come out looking like a defender of civil rights but as a maniac control freak who is right for the wrong reasons.
Maybe. He was replaced at some point between the founding of the New Avengers and Civil War. Since this is during that time period, there's no telling.
Being able to predict them so easily is PROBABLY a bit too much, but I enjoy the jokes, so I'll allow it.
I can actually see Spencer fixing some of the damage done to Carol in Secret Empire. Much like Zemo it seems like he is putting her through the wringer for a reason. He did well using her history in the Oath, too.
Admittedly, I don't pay much attention to the Big Two these days, but isn't Marvel pushing Songbird and the T-Bolts pretty hard these days? I doubt they'd kill off one of their (allegedly) most prominent characters atm
As much as I wish he would, Ewing isn't writing the main Avengers title, Waid is. And could you believe Bendis, Hickman, or Waid wouldn't kill her off?
Especially since he was just suddenly evil again and the stories that featured him were crap and used him poorly. If he hadn't been reset, he'd have been a great candidate for the AIMvengers.
Has he even appeared in everything since that one scene where Kamala punched a guy called RADIOACTIVE MAN and was surprised that he was RADIOACTIVE?
Not Songbird in particular, but it seems like they're pushing the Thunderbolts.
Except the actual Thunderbolts book ended up being "The Winter Soldier: featuring these other guys".
Except, while Spencer's Carol is very much in favor for the Space Shield, the Carol in her own book is very much against it. There's only so much Carol can do if her own book is fighting against it.
>"While he's putting ice over all his bruises, Cap will be wishing he had ME on his team instead of you!"
I've read almost every Genis appearance, and this sudden jealousy of the Avengers seems out of nowhere.
I'm sure you can get drunk enough come St. Patrick's day.
>Radioactive Man draining Spider-Man's powers
Okay, THAT'S a new trick. I mean, it makes sense that he CAN do it, but I don't think he's done it before or since.
As a Genis fan, watching Sentry get humiliated like this amuses me.
Seriously, in a damn TOILET!
So during this entire fight, Luke was swimming back after Atlas chucked him into the middle of the ocean.
I think this is the best Jessica Drew has ever done in a fight.
JMS's Totem story originally ended with the "reveal" that it didn't matter.
I love that it took for the Thunderbolts to literally fly by her building for her to think "Huh, maybe she WASN'T doing this because of a dumb bet..."
>then Bendis came up with Disassembled and Busiek NOPE'D
Pretty much. Originally she was supposed to join the Avengers after AvT but they rewrote the ending when they heard of Disassembled. I would like to now what their plans for the Bolts were without Songbird.
So yeah, all of you wondering why the New Thunderbolts had to fight the New Avengers?
Yeah, Zemo's why. If you want to see where this goes, you'll have to read New Thunderbolts yourself.
Be sure to check the /co/ Catalogue later on today for the return of the Great X-Men Storytime. Tomorrow though, we'll be back to Parkerbolts, and we get an issue all about Ghost, and maybe more! See you Anons then.
At this point it is hard to guess. Rereading it, it really does seem like it is SBP, but it could be Cyborg. Cyborg has apparently been in Supergirl since Rebirth, and is seen on the covers for the crossover. At the same time, one of those covers has a REDACTED person looking over all of them
Didn't Ghost lose his eyes later on? I like this look of him. His eyeless face give him a personal take. He looks also creepy.
he has the laser eyes again as of his appearance in nubolts.
doesnt she turn sound into glowing pink light constructs using a generator Fixer made for her in the origional thunderbolts run?
Without her normal costume she is just plain old Screaming Mimi with sonic blasting powers.
she also seems to have mental abilities too. when she got fixed after shadowland arc of parkerbolts, thunderbolts made songbird seem pretty OP honestly.
that is the point of thunderbolts tho, that zemo was a nazi and the thunderbolts were secretly evil nazis, i mean the masters of evil is an old nazi team from way back in the day
