Are lightsabers supposed to canonically look like the ones in Rebels? I know the original art had them as actual sabers, but the movies had them as glowing sticks because of technical limitations at the time.

I think the only problem people have with Kylo is that he's not the classic badass Star Wars villain, but insecure and... more like an actual human. I mean contrast him with Darth Maul who looks cool but didn't have any personality or an own character arc. People still loved him, just for looking cool. Same with Boba Fett, Grievous etc...
Kylo is great because he's more realistic. You can sympathize with him and hate him at the same time. Also, his actor is fucking based.

That's entirely possible. She's definitely skilled in combat based on her staff work. Still linking with the Force as Rey did and gaining ability from it has always been part of Star Wars. You don't need training to link with the Force like that. You DO need training to do so consistently. Luke found that out in the comics. Just because he linked with the Force to take down the Death Star and sort of managed Boba Fett while blind didn't help him later when he was thrown into an arena.

Untrained, using the Force is something of a reflex action. It's not something you can rely on, or even consciously use, not with 100% certainty.

It also seemed like Rey had access to the Force even before her incident at Maz's castle. She seemed to have brief flashes or moments where she made a connection with others. Like when she was first washing off her scrap and she looked at that woman.

It's entirely possible Rey was training, preliminarily anyway, and already knows the Jedi aren't a myth. But she was dumped on Jakku and as kids can sometimes do (especially after traumatic events, like if she was witness to the massacre of Luke's order) she could have shut herself off from those memories. Blocked them off completely so she won't remember even as an adult.

Still that's only speculation. Obviously.
