My understanding of Reversefalls is that Mable is sadistic and enjoys random acts of cruelty and violence while Dipper is power hungry and ruthless. They managed to trick Bill and he's their servant/slave and they love to torture him for information about the supernatural world. I think Dipper has an unnatural attraction to his sister and she encourages that behavior while never crossing the line because of her sadistic nature and denying Dipper true satisfaction tends to bring out his cruel side on others, which gets her engines going. Gideon and Pacifica oppose them and if I had any say on the AU I'd also have them competing over Pacifica.

Dipper and Mabel are just slowly gaining power to fix the portal that has Stan and Ford trapped on the other side. In the AU, Stan never broke Ford's machine so he accompanied him to College and helped out with his work, like a Ben Grimm to Ford's Reed Richards. Ford did locate all the anomalies and contacted Bill, but because he had far more resources at his disposal due to his education, he did find out that Bill was evil and trapped him/tamed him. Bill was trapped and broken down into several pieces, each of which turn into a tiny less powerful version of Bill; And a large piece of Bill (but still incomplete) was discovered by mabel and dipper, which is who they control like a slave.

Something happened long ago when Ford was trying to figure out immortality and now Stan and Ford's life lines are linked so when one dies so does the other. Of course Stan eventually stopped loving the ego-maniacal emperor of the multiverse plan Ford has and tried to go against him, but that just led to his the both of their imprisonment outside of certain pockets of reality, including their home dimension

So Dipper and Mabel are trying to rebuild the portal to summon their uncles, Bill is trying to game their plans to release the imprisoned pieces of himself so he can rule, and Wendy and Gideon are just trying to stop everyone from taking over the world.
