Its a really clever song, and Tony Jay's performance is the best part. The part where he sings "God have mercy... on me." is the only part where I really believe Frollo genuinely fears for his soul and isn't just bluffing. The visuals for that part scene at the end of the song also include the statues of Notre Dame forming the shadows to call back to the very start and The Bells of Notre Dame, the last time Frollo claimed innocence despite his sins. The Kyrie Eleison (Lord have mercy) is in both songs as well.

Without counting is the same melody of "Heaven's Light", also about Esmeralda, but in a complete opposite way. The very first melody we hear in the movie are those songs melody, which makes it the overall theme for the rest of the movie. Is fitting since Esmeralda is the core of the movie. In the same way lot of songs have the KYRIE mass as background chorus.

I don't think it contends with some of the more known songs, but In the Dark of the Night was tight

This reminds me how much I dislike Cats Don't Dance's animation style. The expressive character animation itself is great, but it would be a lot better if they took it down a notch between beats. A constant problem with the movie is the characters making wide, sweeping gestures at strange times, like the animation director felt like they should do it at least once per scene regardless of context.
