It really was. It sadness me because DeMatteis obvious had more plans left (Casandra Craft, real Phil's redemption) but it's outstanding how well he handled it all and you don't feel like you get an unfinished story after you put it down. FE issues was alright too. And Fernando Blanco absolutely killed it, his style is great, his layouts worked wonderful with DeMatteis' words and he's one of the best in the business at drawing emotions on characters' faces, the ending to that hell issue, you really feel the Stranger's pain in those panels...

I just wish it would get the recognition it deserves, JMD really makes you care about the Stranger, he introduces/creates great characters and perfectly uses already existing characters to guest star and tie his series in with the rest of the universe without it geting bogged down. The Blight crossover is a bit annoying since the other three(especially Constantine and Pandora) are not as good, but the Phantom Stranger issues are great. And the art is amazing, super underrated. I say this a lot about Blanco, there are many artists out there right now that can draw pretty pictures, but very few are actual storytellers like him.

I really enjoyed that mini he did after, but the art didn't work so well, if Blanco was on it... Honestly, he even did a fine job with Pandora when he handled her. Would've been cool if that Trinity of Sin title sold well and after the first story arc you get three 2 issue arcs each focusing on a different member and then you have another 4-5 issue arc with all three. You could get a different artist for each of the three stories and give your main artist of the first arc a break to come back for the second arc with all three.

Goes back to what I said about him being a fantastic writer, he just gets characters and knows how to give them a good distinctive voice. I just wish he did more comics work, after than Phantom Stranger run and that Spectre run, I could really see him do a great Deadman run where he taps into all that potential of a lonely ghost searching for his place in the world.
