I keep wanting to get into comics proper, as opposed to just buying one-offs like Kingdom Come, but it seems so dense to get into.

Also, I have difficulty getting invested into the central cannon when I KNOW it will only ever end with the universe getting destroyed again. They never get a happy ending.

That's what really bugs me about the reboots. Not that they do the continuity over again, I get that. But that they explicitly destroy the old one. The original Golden Age supes wasn't just left alone to continue his life forever on, he got his world destroyed and his wife killed.

Why can't they just say "And that universe continued on in its adventures, while we close the book and turn to a new one"? Why does it have to be a bad end for literally everyone?
