Oh lord yes. It permeates the entire comic, Pasqualo uses humor to cope with and mask his depression. Shit is so good because Gob writes from experience, he doesn't just write a depressed character but how a depressed character sees themselves.

That silent glance from his father for example. He doesn't do anything when he notices Pasqualo came home early. He just goes back to watching TV. In Pasqualo's eyes, that's his fault for making himself so awful to be around. Nothing his dad does is because his dad is a piece of shit, it's because Pasqualo makes him that way. And the most soul crushing way that can be communicated is by his dad just being too tired to deal with his shit, he just silently ignores him.

This. I used to be extremely depressed about my life. How useless I was. How I never felt like I was useful enough, even when I was working to the point of breaking. I always wanted to help more, trying to convince myself that I was actually worth something and not just bringing everyone else down, being a worthless waste of space drain on the economy and my family's resources.

It's different now. At some point, I'm not sure when, but I found a sort of... contentment with my life. It's a lot easier for me to genuinely smile at even the smallest of things now, and to really enjoy a lot of stuff. I wouldn't say I'm happy, but I don't think I'm sad anymore, especially not towards myself.

It wasn't riding around on the boat that bothered me so much, but rather the layout of the islands and how the boat handled. I actually think Phantom Hourglass is superior in those regards -- being limited by the wind and having to change it every time was super annoying, so being able to draw a path was nice. I also feel that the cannon and treasure hunting worked far better, plus the ocean layout was just better, with more than one or two good islands to visit more than once.

Sailing was actually kind of comfy in a way, but once I was overexposed to it, the island layout and mechanics of sailing became glaring flaws to me.
