It really depends on the arc. I loved the original miniseries, but what came after was pretty bad. Then it had some good stuff. I haven't read Moore's

there were occasional storytimes, specifically the good runs and omitting the random gore porn ones

storytimers had to censor the naughtbits and they used images of horsecock to do it

basically anything garth ennis had a direct hand in is enjoyed, a few of the badlands, and there was a ton of talk around wish you were here when it was running

overall, it's a clever enough premise in that ennis point about how zombies have become this kid-friendly thing whereas there is no way you can castrate the crossed to make it appealing to the pg-13 crowd, which is what makes it stand out

It has the same effect as Blood C on me, in that I dislike it, but at the same time, it left a splinter in my mind that makes me sort of respect it. It's horrific gore porn, and shameless, but it does those two things so well and creatively, I have to nod and applaud it, despite it being hyperbolic shite.

Where as the flipside, something being vile but shit in my eyes would be Millar-verse or Bomb Queen.

I thought the webcomic was really good. It focused more on survival and group dynamics rqther than just gore and it was a much better approach I think. When the violence is somewhat downplayed, the comics get better because it feels more a nightmarish fever dream than gore porn. Anyone else feel the same?

my biggest hate is the same as The Walking Dead, where they've openly said they won't reveal what it is (though my guess is The Happening / planet lowering the population). Just strikes me as lazy

Open question, what's with the hate for Lapham's material? Is it just too bleak? Was it "too soon" after Ennis' run that it looked awful in comparison?

His material is actually some of my favorite. Family Values is probably my favorite Crossed story. Caceres is one of my favorite Avatar artists and his work on Psycopath is aaammmaaazing. Dave wrote an equally fucked up story.

It has more to do with the stories being incredibly weak and the character work being laughable, coupled with being emblematic of everything wrong with the series. I would say that David Hines is worse, but Hines at least wrote one good story arc.
Family Values is palatable I guess but nothing special.

Its such a shame because Lapham can be good and Stray Bullets is one of the best comics out right now but his work on Crossed is so horrid

Crossed +100 is bretty good and much less edgy. It trades the gore for more tension. But goddamn their lexicon is so annoying to read even though it's logical and well conceived.
That said, it may seem counter intuitive but +100 is even better if you have read a smattering of the basic gorier crossed series.

Personally, I'm not impressed by the Crossed, as I hrew up on Warhammer 40k and what the crossed do are just what chaos cultist do.

My only snnoyance with this series is that when plot needs it, their stupid zombies rushing into gun fire and tgen when the plot needs it they are super clever.
