I'll start with the obvious one
Bolland is the man.
>tfw he'll never do interiors again.
Neal Adams has the original art of this pic up on his website for sale, at $20,000
oh yeah, he is an immensely arrogant man, the interview I got >>78205769 from he let that show,
>"Look, there’s nobody within the comic business that’s five years my junior or five years my senior. There’s nobody in comics that’s a contemporary of mine. They don’t exist. There’s 10 years of blank. So obviously I was a very stubborn, aggressive, positive person. You don’t get to be somebody like me without being very, very tough."
>"I like Batman because I was able to bring him to what he was supposed to be. I didn’t change him. I just brought him back to what he was supposed to be—[away from the campy nostalgia of the TV show, and back to brooding]. I created Havok out of whole cloth, so that’s pretty interesting. I took Green Arrow, who was a copy of Batman, and turned him into his own independent-type character that you never saw before. So in effect I created Green Arrow, yet I’m stuck with the fact that I recreated Green Arrow. For Green Lantern, I didn’t do anything except make him the character that Gil Kane created and saved him from obscurity, and then created John Stewart [in the early ’70s], who is a black Green Lantern, and I gave a character for black American kids and kids around the world to look up to."
....And this man is the only legitimate heir to Kirby working today. Friendly reminder:
Why is Bolland annoying? He personally offended you or something? Not being facetious, genuinely interested to know why you'd say that. One of the co-founders of Titan Books and the Forbidden Planet chain of comic-book stores once told me Dave McKean was a massive knobcock...but it's about the art, reet?
McKay gets discussed a fair bit, why, I've seen his name mentioned four times this week already!
His whole attitude is what annoys me
>I'll never do interiors again, I'm too good fit that
>ugh, the original coloring on KJ is terrible, my coloring is far superior
He's a brilliant artist, but also a stuck up one
Hahah oh man that fucking Killing Joke re-colour is one of my greatest comic-related bugbears ever! "Oh yeah let's replace this beautiful greyline-process colouring with shit, slick, shiny digital crap", great idea, Bri! I was "debating" someone on here who basically said it's his work he should be able to do what he wants with it....but it WASN'T his work, it was John Higgins'! So, yeah, NOW I see what you're saying, totally...I think he's given carte blanche at DC isn't he?
Last Bolland interor I remember seeing was that strip for Batman Black & White...was that one of his last jobs as a comic artist? I don't keep up with contemporary m/s stuff that much.
