It's a company group, not a single company. There are very practical and solid reasons for operating that way (not least that it limits liability - eg when New Line tried screwing Peter Jackson and the LotR cast out of their earnings, they could only sue New Line, not the whole group).

One result of that is that they legally can't share assets and have to run as separate companies - they're more likely to enter into joint ventures, but each of them has shareholders and each of them has responsibility to those shareholders to maximise profit. You can't just say "we're going to loan $500m to DC Entertainment because it's struggling", you have to have a business case for doing so that goes beyond sentiment.

But there were problems as Warners/DC at a fundamental level for decades. WB have owned DC since the 80s. And other than Batman they haven't done much but squander the IP.

Marvel managed to take over global entertainment in 4 - 5 short years of gaining access to funds and the Hollywood studio system. What have Warners done with the larger DC universe in 30 years?

Given us Catwoman, Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern.. They could have had a Joss Whedon helmed Wonder Woman movie out of the door over a decade ago but fucked it up. That's the kind of franchise people make careers on and Warners just don't as a corporate entity understand the properties.

Superman I, II, Batman 89, Begins, if we're talking animated films that opens things up a lot. Plus you said "good" not great or perfect so maybe Batman Returns and Batman Forever? They're flawed but watchable. Batman 66 is campy fun.

The only truly bad ones are Steel, Batman and Robin, and Green Lantern. It's generally agreed Supes 3, 4 and Catwoman are at least bad enough to be entertaining throughout and Catwoman and Steel are pretty removed from their comic counterparts. Pretty sure Catwoman's goal was to give Eartha's Catwoman an identity but it didn't do the poor gal justice.

Man of Steel is kind of crappy but I find more middle of the road boring than on the level of Green Lantern. It pisses me off as a Superman film but when I look out it without my emotions it's just kind of there and should be forgotten one day.

Should we count serials? I haven't seen those so I can't really place them anywhere...

Just go for the obvious and fix their fucking public image. Right now the average person views DC as the home of dark, brooding, serious comics because that's the tone of every other section of their media. Batman is the poster boy of DC for years, and their severe over reliance on him in other media is exactly what hinders them when it comes to comics. They just need more of a balance; throw in more lighthearted stuff that also serve as advertisement for lesser known heroes, while also dialing back the darker, more serious stuff. Show the normies you can actually have fun with DC, and that other heroes exist. Ironically, they actually had the right idea with Brave and the Bold, only to go the opposite direction afterwards.
