I was never an alcoholic, or very dependent on it. Sorry if my post implied that. Mostly I was just casually drinking. At worst I spent like 3-4 months getting cross-faded alone every day in my apartment. After that it was pretty hard to stop, but what I did was just to eat a lot of junk food and candy. Played a shit ton of Diablo 3 and other grindy games. Basically replacing an addiction with something else to get my mind off of it.

If you've been going at it for longer than that I don't know if this is of any help.

I take anti-depressants, go to therapy, the whole shebangbang. Been in and out of doctors for 8+ years for mental issues. I'm getting better, but the time it's taking to get to a point where I don't relapse and become a suicidal mess is exhausting. I basically have no friends, hobbies, or life outside of going to work then going to therapy to feel good enough to get back to work.

I've been on straight Zoloft, Lexapro, Busparone, and assorted cocktails of medication. None of them seem to do much aside from treating symptoms such as insomnia, sweaty palms, shaking, some anxiety, etc. Most make me nauseous as fuck. I regularly vomit 3-4 days out of the week on waking up.

Last summer, I moved into a townhouse with a bunch of stoners. I wasn't a heavy smoker beforehand, but once I moved in... Oh boy.

I was in the best mental state of my life. As soon as I felt anxiety coming on, I'd smoke and it would dissipate. When I am sober, I am unable to control my thoughts or emotions (which is why I'm on medication). I have panic attacks, crying fits, extreme fear, etc. I know it's a part of my lifestyle and my career and I am taking steps to fix that.

However, weed removes all sense of doom that comes with anxiety/depression. I can actually control what I am thinking and feeling. I have had similar feelings while taking LSD and MDMA - both of which I would not use on a daily basis.

Stoner culture is retarded. Plenty of stoners are losers and will be losers their whole life. But weed does a whole lot of good for me and if I had to go back and do it all over again, I'd have started smoking as soon as I was in college. I would have performed so much better had I not been so fucking depressed and I might have actually gotten a job in my field.

That's really something I've only seen in younger "stoners".

A couple of years ago I made a new group of friends at University, diverse ages (19-37), some "stoners" some not (including a former smoker). There never was any issue that some people don't smoke, nor was there any push for consumption.
Hell when we had dinner at one of the girls' house and made a space brownie, we made sure to bake a regular brownie aswell, so that the non-weed people wouldn't miss on dessert. It so happens that lots of the straight-edgers did end up taking a taste of the space brownies, with one girl having a mild bad trip (in which she was taken care of diligently by more experienced users).

I'd tend to agree. The stoners that I know personally feel the need to 'educate' me about weed whenever I turn them down. Like I don't already know and agree that weed is relatively harmless on the body. They just preach at me when they're high, which is partly why I don't hang out with them when they're stoned.

Of course, these are the same people that left another friend of mine who was having a bad trip curled up on the floor while they went to wander around outside, so maybe I'm judging the group as a whole too harshly.

How do I explain to others that while I like smoking weed and taking psychedelics, I'm not an obnoxious stoner? The culture really bugs me but I love to do it with friends and I have some good shroom stories I'm reluctant to share because "dude drugs lmao".

Who the fuck thinks talking about weed (or any drug for that matter) is interesting in the first place? Especially when you're high, there's so much more to talk about. Those people are boring as hell.

I've been smoking weed for 15 years and I've even worked in a weed "farm" for the last 6, and you won't catch me talking about weed besides for eminently practical reasons (like "we're out of weed").

Well and right here, right now, but this is 4chan, seems like anything is worth talking about here. You won't find me in a stoner thread however.

I guess you don't, because that would make you a preachy stoner. Just behave like a relatively normal person and don't try to make people say "I approve of you taking drugs".
Don't talk about drugs in general as a topic of conversation, that's basically all the "culture" is: talking about drugs.

Drug stories usually aren't that interesting anyway, and if they are it's not because of the drugs. Which is to say, if the story isn't "I was so wasted so I did this outlandish thing" but "this happened (and I was also wasted)", then you're in the clear, you don't even particularly need the "I was wasted" part.

That's the thing, my best friend used to be awesome, then he hung around with metalheads and stoners and has barely a passing interest in the "geeky" stuff we liked such as comics, board games and video games and with the exception of the latter he just only brings up those things if he thought it was cool. I know it was mostly peer pressure that made him an ass but the weed just made him annoying and it was his main topic of conversation about how cool it was.

Don't hang around with him anymore


Also my other stoner friends were less annoying off the stuff but when they spoke about it they were just assholes to anyone who didn't smoke it (unless you were like my one friend who didn't even smoke that much and was just cool)

I do know like 2 cool people who smoke weed but they only do it like monthly or bi monthly and never speak about it really

I really do smoke to often at least 5 times a week. After work when my bones ache. Also after yoga.
Or any strenuous activty.
I also find myself looking up thoughts I've suppressed over the years and meditate on them.
