Winding down on the Christmas contest. Finish up those stories soon, or just let me know if you need a little more time. Closing at 2:00 eastern/30 minutes from now.
How cold does it get in your neck of the woods, /co/? Around here, winter can dip down to -60C/-76F, but that'll hopefully be avoided this year.
On a side note, reposting my list: 3H7IYBFP34A8A
Where I grew up it gets regularly down into the single digits in late December and January, but I just moved out closer to the coast and I think so far it's only gotten below freezing like twice overnight. A lot milder out here and it's disconcerting to be able to walk around outside and have it be in the mid-50s in December.
Okay, I finally got an address to go with my wish list. Haven't been gifted yet, so if anyone just wants to get me whatever from my list, it's cool. 297MIGOM4JLT0
So, /co/, tell me, what's your favorite part about Christmas?
It's a holiday during the comfiest season of the year, people are generally nicer, winter dishes are great.
If you're talking about christmas day in particular, it's gotta be the christmas dinner.
fuck me rigid with a motorised cactus strapped to the back of a burning train. Where the fuck do you live? How the fuck do you even cope? Over here -5 is considered extreme.
>Where the fuck do you live?
Central Alberta, Canada. There's nothing between us and the North Pole, and we're far from any large bodies of water which could moderate our temperature.
>How the fuck do you even cope?
We wait for our +45C/+113F summers, and try not to go outside if it's below -30. Aside from wearing more layers and being careful while breathing (cold air in lungs hurts like you wouldn't believe; cold air freezing the moisture in your nose, moreso), life goes on.
in case the guy that updates the pastebin is here, this is my list 35T26B7C04STN
below 0 but fucking Pitt still doesn't cancel classes
working. I am in college and my family does most of our stuff christmas eve/christmas morning, so I trade days with people at work (the airport) to work christmas day. I get time and a half, and they get to spend the day with their kids/family
I'm going to assume all the entries are in. I've put them all online here: https://sites.google.com/site/cosecretsantastories/home
All the stories are linked on the left-hand side. Give them a read and share your thoughts to help me decided a winner!
>below 0 but fucking Pitt still doesn't cancel classes
I hear ya man, I lived in Morgantown for six years and only saw them cancel classes twice, and that was when we got literally two feet of snow dumped overnight. PRT system broke down , buses out of service, ice on the sidewalks and below freezing temperatures? Fuck you, you still have to show up to take your final!
I have that trade, it's fucking great and I wish Tradd Moore stayed on the book, or that the very least that Felipe Smith took over both art and writing duties right after he left. The guy they brought in after the first six issues just had a really weird style that cut a lot of people's interest in following it and sales took a huge hit.
Merry Christmas to all of /co/
here's my wishlist
>Dad had now come over with a trio of hot chocolates, having got the tree up about five minutes prior. As per usual, the mix was deliciously thick and he'd even added a dash of orange to it, before topping it with marshmallows, whipped cream and cinnamon.
>In hot chocolate
I'm intrigued. Is that a thing? Goddamn some hot chocolate sounds good right now.
It'd not just the covers. The interiors for the first arc are all rad.
Exactly what I got last year from a kind anon
who I'd like to return the favor to but as of yet I'm still the only .de user, that Moore art is something else. Perfect portrayal of speed in comic form, very vivid lines and has a animatic feel.
Chocolate and orange is a pretty common holiday flavor combination.
Citrus fruits in winter used to be something reserved if you were SUPER rich, before it became easier to ship produce across the country and grow it in hothouses. Nowadays, fundraisers or gifts involving fruit baskets are still common out of tradition even if you can just get oranges at the supermarket at any time of the year.
Yeah that's the artist who took over after Moore left. Tradd Moore has a very exaggerated sort of graffiti style, but he has a very good grasp on how to draw the eye across a page and allow that art to read well at a glance. Daimon Scott didn't really have that second part down.
>"Mr. Jameson this is not really the best ti-"
>"Of course it is, Parker, this is the only time! You're always begging me to put you on more assignments because you need the money. You want money? I want pictures, pictures of that Superman float they have down there! Now don't screw this up, the parade starts in half an hour."
Is there a joke I'm missing or is that supposed to say Spider-Man?
I had my doubts about it when that turned up on google images after looking up Tradd Moore + Ghost Rider.
Guess he tried to emulate him for that page because what I read after Moore left was kinda so-so artwise.
All I want is Titmouse to do a Ghost Rider animated series.
Merry Xmas Boobies, it's that time again time for another Riddler Xmas Prize Puzzle Penis Pentration Extravaganza (ignore those capital letters kids, seriously those were a joke). Speaking of time what do you think of my new portrait it's got quite a festive name. Fitting don't you think?

Anyone else been enjoying the English weather? Did a miserable 13k run in the rain and then ate some oaty biscuits from Tesco. Going to go check some lists from some UK Anons.
Also Koppaberg apple spice is shite; don't waste your money on it.
Never heard of this artist before but he really impressed me.
If no one had next I got a fun little storytime with murder most foul, and Bananagrams
I'm pretty sure the Batmobile doesn't need to have it's tires pumped.
I need to move further north, because here in southern New England, it doesn't really start getting cold until like, the end of December. And we're lucky to see snow before January.
That is, snow more than half an inch. Sure we might get a few flurries in mid-December, but it's a rare occurrence to get anything big before Christmas.
>tfw you haven't had a "white christmas" in over 10 years
As for temperatures, it rarely goes below 15 degrees. Even in January/February, it's in the high 30s / low 40s during the day, and into the low 20s at night. We have pretty mild summers, and pretty mild winters.
>tfw live in South Texas
>coldest it ever gets is 40~F
We've had snow once in recorded history here back on '04. It was like 6 inches and melted by noon. But it was there Christmas morning and was some of the most fun I've ever had.
He does those webcomics Scary Go Round and Bad Machinery. He also has a comic that's published by Boom! called Giant Days that's been fantastic
This is the picture I share whenever people are all "What's Texas winter like?"
Well usually I get a nice snowing where I'm at (when I was in college we had a once in a lifetime snowfall that basically blocked us all in), but out in the PNW it's strange how warm it is here.
I grew up in West Virginia and my brother moved down to southern Alabama for a job a couple years ago. Sure enough, the first year he was down there they got snow and an ice storm that threw the state into basically a state of emergency for two days because they didn't have snowplows or salt for the roads. Pretty funny for us who are used to regularly getting feet of snow, salting driveways, and keeping a snow shovel in the trunk of your car just in case.
Winters up in the mountains aren't usually terribly cold, but they are pretty damn wet.
I think I mentioned this to you once, but I have family down in Lubbock and it's pretty funny to hear them talk about the weather
>yeah so we had a foot of snow overnight
>and then it melted by noon and now it's 60 degrees outside
>oh now we have a hailstorm
sorry posting is taking so long something is up with my internet
Here in the middle we get less of the really cold and crazy shit because no altitude, but the ice reliably shuts everything down at least a few times a year, because no one wants to drive on elevated ramps with ice. Wait, no, some idiots always do, and then they get stranded and the news is all "DON'T DO THIS, MMMKAY?"
writer of that one here.
I don't know if they're a thing in the US, but Terry's Chocolate Oranges are the absolute bomb, moreover, making a hot chocolate with them is utterly heavenly.
I tried to convey the idea of chocolate+orange in case the chocolate orange wasn't a thing but I didn't realise that the combination itself might not be familiar with US readers.
Fixed the internet, highimpact sexual storytiming is now.
Yeah, kinda wish Waitrose was open so I can get some Aspalls or go back to tesco to pick up some Vodka, but I want to wait till I get back home so I can buy a litre of Southern Comfort for £20 to share between my friends.
Just finished Prophet, I'm now chillin and playing some Bloodborne.
Anything for you anon. Also seriously check out Giant Days. I think their might be a christmas issue of that too that I'll storytime later
This comic is really cute, thanks for running it
Also, Celtic Frost is an odd metal band. Have their cover of "Mexican Radio", happy fun thread:
man, I'm liking this so far. The art is simple but amazingly cute and the characters so far are pretty nice.
seek one out, or at least find some of the packs of individual segments, then get yourself some hot chocolate mix.
go home, finely grate approximately two to three whole segments (5-6 mini segments) and put a generous helping of the chocolate mix in. Don't bother with water at all, just put whole milk in the mix and either mix it in a milk frother or over a hob and enjoy. add a little mint if you want to get adventurous.
It's so great one of my favorite comfy comics
>So, /co/, tell me, what's your favorite part about Christmas?
Movies. I just love a good holiday movie. Makes me feel good.
>temps range between -76 to 113 degrees
This art is glorious.
Oh and there is a Giant Days chirstmas issue about a pre-christmas ball. Want me to storytime that next?
I'm not the only that's looking for IT am I?
You know damn well what that "IT" is
Klaus was a good read. I wish they had started it earlier so they would be finishing it now and we could get a storytime of the whole thing.
NGL, I would read Energy Crow.
This reminds me I need to do some kind of shopping for the nieces, except they already have enough things that they'd probably just be happy to play more Scribblenauts Unmasked with the person who will 1) put up with them for hours 2) can spell and type
That can be arranged, if you give me a sec I'll fire up photoshop.
7 and 4, and I'm holding off on a lot of physical editions because they're really hard on books right now. They have several DC Super Pets books and the Encyclopedia, even though I was tempted to keep that for myself.
Also, appropriately, one is totally into Batman and the other into 'Supa-man'. The bedrooms may variously become the Batcave or the Fortress of Solitude.
I got one of the girls I work withs kids some IDW TMNT trades for his birthday. He's 8, he wrote me a thank you letter
Most of the kids at work read the fuck out of Tintin, Amulet, Drama, Smile and a few others. Bone is pretty popular as well. It's nice to see kids enjoy comics.
Some are slowly transitioning into Marvel and DC but less so due to how expensive they can be.
And that's it for the John Allison extravaganza!
>It's nice to see kids enjoy comics.
A lot of my sixth graders are into superheroes, but not many of them read actual western comics. I mostly catch kids with copies of manga series instead.
And also since everyone's talking about what to get kids, a kids rec list I made a while back
To make it easy, all I really want are Asterios Polyp or Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. Will be looking for others to gift in the meantime!
Doesn't surprise me. Manga is probably more accessible for kids. You know exactly where to start, and the price is probably a little better than the average DC/Marvel trade, though I guess that might depend on issue.
This got me looking through my saved guides and I got this. It's probably been posted but I'll put it back on
I wanna try some Christmas Colonel.
Mangas are much easier for them to get. The library at my job only carries a small handful of Marvel books (paperback masterpieces that are shredded to shit), no DC, but plenty of Scholastic and manga like Detective Conan. One third grader did walk in with the original Secret Wars trade last week. Made me realize I still need that myself.
It is really hard. At my old job my boss let me buy a pretty substantial amount of comics for the library. Both manga and comics had their problems: Manga is easy to select top series, but you're basically on the hook for a ton of volumes for most series. Comics can be harder to pick out, but you can get really great standalones.
It is done, spoilered for those that haven't seen The Wrong Trousers.
Plus you have to make sure it's okay for kids to read, all that bullshit. I grew up with Maximum Carnage but I know we could never have that story in the library at work. So when I talk comics with the kids I try to just talk characters, not too many stories because the ones I read some parents might not want their kids to read.
Happy Holidaysssss, ssssinnerssss.
Hey, freeing onessself from the cubesss/extra-dimensional prissson/ssspace/wherever the hell I am thisss Prog iss a lenghty processss.
So we're officially on the evening of Sunday, December 6. You know what that means, right?
Hanukkah has started. Let's celebrate with a Hanukkah storytime!
And weep for the loss of GL:TAS. It still hurts.
I read them, at least. I have an idea which one is my winner, but I was going to see if anyone else had comments or thoughts.
I really loved all of them. They were basically everything I wanted from the contest.
Requested you make a loss or watch The Wrong Trousers? If the latter then you definitely should, as well as A Close Shave, Curse of the Were Rabbit and A Matter of Loaf and Death.
Oh and A Grand Day out too since that's the earliest W&G short, Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave are both brilliant though.

The bluntness is what makes it so great.
No worries, friend, we're all comfy here.
Reminder that Hal is Jewish on his mom's side.
Happy Hanukkah, /co/!
Merry Christmas anons
Pastebins are updated, we're at 79 gifted, still sitting at a 48% gifted rate but that's because of the new lists that have been added.
I'm still set to stream Star Wars Holiday specail tomorrow (12PM and 6PM PST), I think I've decided on using vaughnlive.tv I'm signing up right now, anyone have any warning or concerns of that site?
I update once I get off work, just got them all done though.
The SW holiday special is one of the worst christmas related made for tv things ever done, and it was all done by Lucas. There's a 20 minuet section with all wookies and no subtitles, you just have to guess what they're trying to convey.
And I've got a link for the train wreck http://vaughnlive.tv/elusive
No one as of yet.
Ahh well. It was easy enough to sign up, I did laugh a bit my streaming software still had a playlist of 1960's Dr. Who saved from the last time I tried streaming shows.
Why do you have to remind me Anon?
Still those last few talk-back threads were great.
Please don't remind me. He should have been raised Jewish them since we usually follow the mother's religion when it comes to Judaism. At least that was my Grandmother's excuse for forcing it on me when I was younger.
I should draw some Jews this week. /co/, give me Jews to draw!
Death has finally come for all of us! Hey, Death!
>perler bead ornaments
I love it. I want 2 of it.
Three's Company and Four's Cell Block 1138?
I think his mother was jewish.
But it's basically like DeMatteis' Dropsie Ave.
and apparently this happened.
The team is made of Menorah Man, Yarmulke Youth, Matzah Woman, Driedel Maidel, Magen David, Minyan Man, and Shabbas Queen
Threadly Joyeux Noel from 3P5RFH9G03V0J (.ca)!
And Chag Sameach, apparently!
They should fight Manna Man
Crap, just noticed I left a little smudgen on the 2nd panel, so I fixed that.
So, I took stock of all the presents I've got family this year (buying in advance may sound lame, but it saves SO much hassle) and I'm pretty much good. Going on a "two presents per person" rule (and discounting the fact that I have to give people table presents) I need to get my brother's fiancee one more thing (and a few table presents) and I should be okay.
Man, this mini is going to be so much fun for somebody to marathon next year.
Ah, shit, yeah injuries to joints like that hurt like a bitch. Have you gone to the ER or gotten it x-rayed? It's better to something like that immobilized and checked out before you make it worse.
>I might have a drinking problem
Seriously, anon, go talk to a professional. We can cheer you up here, but not much else.
>but I'm not the type to ask for help or go to a professional
Take it from someone who went through some shitty episodes of depression and anxiety, sometimes you really need to admit that you can't fix your problems on your own and get some help.
Saved a bit of money so I can send my Mum on a trip to see her birth country and friends.
For my siblings I got them TMNT Lego key rings matching their personalities (plus respective gifts), I gave myself the best turtle of course
My Dad I don't know what to get, I don't want it to always be a bottle of Jack Daniel's:
Any Ideas Anons?
Oh, and I guess this too
(Plus my favorite holiday drawing)
I don't know what Sugar Horse is, but I want some.
My mum bought Bananagrams off Amazon. Specifically, she bought a crappy Chinese bootleg Bananagrams; a few tiles were grubby and it said "BANANGRAMS" on the cloth banana.
I'm getting my future niece-in-law Li'l Gotham volume 1, a Batman & Superman doodling book and something called "Vern & Lettuce". I'm considering getting some Tiny Titans as well, just because I got her a couple of TT trades last year (and one for her birthday).
Human Torch accidently setting Christmas trees on fire and Crystal having to put them out
or Rocket hitting on a reindeer
or Young Justice Kon/Tim being cute and fesetive
or Black Canary/Songbird/Dazzler going Christmas caroling
or Carol getting a Christmas vibrator from Jessica
Next week'ss Prog isss the 2000AD Christmasss ssspecial for this year. To celebrate, methinksss I'll possst a jolly X-Masss classic.
The lossss editsss are hilariousss. Death isss the bessst punchline.
Ssspoiler for anyone who doesssn't want to hear me bitch:
I've also had an extremely difficult year. My dad passed away in June very unexpectedly and in a rather bad way. I'm thankful for threads like these where I can be reminded that not everything sucks ass and even a Christmas without your dad is a Christmas where people care. Thanks lovelies.
Now back to the good ssstuff.
Alssso, annual reminder that Walter the Wobot warmsss even my dead heart.
He really isss. Ssshame I never had one on Deadworld. Kind of an adorable HK-47.
Thanks for the story-time Jeath! What prsents are you getting your fellow judges?
My condolences Anon.
I met my biological father this year and it was a huge letdown, but I'm glad I have my real Dad in my life
;~; Ssso preciousss. He isss innocent.
Merry Christmas /co/
My list: 3W120D9EI4D4V
I got Mad Max: Fury Road for Judge Fire, updated Judge Mortiss' Gambit collection, and bought a large collection of Ssstar Warsss audio dramasss for Judge Fear months ago.
Thanks. I lost my Grandpa exactly a year ago next week, but that didn't hit nearly as hard for a variety of reasons. He wasn't a terrible person or anything, but we weren't as close as we could/should have been. I'm sorry to hear about that, there's nothing worse than an anti-climax. Glad you and your dad are good, though. My boyfriend is adopted as well and his real parents are awesome. I hear his biological parents are druggy deadbeat scum though, so I'm glad I don't ever have to meet them. Cheers!
And there we are! I don't have a wish lissst ssset up yet, so I'll have one readied by next ssstorytime. May your holiday be as merry as Walter isss. Perpetually.
wasss meant for
I ought to perhapsss ssslow down on the Christmasss cheer.
But seriously sucks about your dad I wish you the best moving forward. I made an effort earlier this year to talk more with my dad who I never see on account of him being a truck driver and being divorced from my mom. We were never close and I wanted us to be. Something went down with his phone and I havent been in contact with him for months, he could be dead out there and I wouldnt know about it. He really wasnt tech savvy, didnt even have an email address. I hope he at least wrote my number down somewhere.
If nobody has a spot reserved, I'd like to storytime some more Christmas Dredd!
>tfw there is basically only ONE /co/ related thing you want this year but you can't find it.
I have all the others and I'm missing this one to complete the connecting covers set. It gets worse
I'm an amyfag
A personal favorite of mine with a creepy premise and fantastic Carlos Ezquerra art, it's The Night of the Rad-Beast!
There's a point where you need to stop and he clearly passed it decades ago.
Thisss one I actually haven't read. I usually corner the market on Chrissstmasss ssstories about my hated nemesisss, so thanksss for taking the load off!
PSsss: Here'ss my wishlist: 1IT1G4KXCJJGN
Something wicked this way comes!
My pleasu--uh, my pleassssure, Sssssidney!
Ho ho hoLY SHIT!
Merry Christmas, /co/! And remember, stay outta the rad-pits!
Also, here's my wishy-washy wishie-list, just in case: LGDK6IM7M4VP
