Being an infantry(person) is hard!
You have to carry heavy equipment that weighs almost as much as you on your back, walk around with a rifle all the time, and endure shitty weather conditions, not to mention enemy fire and explosives!
Who would ever want a job like that?! (Except the tens of thousands of people worldwide who do just that)
Most of those tens of thousands are impressionable young adults straight out of high school who got duped by advertising, or are simply trying to get a free ride to college.
I picked up a couple issues of early Two-Fisted Tales a while back, the attention to materiel detail and equipment is very nice, and it treats warfare with a moralistic view.
Now, the New Tales, not so good after the original writer Kurtzman died...
I would Storytime but i dont have a scanner that doesnt shred what i scan at the moment.
I enjoy Terminal Lance, what other Military webcomics are there?
I wasn't duped. I knew exactly what the job entails. So you spend a few days in the rain or in the mud or in the blazing sun or in the sand and you carry heavy equipment around. There are actually way worse jobs.
I bet you also think we should do away with the military, open our borders to terrorists and Russians, and blow up all of the monuments to fallen soldiers at home and abroad. Or you could be an un-American piece of shit.
Oh wait you're all of the above.
You have to have had some kind of experience with the "firm" to fully appreciate these comics so I doubt they'll fly well here and add to that how salty nerds are at military people in the first place and all you get is people whining about things they have absolutely no authority to whine about.
>mfw some of the most asshole people in my unit watch anime
a state cares about his own and takes the necessary measures to protect his own. wars of aggression are not protection.
bombing ISIS is not agression, it's self defense. Iraq was aggression, Libya was aggression.
Sometimes it feels like something is missing if you just post the strip and not the news post that goes with it, partly because the anecdotes can be fun to read on their own though maybe also worrying that non-marines reading it won't get the full understanding of whats going on due to ignorance of the subject manner
You're incorrect, I've never served a day in my life and I still follow OP's example with great enjoyment.
The people "whining" in these threads are obvious shitposters tossing out blatant bait that people still respond to.
Not everyone has lofty ideas of their purpose.
The SS were so aware and proud of being a horrifying death machine they would go sing about how they would fight until death and know the devil on their side. A strange kind of intellectual honesty, but probably a remnant of Prussian ideas that an army should best intimidate the enemy into surrender before the fighting even starts and the civilians best be cowed into compliance.
Which naturally backfired gloriously in the 20th century with media reporting having easy pickings with an army that does not even try to look at all good and righteous in their actions.
So in two wars, German intimidation tactics caused global resistance to stiffen.
PVT. Murphy is pretty good but it requires some military experience to get sometimes. I liked it, though that may be because it was one of the few non religious books I could read in basic.
The artist is an infantryman himself, anon. Here's what he said about it in the accompanying blog post:
>In any case, I congratulate women across the Corps! Now you too can experience the shitty life of being a Marine Corps infantryman–otherwise known as “the suck.” Enjoy the majesty of pointless formations, being treated like a child, and having to spend literally hours cleaning your rifle for no apparent reason while you’re in the rear. When you’re on deployment, you’ll get the added wonders of patrolling in 80 lbs of shit literally every day while trying to avoid getting killed, all while your cammies chafe your sides and inner thighs in the 130 degree middle eastern heat.
He's not saying it's hard, he's saying it fucking sucks and that nobody actually wants to do it.
Apparently this is a real thing.
It's literally the latest comic m8. He's still getting ready for his actual "serious" graphic novel about veteran suicide, so his normal comic's slowed down a lot.
Every department of every armed forces likes to wave their dicks around about how they are the best, though yeah you've got a point and even the Terminal Lance guy references both sides of it despite the fact he actually was infantry.
For a country defending it's interests is not in any way diferent than defending the life of it's citizens. Stability on a global scale can mean growth and employment, trade, and goods for millions. A few lives are worth that. Morality is relative and government are supposed to be cold calculating machines because of it.
Woe to the vanquished.
It's the detail that confuses me.
Dammit... wrong image. Meant to post this one:
Since that comic actually makes sense since they both involved human armed forces so the joke still works pretty much the same.
MLP fans insert their rainbow horses into everything and often do so in a serious manner not just as a joke, like yeah for instance Pony Spess Mahreens which is just retarded and looks dumb.
You can google literally any series and find pony versions of the cast or such, even worse than the regular furries who draw all the characters as lions or wolves in mspaint since its much more widespread..
Like, seriously. You will never find someone as hard against you enlisting in the infantry as a former infantryman.
Being a Marine sucks it seems, beyond the physical trials which can at least leave you with the feeling of accomplishment and the boring parts of the duty there's so much bullshit that seems to exist for no other reason than to shit on the rank & file or make their lives more difficult with no practical purpose behind it.
Even my own dad told me not to do it. I believe his words were "If you're going to do it, for the love of Christ at least get a degree and go in as an officer".
It's a running theme throughout the comic that has the air of authenticity that only someone who actually lived through it can give.
>I hate people in the infantry because they never ever shut up about being in the infantry.
You could say that about anybody in any profession/lifestyle. It just so happens that hearing about infantry is what annoys you.
I did it. It fucking sucks. Pretty much every one of these comics I've lived through first hand. There are a lot of great moments, but for every 1 or 2 of those there is a hundred that leave you shaking your head wondering if leadership has gone insane or are a bunch of cunts on purpose. Honestly, it could be either.
Fuck field days.
>Department of Homeland Security
>not posting the best military comics in existence.
The Finnish army is sorta like a summer camp for big boys.
>Alright guys! The service time of the privates ends at 6pm, so we have to come up with something for them to do!
>Lets make them carry AT mines around the barracks!
>Lets make them stand in form outside for two hours!
>We should let them go to the cafeteria.
Air Force here. Behind every panel on the aircraft there's probably a few dicks, one of my favorites I've found
The weird thing is once you get out you forget how much it sucked and think about doing it again.
>Based (roughly) on real events :-DD
>ALRIGHTY! At the beginning, everyone will camouflage their helmeds and faces expertly, because very imbortant people will be watching dis excerice later!
>(and because I am obsessive perfecdionist :-DD)
>Fighter! Why the fug is your helmet full of blueberries?! Id stands out in the woods like a straight man among guerrillas!
>S-s-sir first lieutenant!
>I found a gread blueberry batch, and it would have been a crime to leave the berries there :-DD Now I can also have a snack while I am in the bunker :-DD Regards: Privade Guerrillafood-Saminder
>For fuggs sake! :-DD
>Blueberries are breddy good :-DD
>I-I agree sir First Liutanant
>Gib dat helmet XD :-DD
>Where did he go :-DD
>Ok, much better :-DD
>(Dis fugging guy! Dis hurts muh feelings!)
>Nothing else, garry on :-DD
>(Fug, I'm gonna go to civil service)
>(Oh boy XD I can't wait to tell about dis to the guys at the officer club :-DDD I 6 - stupid private 0 :-DDD
>Stability on a global scale can mean growth and employment, trade, and goods for millions. A few lives are worth that. Morality is relative and government are supposed to be cold calculating machines because of it.
have you looked at the middle east recently? american interference is the result of that.
I'm not denying it's useful, perhaps even necessary. But don't try to sugarcoat the fact that you are killing innocents and people who have fuck all to do with you.
Just accept you are a murderer.
We Finns make wooden dicks in the army.
Oilfield roughneck here. I can relate to the vast majority of this shit. Standing out in the desert for a 14 hour shift with a wrench is only marginally easier than standing out in the desert for a 14 hour shift with a rifle.
The last panel is a flash back to Abe (the guy with black hair) in Boot Camp with his head shaved being screamed at by the drill instructors.
EAS is when you have served your allotted period of time with the force and are allowed to escape.
/tg/ refugee here, this is totally accurate
You can't have a thread about fucking anything without someone showing up to shriek HERESY and start roleplaying a fucking Commissar
The entire board is 40k wankery, shitty quest threads, threads which appear to entirely consist of nothing but pictures of MtG cards, and the occasional monstergirl thread.
You seriously can't even talk about goddamn D&D there. D and fucking D.
Except people talk about various games all the time, like the Shadowrun/Exalted/Warmachine/etc Generals.
Infact I just opened up /tg/ this second and instantly saw multiple threads relating to D&D itself, and other on various other topics such as fantasy foods and historical wargames.
You are literally inventing issues to bitch about.
If you don't like Games Workshop stuff specifically just hide the threads, its what I do on various boards when I see stuff I don't care about and it only takes one mouseclick.
innocents get fucked no matter what you do, it's a matter of who's innocents are more numerous and important to the future of earth.
how can people do it? how can people just coldly decide some are better or more worthy of life? just like this.
They usually aren't. This was a case of a scholar gathering them for study.
They're not for fun. You channel your sexual frustration to it and leave it in the wilderness.
Your hard earned tax dollars at work.
Also on the task list:
Unloading a storage unit
Painting the storage unit
Cataloging and shelving everything in the storage unit
Doing it again
For twenty hours
For no reason
Been there, done that. Well, not literally there, but I did do that.
I do not read this comic because it would trigger me if I was the kind of person who gets triggered. Infantry is the same shit throughout the world, and this shit was my life for three fucking years.
We had orkfags shitting up CATastrophe threads. You know, the homebrew RPG setting about catgirls having parties on a flooded earth.
>not the original Vietnam one
Corpse on the Imjin, whadda comic.
Also White Devil, Yellow Devil...has anyone posted Bill Maudlin's Willie & Joe strip? Also Charley's War by Pat Mills and Joe Colqhoun is truly outstanding. Sorry if other's have mentioned these; no time to read whole thread, sorry!
Sorry, Anon, you did! Top fucking marks mate.
Oh I forgot all those Tardi comics set in WWI that've been collected:
Also that panoramic Sacco book about WWI that has some wonderfully detailed vistas.
I don't know, as a jojofag from /tg/, I'd say it's jojofags are worse because they're more insidious. JJBA as a series is a collection of perfectly functional stories with psychic powers thrown in to make things even more interesting than any competent author would have them be.
It's easy to see some 40kid coming a mile away, because the whole franchise is about being big, loud and obnoxious. It's not as easy to deal with jojofags, because they don't change anything about whatever you're talking about except adding Stands.
Also because the study that "revealed" doesn't account for things like doctors being mostly male, nurses being mostly female, and surgeons being mostly male AND being higher paid than either of the other two because their job is that much harder
