Hey /co/ someone requested Kerascoet from me in December, and we'll it's December!0
Hey guys sorry about that, I was having massive internet issues. How is everyone doing tonight?
Well Beautiful Darkness has a different writer and Kerascoet is actually a married couple but I 100% know what you mean.
This is all we have and very well may be all we get!
This comic is a wild ride that never ends.
Really? I thought that was how it was suppose to end, it's a very French ending to be honest.
On a side note, why do the Fench hate happy endings?
I loved this! I'm still debating actually buying a physical copy though. It's not that I don't like it, it's just hard to explain how a book about a French dominatrix prostitue is so good.
I thought I'd have the same problem but I really didn't. I say get it. As far as incompletion there was a purposed part 3
It really is such a weird premise, I love it, but trying to explain it just seems so weird.
Eh, maybe I'm a little biased since the last girl I dated pawed through most of my books when I brought her over.
>purposes part 3
I don't have too much of a problem with the way it ended. I thought it was very French and very fitting. That being said, I would very much prefer a happy ending for Blanche. She's so pure and earnest, even with her faults- of which there are many- I can't bring myself to dislike her.
i remember when you storytimed this months ago, loved it so much i ended up buy it
endings still shit though
I can see that being an issue
The ending is NOT bad, you may not like it but it's great from a writing stand point
Man at least use spoilers for those that haven't read it. That's a bit rude.
This was a fantastic comic right up to the ending, which is a bummer.
sorry for posting image but it's from the comic but why not
Someone asked for Spirou le journal d'un ingenu yesterday, so here a link:
And here, LONE SLOANE DELIRIUS:
Damn I personally wanted links to these but didn't ask. I owe you anon!
Well she WAS an accessory but yeah it was overkill, she was just a girl in over her head.
I'm not saying she was completely innocent, but executing her isn't exactly fair either.
Hell, given today's legal climate she'd probably get a off with complete immunity for testifying against the cLinetes given that she was as much a victim as a perpetrator.
Thanks for storytiming OP, got a good-tier reaction jpeg out of this.
There are plenty if you look, it's pretty nice.
This book is bad end after bad end. Really heart breaking stuff; even if the story is true to the setting.
OP, you should post Beauty after this, that one at least has a good end (despite being an equally huge emotional roller coaster).
I could do Beauty if you want, I'm gonna be playing Dive Kick all night anyway.
I never plan on leaving if I can avoid it! 5 years hasn't been enough time with you guys yet!
what sucks is he still would have saved her
How can something so right be considered a fetish?
Given her circumstances can you really blame her for not believing that. Not that what she did was right, but it is understandable in a way.
Well, when I found myself zooming in on bob cuts to the point that T&A was no longer visible during fap sessions I realized that my preferences had probably advanced from 'good taste in hair' to 'definitely a fetish'
It's not really about ending happy or sad. The story currently just kind of stops. Even if it ended with Blanche dying of STDs in a gutter somewhere, at least that'd be an actual resolution.
Annette did nothing wrong!
>The ending is NOT bad, you may not like it but it's great from a writing stand point
How is it great? It reads like a "too be continued" that was never continued.
The moral of the story is don't live in 1930s France.
Or just don't live in France period.
What other stories from these artists can you post? I already read this, Beauty, and Beautiful Darkness.
The ending is more than just a "to be continued" and can easily act as a completed ending just not a happy one and it's very open ended. The truth of the matter is that there probably wouldn't be a good or satisfying end to Blanche's story because that isn't the point of the comic as a whole. It's a sad ending that gives Blanche the shaft just like a lot of the story did. I'm not saying that the point of the story is "Fuck Blanche" but some people's stories have bitter, unmagical endings and if the comic ended on Blanche's mom stealing her stuff and Blanche in a bad situation then it's an ending consistent with the tone of the book.
Holy fuck this whole fourth chapter is such a bummer.
Why couldn't they have just been full-on American and ended after the third.
Guess the moral of the story is that everyone is horrible in their own special way.
I dunno, after Blanche figured out how killed her sister, it seemed like the next major thing she needed to do was figure out how to get out of the prostitution biz. But we never find out if she does or not.
It'd be like if the story ended without Blanche exposing her sister's killers and just stopping when she got kidnapped.
The difference is that she set out from the get go to find her sister's murder, that was the point of it all, part 2 was not expressly about her leaving the biz on any level near part one being about her solving her sister's murder. Yes we want to see her leave the business but that was not really the plot of part 2 as much as part 2 was about what happened next and the fact of the matter is that what happened next was shit and then we don't know what happened. It's not an ending full of catharsis no but it's a good ending.
Thank you based mr. Dashly! I saw this earlier and missed it, always meant to ask for a new storytime but I'm glad someone beat me to it.
Also hoping for Beaty! Happy Christmas season
I wouldn't say I'm based but thanks love. I'll make sure to fit Beauty in tomorrow for you and that other anon! Hope you catch it!
Here you go love not a torrent but I have a lot of Mediafires and this is in one of them!
Pretty much everyone got a reasonable ending to their story at this point.
The only loose ends are Jo(teehee) and Blanche. But its not like its unreasonable that they'd just be stuck where they were and that was that.
Thanks mate. Its the second link btw.
It's a tranny imitating her. The real Josephine Baker makes a cameo in one scene
>posting images in the middle of an ongoing storytime
Yes they will probably do another volume, but only when they really wnt to. But, this was posted in 2010.
I can't tell which side of the coin you're on which makes it a lot funnier.
"Thanks love"? You a Brit"fag", Mr. D? We all call each other love over here, (well mostly men to women and women to men) more of a Northern thing, though.
Still, trifling details! Thanks again Double D!
While you are entitled to your opinion I wouldn't call this art style cartoony, it's really trying more to invoke old french ads more than anything and even if you don't like it it is far from Shitty, Kerascoet is one of the best art duos in comics today and their usage of paneling and the emotional weight they can put on a simple art style is very impressive. I can understand you not liking them but to call them shit is outlandish. Hopefully I can story time something you'll enjoy more some day. What comics and artists do you usually enjoy?
My dad was cheating on my mom with this one woman who would make him teas made of daturas.
Before my mom and I knew about it we noticed he would act strange sometimes and that he got more quiet and was turning into a different person as the years went by.
Eventually my mom found out he was cheating, they divorced, etc... I stopped seeing my dad for awhile and when I saw him again he was this whole completely man, he was incredibly rude, selfish, he talked about the most retarded shit, he dressed like a hobo, but what I noticed more was that he was very pussywhipped by the woman he ended up with.
So to make things short, that woman was giving my dad datura teas because in Mexico they are thought to be a love potion which makes people fall in love with you but in reality daturas just make you trip balls and if taken in excess as time goes by it will leave you retarded.
So yeah that woman is in jail but my dad is a whole new person from who he was now, thankfully he managed to find a dumb wan to take care of him but he's kind of an idiot right now.
But yeah it pisses me off in a way but on the other hand he was a dick to my mom, but also what I learned from this was not to accept tea from people without seeing how it is prepared.
Dan Dashly, you are absolutely right about this ending. Having just marathoned the whole addicting read (it's now 5 in the morning, who needs sleep?) I was overjoyed with the ending -not because my heart didn't break for blanch, but because the writing was so damn solid.
"A thousand torments". Absolutely brilliant.
To all of you anons saying the ending is abrupt or "weird" -please take the time to treat yourself to foreign (as well as classic) cinema and expand your notion of what an "ending" is.
Watch "My Life as a Dog" or even "Blue is the Warmest Color". The story sticks with you despite the sad/abrupt ends. It's a culture thing and it's absolutely wonderful once you learn to embrace it.
Thanks so much for posting this as well as your mediafire links, Dan. This is not the first nor the last, I pray, wonderful story I'll discover because of you. I'm sure I speak for dozens of regular lurkers who come away enamored by the stories you post. As I regress back into the silent fold, I can only leave with the most sincere gratitude for your time and wonderful dedication. You move hearts, as integral to the process as "presenter" as the artists and writers in the pages you post.
Blue is the warmest colour was a shit comic though. Amateurish and unsatisfying.
I mean, I conceed that teenagers probably like that sorta stuff, but it plain was not a solid book.
I think if you look at Kerascoet's work on the whole their work is best described as being "cartoony". Which, despite what some may think, is in many ways harder to do successfully than "realism"/naturalism/classicism. It's obviously they can draw "realistically" from Beautiful Darkness but to me proper comics (and by extension "proper" cartooning strips down the world into it's simplest, or most economical form. What's that quote from Count of Monte Cristo about (and I'm paraphrasing here) "all art aims to attain a state of simple directness"? Well, to me, that's cartooning. People who draw comics from other people's scripts are comic artists, there's always been an apparent different, there's a quote from Charles Schulz saying the same thing.
If you're into comics as a medium, not just one or two genres I recommend (not you, Mr. Dashly) Ivan Brunetti's little book "Cartooning In Philosophy & Practice" it's kind of a modern version of those old Famous Artists Course but condensed down...economically. Okay, off soapbox. P.S--I don't mean to sound patronising but I know I sometimes DO, so sorry if any of this has come across that way.
Well....you just seem more open minded to non-shiny, over-rendered cape comic art bullshittery than the Anon (whose taste I am NOT attcking, there's some good cape comics being put out with great artists!), again, not trying to be patronising. Of course you can read it! Could storytime it some time this week. But though there are comics in it, it's mainly a making comics course in a book, if you will (it's an abbreviated version of the syllabus he teaches irl). I WOULD NEVER DENY YOU ANYTHING, DAN!!!
Well, that's fair enough, but I love (some) capes and genrestuff, too. I just think it's hard to take most Big Two comics seriously any more, on the whole they seem to have run out of ideas with flashy artists who seemed to have skipped "Visual storytelling 101" and went straight to "Advanced Flashy Layouts".
