Considering Jack came out 10 years before SU it is definitely NOT tumblr bullshit. It's a goddamn masterpiece.

Honestly all of the episodes are great.

If you want incredible artwork, Samurai Jack vs. the shinobi is fucking perfection.

if you want epic fucking fights, the 3rd episode, against the giant robot beetle army is a great way to start the series, really showing off how much of a badass Jack is. Dome of doom is good too.

Great story? Jack and the spartans, the good the bad and the beautiful, Tale of X9.

My personal favorite is the Bounty hunters episodes. Spend the whole episode hyping up these 5 hunters as the greatest shit ever, then Jack rolls in.

Really it'd be easier to suggest episodes to avoid. Like 90% of them are fucking great. I'd avoid farting dragon, naked jack and chicken jack. Over 50 episodes the story never progressed, at the end Jack was as far from killing Aku as he was on episode 3, that really disappointed me, specially since I watched SBT before Samurai Jack and was hoping for something similar in terms of story telling, the show didn't fit its own episodic format, it was asking for story arcs, and progression on Jack's goal, but it never happened, "the birth of evil" was the closer we of that, sort of.

With the main story out of the way, we are left with each episode's story they were fine, hit or miss, but that's just it a few great ones but nothing outstanding. I do realize that this part is 100% my opinion.

The background was the only good part of the art for me, the flat look of the character design was appealing to me, and the action scenes everybody praised was a huge let down, they were just jack slashing the camera most of the time, a compilation of very quick shots, no longer dynamic movements, everyone looked too stiff.

I wish I could like it as much as everyone else, maybe I just lost the opportunity to watch it as a kid, but for me it is a 6/10

Samurai Jack is probably the only cartoon I've ever seen that has little to no bad or filler episodes, it has great, interesting storylines, entertaining unique characters, and beautiful animation and sound design.

I think that the announcement of new samurai jack is the most united I've ever seen not just 4chan, but all web communities.

I'm kind of the same, and I imagine that's why it didn't do so well financially. As a kid, I loved the more action heavy episodes but I couldn't really appreciate the art, characters, and especially the sound and ambience as much as today.

After just watching the full series last year it's become my favorite cartoon.

the story of samurai jack is his journey back to the past
he already has the skills to defeat and kill aku in single combat from the very first episode when he was standing over his broken and defeated body.
killing aku in the future might make his journey to the past easier but aku has to much political and military power behind him and the time jack would have to take to bring down akus destruction is time he could spend looking for a way to the past. killing aku in the future is an unnecessary step to his goals.

the only thing jack needs to do is find a way to the past, if you are upset jack didnt complete the only goal he has to defeat aku in 50 episodes then you missed the point of samurai jack
