Has there been a single comic book character so far in this decade that is more important than Kamala Khan?
>>
Nope
>>
Define important.
>>
>>77952797
stole my comment
>>
Why are waifufaggots so goddamn fucking autistic?
>>
>>77952761
No

Pretty crazy how she blew up. Whether it's Film, tv or comics, Marvel seems to always win.
>>
>>77952824
If you don't have a waifu, how are you even here?
>>
>>77952761
In story? Like 90% of them.
In real life? She really isn't all that revolutionary, but she is probably the best received new character in a while.
>>
>>77952761
Important? Sure, plenty.

If you mean, has there been a big 2 superhero created in the past decade as successful as her? In which case, no.

The most "important" thing about her is just the fact that she shows you can still make successful new characters in the modern age and don't have to rely purely on mining the silver age for characters to "reinvent."
>>
>>
>>77952832
>blew up
>>
>>77952870
She is still a legacy anon she just isn't a carbon copy like most tend to be.
>>
>>77952761
Didn't stop the San Bernadino shooting from happening.
>>
>>77953017
#notallmuslims
>>
>>77952986
She is not a new superhero persona, sure. But she is still a new character.

You do know there are actual characters, right? Not just logos, costumes and their powers.

But you have to actually read the stories to know the characters.
>>
>>77952986
>like most tend to be.

Like whom outside of Miles?

Which legacy characters are a carbon copy?
>>
>>77952761
She's a very important example of a character who started out merely her ethnicity and eventually grew to be about her ethnicity!
>>
>>77953147
Damian was made last decade anon.
>>
>>77953147
why are you so obsessed with what people that do not read comics know about comics?

Why would that matter? You Americans need to stop being so insecure over comics and make pretty much everything boil down to what "casuals" know.
>>
>>77953147
>Damian Wayne
AAHHHHHAHHAHA FAGGOT
>>
>>77953171
Nope. First time he showed up with his name was 2006.
>>
>>77953185
The thread is about the most important new character in comics in the last decade. Important means most well known and well received. That's Damian. Sorry Kamalafag.

Damian is also half Middle Eastern.
>>
>>77952761
She's not important but she's my waifu regardless. Rather that's what makes her important.
>>
In the next issue Kamala will pay a visit to a nearby social services centre
>>
>>77952967

>>
>>77953205
>Counting decades by actual time elapsed and not arbitrary zeros
I bet you think 1916 was this century.
>>
>>77953257
Sorry I use decade in the literal sense of the word. Stay mad.
>>
>>77952761
We're only halfway through the decade but as far as Legacy Characters go, she's the most successful in a LONG time

Hell, she's practically Xena-ing Carol at this point
>>
>>77953257
So then why not ask if there's been a more important character in the past 6 years?
>>
>>77953147
Yeah pretty much this. Damian is the most successful Robin since Dick. He's been in video games, animated movies, and has his own solo.

Sorry your flavor of the week doesn't hold a candle to him yet as far as recognizability goes.
>>
>>77953300
She's definitely Xena-ing Carol. Her book regularly sells like 10,000 more copies than Carol. It's a little ironic, Ms Marvel always seems to be bigger than the actual Captain Marvel
>>77953335
Hasn't Tim done all those things too?
>>
>>77953276
OP said "so far in this decade" meaning that it's based on arbitrary zeros.
If OP had said "in the past decade" it would mean in the past ten years
>>
>>77952761

>>77953147

Would you ship Damian Wayne with Khamala Khan /co/?

Seriously, who wouldnt?
>>
>>77953223
>That's Damian

Nobody knows who this is.
>>
batman
>>
>>77952761

The fact that she's a mainstream muslim character in 2015 America in a good book that people actually read is kind of incredible, so maybe you're right. Important doesn't mean best or most famous or whatever... it's like Hitler being "Man of the Year."
>>
>>77953223
>Important means most well known and well received.
Not necessarily.
>>
>>77953223
Quarter.
His Mom is like half Chinese I think.
>>
>>77953086
When it comes to marketing a familiar name and logo is a selling point. They are just as Important as her own character.
>>
Not important, but I would say well received.
>>
>>77953508
Needs some 40k to really cover all the autism bases.

I'm a regular player, but ill admit the fanbase is fucked.
>>
>>77953777
My Little Pony taught me that 40K is for neo nazis.
>>
>>77953797
The trouble with having Space Catholic Nazis as one of the major factions is that it attracts people who don't realise they aren't the good guys. Or that nobody in 40k is.
>>
>>77953516
Some casuals actually do. Him being Bruce's actual son has scored him big brownie points with the casual audience. If a superhero as big as Batman has a son, people are probably gonna hear about that shit.
>>
>>77953508

I don't see a DC character part anywhere.

Are you one of those kamalafags that think she would be just as popular with no affiliations with other characters, crossovers, the first Muslim character bull, or anything besides the solo chapters of her comic?

>>
>>77954194
No they don't thanks to video games and animated movies. If you are interested in comics in the slightest and you aren't a grill you most likely know Batman has a son. Ask casuals. I have, they've brought it up before. Some casuals actually think he's the only Robin besides Dick cause they know Nightwing.
>>
>>77954077
Still better than nothing and it isn't likely she would have gotten a solo with a new name.

In general? no, as far as Marvel goes Iron man has been the most important character this decade.

It's a new character, that's fine, and no one would complain if they had just made "Kamala Khan, the super hero".
No, they made her Miss Marvel, and then they make her important for no goddamn reason.

Important is a nebulous term, but she's definitely the most popular new hero in a long while. Since the Cable/Deadpool one-two punch 20+ years ago.
>>
She's not that important and her book isn't even a huge seller
>>
>>77954253
The fact Captain Marvel has always sold less than Ms, and for years Captain Marvel was just a member on a team rather than having their own book. I'm not trying to imply Ms Marvel was making big bucks and everyone and their mom knew about her but they were bigger than Captain Marvel.
>>
>>77954295

I agree with the Iron Man statement. I know movies don't help comics, but the fact that they spun an unknown character into an eye catching movement to really kick start cape films after Spider-Man helped the process and solidified the Disney/Marvel as a viable merger. Gave comic book companies another boost in money because we know that comics aren't a good medium to base a business off of. At least not anymore.
>>
>>77957671
Iron Man wasn't unknown. He wasn't' Spidey or X-men tier but my ass had memories from when he was a cartoon.
>>
>>77957671

Don't help comic sales *

Forgot to type that in there
>>
>>77957726

I mean, yeah in that regard. But to the wider public, they didn't know him. I could go to Iran and they knew Spider-man. You mention iron man before 2008, they didn't know who your were talking about.
>>
>>77954389
didn't the view talk about her once or something

or was that whor
>>
>>77957818

It was Thor
>>
>>77957955
>>77957818
Colbert Report talked about her.
>>
>>77957406
I think OP meant that in the only way one could view her as a significant character.
And that is important as an indicator that comic readers are not rejecting a character based on related RL troubles as a matter of principle.

Imagine someone had made a Chinese character in 1943. The American public would have rejected them on an irrational association with Japan. Even ignoring the general jingoism of the time.

Naturally she still isn't making the most sales, but she demonstrates that one does not need to obsessively play to a projected core audience's likings to sell a book. Quality and innovation with a bit of publicity does the job just fine.
No pollig of readers or statistical buyer analysis would ever have produced Kamala.
Nobody would ever have thought to demand a straight-laced SoL-y romcom about a nerdy Muslim girl that is too Lawful Good for this shit and her family. Especially not one with winged sloths.

What is so important is that it shows how much more is possible if your team knows what they are doing. That people can be convinced by quality and that one cannot ever know what the buyers will like before they see it.

Kamala is certainly not the only comic in that direction, but she is a big step forward.

It's not like comics were really shy about Muslim protagonists before.
They weren't the most successful but it's not like there were people boycotting Dust, Faiza, or M.
Granted they weren't as highly advertised either.
The only time I remember any controversy with Muslim characters is some 3rd tier Muslim character in a Superman backup didn't get released and people cried Islamaphobia on it.

I think it's fair to say Kamala is the most successful Marvel character and Damian the most successful DC.

Clearly we need another Amalgam so they can fuck.
>>
>>77959030
Yes, but that was not in the middle of a war when they had just thrown a bunch of Japanese in camps. I know that they were enemies with the Chinese, but to the American public it could have been irrelevant at that point.

Dust got a little bit of controversy back in the day, from both racists AND muslims, but it wasn't anything major and it blew over pretty quick.

>>77957406

Stephanie Brown was starting to make a pretty big dent popularity-wise with female readers but DC kind of cut it short...

I mean it's hard to say Kamala Khan is really all that important. Jaime Reyes was making waves just like her and now he's just kind of gone. Steel was shortly pretty popular after his introduction too. Can't really find a Marvel character to compare her to because they've really only more recently started pushing minority characters who aren't Storm or War Machine while DC started it in the early 90s.
>>
>>77963452
Jaime Reyes didn't have Kamala's sales. Sadly.

And he was before the digital advent. It's a big difference.
>>
>>77963452
Thing is, Kamala is currently expanding into a team book, and a flagship title at that. She got a place in the shipping special, too.
And right now the deck is stacked against her, as far as sentiments go.

There really is a lot of difference betweenKaKamala and Dust.
Dust is kept in the X-Men. A sterile environment, mitigating a character's culture.
As opposed to Kamala with her family where traditions, doctrines and sentiments collide.
