Star Vs. The Forces of Evil is being dubbed in Japan as 「悪魔バスタースター・ バタフライ」(Akuma Buster Star Butterfly).
Here's the newly released video promo about said dub being released this December on the 18.
What does /co/ think about it?
Sorry bro, but it's the week-end. You should've posted this on /sveg/ instead of making a new thread.
It's not dead, it's just horribly slow. We were on page 8, you could've waited for the new thread to be delivered. But whatever, I ain't noone's boss. I just don't want /sveg/ to be in troubles. Thanks for linking the news though.
Trust me, that's never as fun as it sounds like it could be.
So has anything been said about the actual voice actors?
Star's a bit higher pitch than i'd expect but i should have anyways.
I'm wondering if Yohei Tadano is dubbing over any of Alan Tudyk's roles like he usually does?
So does this make Tom the same thing as the monsters in that dub if they're all demons? Weird.
Also Star got the high shoujo protagonist voice I expected, but I didn't think Marco would sound so fuckin deep. Don't even know what's going on with the King.
Nope, bitch barely does voice work nowadays.
Also the dub is going to be gag-dub cringe worthy, like the LEGENDARY beast wars dubs and SU
>those horrendous japanese steven and garnet
Italy here, very good translation, almost perfect, except for some strange mistakes (Janna's "I heard once you get in, you never come out. Wait, that's cows at the hamburger factory" became "...you never come out. Hey look, the cows from the hamburger factory!"). I thought they would have dubbed the italian stallion as spanish, but they redubbed him in italian.
Star VA got very good after the first episodes, and Marco was decent too, but they frequently had problems with intonation (in BMB "Aww thanks Marco!" was SCREAMED).
Ludo's voice is not raspy enough, but otherwise a good performance. Toffee and Tom are... meh.
I really liked how they localized the double meaning of cleave, choosing the word "attaccato" (it means both "to be attacked, hit" and "to be glued together, merged")
All in all a solid 8 out of 10. Gravity Fall's dub, now THAT is really shitty. Truly a shame, a lot of jokes got censored or got lost in translation even when they were in no way puns.
Good I can finally watch this show.
Fucking pleb ass /co/ watching a goddam magical girl cartoon in english
And back in the 90s, it was the same with X-men: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfjAbXrvkFw
They had 2 openings. Iron-man's 90s cartoon had an alternative song, but it was lame. I don't know of more cases, sadly.
CRY FOR THE MOON!!!!
Maybe autistic isn't the right word. Doesn't make it any less strange. I would always assume the shows original language would be the best. Considering they would spend the most money on those VAs compared to any dub.
Japanese star sounds fucking adorable though.
I wanted to draw another scene from "As Long as I Want You" but I just couldn't get Star as Catrina out of my mind.
I hope, I'll be done this weekend.
>I would always assume the shows original language would be the best.
>Yet we're mostly subfags here.
What do you mean by that?? You watch your american cartoons in foreign dubs with english subtitles? Also I'm not saying I care that it isn't in it's native language, it's just why would you watch in any other language?
What I mean is that most people here prefer to watch cartoon with original voicework and subs. For the reason that original voicework has superior voices and acting with a few possible exceptions which i personally don't agree with.
So Google Translate on a few Japanese posts about this says something about a Kansai dialect. Are they referring to Star's dialogue?
Guess that'd be one way to make her dialogue stand out since they avoided giving her a lower voice.
>yfw it gets the RWBY treatment and gets a manga
It's not nearly "animu" enough for that, but
Ok, that picture is utterly hilarious.
And, just remember, that's the setting she used to destroy the tower in Saint Olga's with one shot.
And it didn't do a damn thing this time.
So instead, she hit it REALLY hard.
Star is scary.
>Just the devil horns?
>Not the entire episode that takes place in Hell, with Star's ex being a demon prince, who tries to get her to bathe in unicorn blood?
Well, jeeze, you say it like THAT and it sounds really bad....
I am continually astonished how dark SVEG is. I mean... wow, that's some dark shit.
>the Tsundere childhood friend which thankfully, it doesn't have.
Are you so sure about that anon?
So is this the general for right now? Because I was thinking of drawing and taking requests but i wanted to make sure.
You guys didn't seriously like Marco, right?
Man, if only Star was half as good as CCS.
>Marco's VA is Jonathan Joestar
SUNLIGHTO YERROW OVERDRIVE
>Caring that the show isn't in it's native language is VERY autistic
Anything that has been translated is always a little off. Translating it and THEN having someone act it puts completely different contexts and interactional spins on lines that were intended to give a different meaning.
Subs or native are literally the purest form.
Dubs fags are illiterate cancer. Usually American because they haven't interacted with subs normally before like many other countries
And to add to that Rin Tohsaka's VA will be voicing Star.
Last year precure has an interdimensional princess as a magical girl and she falls in love of a human boy who happen to practice karate but he likes the female lead. That triangle wasn't explored beyond a couple of episodes though
There aren't any Japanese magical girls currently airing.
I've read some Japanese comments that say Star apparently speaks in the Kansai dialect. It'd suit her since there's a stereotype that people from the Kansai region are boisterous and carefree, but I can't tell the difference between accents in spoken Japanese to be sure.
