Good evening folks, last night's "Name That Obscure Christmas Carol" seemed to go over well, so I've got a few more lined up for you guys tonight.

Again, guess all four songs correctly and I'll buy something from your list!

We are at 75 ungifted (not counting the 4 needing addresses) and 65 gifted. That's a 46% rate of gifting.

Eh no need to be sorry, just that it was requested by some to have Christmas somewhere in the OP and another anon made a thread thinking there weren't any this year because he couldn't find the thread. It's why I added Christmas Cheer to the subject for the last thread I did.

I thought it time to finally obtain a tripfag status. How is everyone enjoying their December 4th? No snow yet, here in Ohio.
>>
>>77934689
I remember back in library school one day we had a music librarian come talk to our class and she showcased one of those old print books that helps you identify songs just based on the pattern of the first few notes. I was really wanting that last night when I couldn't name Song #4.

You can actually lean it as rhythm. If you can lean to type without looking at the keyboard then you can lean to play piano pretty well. Though being tone deaf would hinder you appreciation of the result.

I know it's heresy, but I really don't like Alex Ross art. Like, I totally appreciate the technical skill, but it doesn't work for me as comic book art.

Which reminds me sometime this year I should storytime that Superman Peace on Earth story he did.

wouldn't call it my fondest, but it's the first one that comes to mind, and I think it's best expressed in greentext.

>years back
>I'm constantly losing pens/pencils at school
>My stepmother is an absolutely wonderful Slovak woman
>she says to me that one day she's going to get me a buttload of pens
>about eight months later christmas rolls round
>little kid me races downstairs, everything's dandy, tree's rammed with stuff including one huge box.
>ohboyohboyohboyIwonderwhat'sinthemassivebox.rar
>I open all the presents and it's one hell of a haul - games and albums up the wazoo.
>save the huge box 'till last.
>open it, expecting something amazing
>it's a big unmarked cardboard box
>it's shockingly light
>open it anyway
>there is absolutely nothing there except an asda-brand 50-pack of pens.

words cannot describe the crushing disappointment and acute sense of comeuppance I felt that day.

GH3 had a bunch of overcharted bullshit, and Dragonforce in general is pretty pleb-tier as far as power metal goes, so both combined makes for some songs that are written to look more complicated than what they are. I have no idea what tack the new Guitar Hero takes in terms of charting songs.

So when I was taking a shower after work I had a really good idea of something to add to the christmas mediafire, /co/ related Christmas radio shows. There's some Shadow, Superman, Lone Ranger and one from the Archie radio show.

A Very Murray Christmas is super weird but totally worth putting on as background noise for a Christmas party, at the very least. I'm watching Bill Murray and Miley Cyrus singing a duet on "Let It Snow" right now, and I'm not sure I understand the world anymore.

It's been a while since I forced myself to read Mountains of Madness, but I'm pretty sure they didn't mention anything about the Necronomicon or it's author.

Man. Lovecraft would make an awesome DM.

Just look at all the crazy and interesting worldbuilding and encounters he dreamed up. Prose just wasn't his wheelhouse, especially for horror, his way of writing was too dry and technical for it.

You can read the first issue without reading the others. I'm 90% sure they're setting up this event to be able to be read in trade without reading any of the series tied-in, though obviously you'll get more out of knowing the characters and such beforehand. That said,

you're right. in the original text, he mentioned star-spawn, who were worshippers of cthulhu and warred with the great old ones, and never explicitly mentioned him. the necronomicon is mentioned once or twice in the book, but here it's probably just to provide background.

>>
>>77938706
Well, everyone knows about American Christmas from the tons of Americans talking about it, I'm sure, but one American tradition is the holiday season starting with Black Friday, where people beat the shit out of each other in stores for low prices. The sane ones make sure they've got everything they need so that they don't have to go out on the day after Thanksgiving.
>>
>>77938706
>Christmas is the same every year.

It's nice seeing family but they do the same thing every year and it's really boring. My gf and I usually just go to town, because nobody's there. We just make up our own shit to do.
>>
>>77938706
>Japan

If I got you some things off your wishlist would you be willing to send me something unique to your country? I'd love something like that rather than a boring american gift.
>>

I have never gone out on Black Friday nor will I ever.

Lovecraft's fear of different races breeding. I think his views on race actually make his work more interesting since it's always framed as horror, but I understand why it's the reason some people avoid him
>>
>>77938869
Pretty hilariously transparent in his story about the white apes.
>>
>>77938869
One interesting thing with Lovecraft's fear of miscegenation is that some of it's still pretty ugly (his views on black people) and some of it strikes us now as largely ridiculous, like the terror in discovering an ancestor who was, get this...

WELSH.
>>
>>77938809
Through amazon or find something and mail it to you in a package? I've done something like that before when Jump had the final Naruto I grabbed a copy from a newsstand and now they have a copy of the original release of Narutos final issue.
>>
>>77938817
I've done it a few years and it's honestly not that bad in smaller towns, especially in recent years now that online shopping has killed the need to go to actual stores. Haven't gone in a couple years thanks to exactly that, the deals online are just as good if not better.
>>
>>77938916
Lovecraft hated everyone except people of English and Spanish decent
>>
>>77938869
I actually think the ending of Innsmouth is a bad example of his racial fears, the narrator ends up pretty satisfied that he will live forever as a fishguy.
Also can't go wrong with Dunwich Horror.
>>
>>77938934
Preferably find something not from Amazon! You don't have to though if that's too much work.
>>
>>77938971
That's not true, everyone gets Lovecraft's brand of racism wrong. He did not hate anyone, he just hated their culture. He didn't give a shit about anyone as long as they assimilated.
>>
>>77938981

>Lovett-Graff details Lovecraft's dismay upon learning that he was not entirely of the teutonic lineage he loved to brag about; his great-great-grandmother was a "Welsh gentlewoman of unmixed Celtick blood." Situating Lovecraft's anxieties in an era in which the minutiae of one's ancestry was becoming a subject for increasing scrutiny in North America as well as the more known example of Germany, Lovett-Graff sees this "Celtick" ancestor as the source of no small worry for Lovecraft, who was increasingly ascribing to the theory of Aryanism at the time.

One of my favorite memories was when I was a kid, my father worked as waiter and as a result, he'd come home late. He had to work Christmas eve, and I waited by the window for him. When he did come, he let me steer his truck while he worked the pedals. It's such a great memory.

I've got some great things to say about certain creators I've met in person, who stand above and beyond the rest.
>Scott Snyder
Met him twice now, always chats about any and everything. Sweetest guy
>Mark Buckingham
Just the loveliest. Meeting him makes you want to read everything he's ever done.
>Meghan Hetrick
The loveliest woman, and amazingly talented. Got a really sweet Death commission from her, and when I went to pick it up spent about 45 minutes just shooting the shit (and getting to see some awesome sneak peeks of whats coming in her Red Thorn Vertigo book)

There are others I've met who were great, and others who were kinda dicks, and obviously those who sat in the middle, but as a rule I love meeting creators.

talked about X-Men
when he was leaving I told him Agent Venom was the epitome of 90s edge
he didn't like me after that and left

Mark Millar went in a bar I worked at and was super friendly even though no one knew who he was (but me)

I'll add my own
>Kaare Andrews
Really funny, warm, super cool, clever.

>Ramon Perez
Friendly and humble. Talked to him about Tale of Sand.

>Marco Rudy
As an up and comer, very humble but enthusiastic. Seemed grateful for his opportunities. Got him to sign my New Avengers annual (the Dr. Strange focused issue).

>Leonard Kirk
Acted like someone's dad, in the best ways. Dorky-friendly.

>Jeff Lemire
Seemed stressed/tired when I met him, but he was nonetheless really cool. He drew me a Gus.

>Alex Maleev
A strange dude. Smart, with a "European" sense of humour, but he straight up seems to not love comics-illustration. I forget what it was he originally did before comics, but he said if he could he'd go back to it. Something to do with photography, maybe? Printing? I forget.

>Chrissie Zullo
Sweet and adorable.

Met Ramon Perez myself a couple years back, really nice guy, sketched a mohawk Storm for me but wasn't into being complimented too hard.
Jeff Lemire too, he seemed exhausted when I met him, and wasn't up for a chat, apologised for his quietness and asked if I'd like a sketch. Seemed like a nice enough guy.

>Frazer Irving
Really cheerful guy, easy to chat to, felt like a mate rather than a creator

>Gail Simone
Just so nice, but when you've got fans like many of hers, I suppose you have to build that patience. Loved meeting her

>Tula Lotay
Sweetest woman. Many may not know her but her art is stunning, and she's super friendly

>Scottie Young
He was tired from travelling when I met him, but still took the time to chat with everyone and do a quick sketch.

Only genuinely bad experience I've had was with Kate Leth, but I don't want to vilify her any more than others already do.
>>
>>77942479
I've met Becky, she's really friendly - though she doesn't seem to enjoy drawing all that much these days; she's definitely a writer above being an artist in her mind

Nothing wrong with just describing what happened without undue cruel language or hyperbole
>>
>>77942534
I was wondering what Kate Leth is actually like. I think she's coming to a con I'm going to, thought about checking her booth just to see, but maybe I will pass.
>>
>>77942555
I asked him to choose whoever he wanted to draw, and I got a John Constantine. Which is pretty friggin cool.

>>77942569
Met her a couple months back, queued for about 20 minutes to see her, which is fine, but then when I got to the front I asked her to sign and, if at all possible, sketch in (what happened to be my niece's copy of) an Adventure Time book. Her response was "Sure, I'll sign it, but maybe you're too old and too male for a drawing of Marcy?"
I was kinda dumbstruck to be honest and just let it go at the time, but it's left a sour taste. After the con she tweeted something about PMS making her weird, but it just left me with a bad taste. That said, she seemed super nice to others, so maybe I just caught her at a bad moment.

>Michael Golden
Loved my Shadow cosplay, and signed the Bucky O'Hare trade I bought off him
>Roger Langridge
Quiet man. Didn't say much to me (he WAS drawing a sketch for somebody else at the time) but he signed every one issue of Fred the Clown I bought off him
>Dave Gibbons
Absolutely lovely man, with nothing bad to say about anybody. Has a genuine love for Alan Moore.
>Steve Rude
The man exudes an aura of confidence that's hard to ignore - the first thing I thought when I saw him up close was "This man is at least twice my age... and he could STILL kick my ass." However, talking to him I soon realised he was too nice to even consider such an act. He had nothing but nice things to say about Birmingham (the English one); he loves the architecture, and doesn't mind the bad weather in the slightest (he's from Wisconsin). I gave his daughter a bag of Hula Hoops (the crisps, not the toy) because she looked really bored. She said thank you.

I used to have a screencap of my experience meeting Howard Chaykin... but it seems to have disappeared off the face of the internet. The anecdote's a real doozy, though, so I'll tell you when I've come back from my Christmas shopping

So on Wednesday I received a package and couldn't pick it up until today. It was Superman: Birthright, gift-wrapped and everything. I think it's the same anon who got me the Blue Lantern shirt, or at least the person had the same name, so if you're out there Brian thanks so much! Really excited to read this story. My friend in college kept talking about how great it was as an origin, and I love Supes, so I'm really excited to dive in.

So, once again I feel the need to pay it forward, 29JCHEX8ZLSYR can be knocked off the list.

>PuToTyra
Well, nobody's perfect.
>>
>>77947044

Hey now it's the SIC version, which I think looks really cool. Literally the only thing wrong with Putotyra is the CGI.
>>
>>77947070
SIC PuToTyra I actually don't mind as much, but in general it's my least favorite full color combo. SIC Tajador might be my figure holy grail. I could never justify the cost, especially since I have regular Tajador + Effects, but it's such a beautiful figure. That and regular Blade, which is stupidly expensive, but I managed to snag a Blade King off Mandarake for pretty cheap, so I don't want it quite so badly now.
>>
>>77947233

Oh that's nice, Blade's one of my favorite Rider series, so it's a shame the best form from the show is so pricey.

>least favorite full color combo

I really don't like Shauta or Ratorahta. It's the headpieces more than anything (and the octopus legs for Shauta).

Hello /co/, I'm new here (yeah I started with the CW series and have been gradually getting into comics over the last year and a bit please don't judge me, or do but be nice about it) and figured I had nothing to lose by posting my wishlist? >yeah I started with the CW series

I hoped you've dropped them in favor of watching great cartoons and reading great comics instead.

>if anyone has any recommendations based on the sorts of stuff on my list that might be better, please feel free to throw those recs at me!

Less DC, less superheroes, other publishers and genres exist.
>>
>>77947553
I still watch them, but I do watch and read other stuff too! And I can't get into Marvel, it just doesn't do it for me. I read a few Image books (Black Science, Walking Dead, WicDiv, Deadly Class mostly)
>>
>>77947606
I'll assume you've read fables as well then, if Fairest is in your wishlist?
>>
>>77947606
Don't worry about it. You've got good stuff on there. Enjoy what you like, not what another anon wants you to like. I don't know how many Flash comics you've read, but New 52 Flash is a really good jumping on point. The Manapul/Buccelato run is great and probably has my favorite art of any comic.
>>
>>77947676
Not him but I bought the first volume of N52 Flash. It was pretty average in my opinion. I'm assuming it gets better than?
>>
>>77947712
The writing stays meh for the entire run, it's only worth reading for the art.
>>
>>77947712
It's never the greatest thing ever, but it's fun. And yeah, the art is what really drives it.
>>
>>77947669
Yeah, I've read quite a lot of Vertigo stuff actually - up to date on Hellblazer new editions, all of Sandman, Fables Deluxe Editions up to Vol 9. All really good stuff.

>>77947676
I love the New 52 Flash, that was actually the first comic I picked up since being a kid. Now I feel like it's time to go back into older Flash stuff, and the Geoff Johns stuff seems to come well recommended.
>>
>>77947772
I forgot to mention that I've also read Madame Xanadu, Saga of the Swamp Thing and Wolf Among Us
>>
>>77947606
Comics and cartoons are such huge categories that no matter what you like someone on here will hate you for it. Don't let that stop you from reading whatever you like. If you want to read nothing but Archie comics then do that, if you want to read obscure underground smut from the 70's do that, if you want to read Homestuck and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl do that, and if you want to watch the CW series and read DC comics then don't feel bad about doing that.

You actually just reminded me that I picked up the first issue of that Archie reboot then never went back to it. Maybe I should give that another shot.

But thank you anon, that's really kind of you to say! I'm a DC girl I think though I don't see the appeal of Harley Quinn's New 52 series when everyone else I know irl seems obsessed and I'm okay with that.
>>
>>77947772
There's not much by Geoff Johns I wouldn't recommend. His Flash and Green Lantern runs in particular though.
>>
>>77947770

Gorilla Warfare is the best arc in the run.
>>
>>77947896
Teen Titans? Hawkman? Batman Earth One?
>>
>>77947896
I've read his New 52 Justice League up to the end of Forever Evil, and I read his N52 Lantern, but I haven't had the opportunity to go back to Pre52 with that. Planning on getting the Omnibus eventually though. I'm curious about his Teen Titans too, because I loved the cartoon as a kid, but the New 52 stuff just doesn't groove my truffles.
>>
>>77947910
I really enjoyed the Reverse arc as well (well, I enjoyed the whole run honestly), but yeah Gorilla Warfare is definitely a highlight.
And I just love Patty. Was Patty a major player in the comics Pre-52?
>>
>>77947892
> I don't see the appeal of Harley Quinn's New 52 series when everyone else I know irl seems obsessed
Nobody should be allowed to touch her besides Dini. I want more comics like Mad Love or Harley and Ivy.

Everyone seems to really dislike the Archie reboot but I think its pretty good so far
>>
>>77947772
>>77947772
The entirety of Wally Flash should be read. You get to see him grow, it's consistently good to great, and it's also a great school in comics over time.
>>
>>77947966

Reverse would have been a lot better if Manapul and Buccelatto knew how to pace out an ongoing comic better. The two-page spreads get a little self indulgent at times.

As for Patty I don't know enough about pre-Wally Flash to comment.
>>
>>77947922
point taken. Has there been a good Teen Titans run besides Wolfman and Perez though? I think it might just be a bad team.
>>
>>77947981
Mad Love is so great. And I might give Archie another shot.

>>77947999
I'm interested in Wally, especially after falling in love with the character's Young Justice incarnation; so definitely want to read more Wally. And more JSA, after reading Omnibus 1. Which your name reminded me was so so good
>>
>>77947939
It's really hard to go wrong with Johns if you like the Flash TV show and the old cartoons, because he writes stories like that -- heroes being heroic and doing heroic things. I actually don't love his Flash run like everyone else did, but that's probably because of just how much I loved the Mark Waid run that immediately preceded it. His Green Lantern run is incredible, though.

>>77947999
Man, I just finished reading volume 2 of Flash the other day, which took me most of the year reading off and on. You hit the nail on the end -- it's a strong, fairly consistent story even as the supporting cast changes with the writers, and a really great look into how comics were changing from the late 80's to mid 00's.

>>77948055
Teen Titans Go (the comic that went along with the old animated series)
>>
>>77947939
If you liked the Teen titans cartoon then I would suggest rewatching it and forgetting about the comics entirely. Teen Titans comics are almost universally bad.
>>
>>77948063
Johns Hawkman spins out of JSA and even ends with a crossover, so read those together, you'll get more out of both.

His TT was marked by a lot of editorial dictation, I think.
>>
>>77948114
Let me revise my statement
>>77948092 is right read the Teen Titans Go comic that was based on the original show.
>>
>>77948153
Looks like DC is starting to republish it, too.
http://amzn.com/1401261965

Kinda hard to find on Amazon since there's so much TTG stuff based on the new cartoon.
>>
>>77948092
>>77948153
I didn't even realise Titans Go was a thing other than a slapstick cartoon. Shows what I know, I guess.

>>77948114
I read volume 1 of the Wolfman/Perez trades and thoroughly enjoyed it

>>77948120
I need to pick up the Hawkman omni and more JSA - underappreciated series to the point that a guy at my LCS told me to avoid it because it was "too niche" but I'm really enjoying what I've read.
>>
>>77948297
TT is a cursed comic for a variety of reasons, having sat down and read some later 'Titans' comics to try to figure out why: 1) the toxic pull of nostalgia for Wolfman/Perez, which sold amazingly well and was groundbreaking, but without realizing 2) WHY that original run was good in its time, which leads to 3) endless rehashes of old plots and dragging characters back into roles they'd outgrown, with a heavy dose of 4) misery and random character death. If we weren't imagelimit I'd post that ANOTHER TITAN DIES! cover.

>a guy at my LCS told me to avoid it because it was "too niche"

well he's wrong :(
>>
>>77948297
>LCS employee ever dissuading you from a purchase

doesn't sound like good business practice to me. And fuck him, that JSA series is what got me into the DCU as a whole. I recommend it to everyone because it covers such a huge swath of superhero history and legacy in a way that makes sense and is interesting even if you aren't familiar with that history first-hand already.
>>
Good morning Batboobs how goes the riddle?
>>
>>77948433
That's interesting, actually - kinda makes me want to read more out of morbid curiosity. And don't worry sweet JSAnon, I know he's wrong.

>>77948468
Exactly! It's a great jumping in point to what feels like the depths of the DCU. But Johns always seems to enjoy dragging mythos up for all to enjoy. (e.g. Metal Men in New 52)
>>
>>77948297
The Teen Titans Go comic was never a huge seller or anything, so I expect most people never heard of it. And now the name is just immediately associated with the new cartoon, for better or worse.
>>
>>77948753
Far be it from me to dissuade anyone from their own personal forays into masochism; if you want the real experience of suck, the thing to do is to go ahead and read Johns TT with the knowledge that things like Bart as Kid Flash were mandated, and then keep reading as it turns into Graduation Day and the pits of misery, and then join us tonight as we keep reading Titans: Villains for Hire (old thread: >>77932518). There's some really mediocre stuff from pre-Johns as well, but I don't think it was quite as specifically bad.

THEN, go read Lobdell New 52 TT, and don't skip the crossovers~

Well, I'm back from Christmas shopping - my LCS was all out of the Tiny Titans trades I wanted, so I got her the first Lil Gotham book instead - and I believe I promised you kids a story... a story of what happened when your old uncle Minifig met Howard Chaykin!

Back when I was a younger /co/mrade, there used to be a really neat convention in my area called the Birmingham International Comics Show, or BICS for short. The organisers kept insisting that the 'B' stood for 'British', but we all knew better. Anyway, this convention usually had one big star among its guests, a real legend in his lifetime. It was usually Dave Gibbons, but this particular year they managed to get Howard "American Flagg" Chaykin himself; quite a feather in their cap, as I'm sure you'll all agree.

I was still getting into comics, so I wasn't that au fait with Chaykin's work. I'd read a little American Flagg, some Dominic Fortune, and of course his brief but memorable run on Marvel's first Star Wars comic back in 1977. Still, I'd picked up a copy of MAX Dominic Fortune #1 and I was keen to learn more, so I decided to make sure I attended his panel, "Chinwag With Chaykin".

The day of the convention came, and I made sure to check and double-check the con leaflet detailing the times of the various panels (I noted with some amusement that the panel had been retitled "Shakin' with Chaykin") and managed to find a seat in the hall where the panel would take place.

Nnot long after I chose a seat a young father and his little girl came and sat right behind me. I can still hear the father telling his child that she had to be quiet while the grown-ups on the stage were talking.

I don't know what you were like as a kid, but I'd like to think that at her age (5, 6?) I'd have understood a pretty simple instruction. Therefore, when I tell you that I had to spend most of the panel with my finger stuck in my left ear so I could drown out her constantly whispering to her dad about Spongebob and Patrick...

>>77949004
Help me out, are there any good comic shops in Birmingham besides Forbidden Planet (which isn't even that good) and Nostalgia & Comics?
>>
>>77949004
>Little kids at a Chaykin talk

oh god oh god oh god
>>
>>77949004

hey minifig. you okay where you are? I only ask because the news has been talking about wrath-of-the-gods weather and flooding in some parts out the country and I want you, as well as any other fellow britfags to know you all have my support and I genuinely hope everyone here gets through it okay.
>>
>>77948928
Oh, don't worry, I've read Lobdell's stuff. It was... grinding. [spoilers]Though I did enjoy the Ravagers spin-off to an extent[/spoilers]
And perhaps I should balance the masochism with reading something more indulgently pleasant... like JSA! It all comes full circle.

Brit here, and despite winds that make my house feel like it's about to literally blow away, Wizard of Oz style, I'm surviving well enough! Thanks anon

DC has started printing the paperback versions of Robinson's Starman series too, if you want to nab a preorder of that. If you like John's JSA, you'll love this.
>>
>>77949251
Starman? I shan't lie, I've never actually heard of his solo series before right now, but a quick google suggests that would indeed be right up my alley.

Remember the last time they did that though

... Well, you can understand it if I was in a bit of a temper by the end of the panel, right?

Anyway, after the panel was done Howard went to a desk outside the panel hall to do some signings - the usual thing, as anyone who's been to a comic book convention can attest. I wanted him to sign my copy of MAX Dominic Fortune #1, so naturally I joined the queue.

So did the man and his daughter.

Of course, the little girl got bored and started running around and making a noise. She wasn't really messing with anyone else, she was just annoying. It got to the point where Chaykin himself, without looking up from the books he was signing, said "That's enough." in a clear and unmistakeable tone. She continued, so Chaykin raised his voice a little more: "That's enough!"

The little girl was taken away by a friend of her dad's to some kid-friendly stall. Design A Monster, something like that.

Now, the thing about British comic book conventions is that they're a lot less noisy than American cons. I don't know, I guess we're too polite. Howard noticed this, and started to sing a few verses of "(I'd Like to Get You on a) Slow Boat to China", and even encouraged people to talk to him more. I was about fourth in the queue when I heard him mention to the person at the front how I had no dignity.

See, I love cosplaying, and that year I had gone as The Shadow (very easy to get the stuff together, and you don't get too many funny looks carrying around a bag with a cap and red opera scarf on the train). I'd taken my stuff off when I sat down for the panel, but I put it back while I was queuing, because I'm an eccentric fellow.

Now, what little of the panel I hd managed to hear served as a wonderful portrait into what Chaykin is like as a person; sharp as a tack, blunt as a hammer, he won't take any of your monkeyshine... but he has that ready charm that men and women of a certain age possess, that makes you forgive almost anything.

>>77949355
It's got a huge amount of depth with continuity in a productive way (tying things together, giving characters interesting motivations and backstories, dealing with the idea of living up to a legacy), it has consistently great art wherein the fill-ins are appropriate and well-timed, there's some serious Chekov's Gun wherein stuff in early issues pays off down the line in 60+ issues, and it wraps up in a very satisfying way. Cannot recommend enough.

>>77937862

If they cancel my pre-order of volume 3 again I'm going to murder someone.
>>
>>77949515
That being the case, I was more than willing to take his ribbing of my costume with good humour, even when he continued said ribbing when I was at the front of the queue. I tried to say a few words in my defence through my opera scarf, when he interrupted me and said "Take that damn thing off your mouth when you're talking to me."

I complied, and there followed what I can only describe as a brief, but awkward silence. Even Chaykin seemed a little embarassed at his tone, but the mood was quickly broken when he saw what I'd brought for him to sign. He lifted the comic above his head, so everyone else in the line could see, and said "This is a damn good book!"

I'll admit, I was still feeling a little sore at Howard for snapping at me like that, so when he asked me if I wanted a sketch (the con brochure had a few blank pages for artists to give free sketches), I feigned indifference. He saw through my bullshit, and drew me a quick marker sketch of a scarfless Shadow. I saw the joke, thanked him sincerely for his time, and practically skipped away back to the convention hall. Chaykin had to have the last word, naturally, so he yelled to my retreating form "And get some dignity!"
>>77949137
Not really; the Waterstones that used to be bank has a great comics section, but N&C is your best bet. Are you the Anon who tried to get the Marvel Masterwork "2 for £30" deal I mentioned, and the staff had no idea what you were talking about? Because I'm really sorry they were so shitty to you. You can now get 3 Masterworks trades for £40
>>77949169
Not gonna lie, I was sorely tempted to turn round and hiss at her to be quiet, but I didn't want to miss Chaykin's talk.
>>77949177
The winds are pretty scary to listen to (having the highest bedroom in the house doesn't help) but it's not been life-threatening in my area.
