I want to make a Christmas Specials recommendations list. What holiday specials/movies/episodes does /co/ enjoy watching every year and/or consider to be essentials?
It's been a few years, but I remember liking The Tangerine Bear a lot
I'd rathersing
>>77929591
Watch the Kwanzaa special.
Robbie the Reindeer, especially if you already liked Wallace and Gromit
>>77929661
I don't recall there ever being a Peanuts Kwanzaa special. Or are you talking about something else?
>>77929620
>>77929689
Added these two to my list. Keep the suggestions coming.
I've always loved this Christmas short starring the Betty Boop character, Grampy.

>>77929661
>>77929714
Search it on YouTube
I remember recording Wakko's Wish on Cartoon Network on VHS
Olive the Other Reindeer.
A lot of funny moments and some really good songs.
>>77929714

Annabelle's Wish was comfy af
>>77929829
This was a Christmas movie? Been a long time since I've seen it.
>>77929838
This is definitely one of the more underrated specials I've seen.
>>77929829
It's winter based, but not really Christmas based.
There are two separate Animanics Christmas episodes and a Pinky and the Brain Christmas that are really good.
>>77929932
>>77929934
True, now that I remember it it's more winter than Christmas, but I would still always watch it around Christmastime
Garfield's Christmas. John's Grandma missing her late husband made me feel things.
>>77929934
Wikipedia is telling me that there are four. 'Twas the Day Before Christmas, The 12 Days of Christmas, Noel, and The Christmas Tree. Are all of them worth including in the list?
>>77929991
My favorite Christmas special of all time next to the Grinch.
Winnie the Pooh trying to be Santa so his friends get the presents they asked for. I don't remember what it's called though.
Alright. This is the list I've got so far. Anything else I should add or remove before I start making a prettier version?
>>77930106
There are multiple Winnie the Pooh Christmas specials but I believe the one I have on here is the one you're talking about.
I have very vague memories about the 1998 Rudolph movie. I remember liking it though (Keep in mind I was 4 then and have seen it maybe once since)
>>77929714
They're talking about this nigga

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDDcmKDcX8k
>>77930042
The ones worth watching are 'Twas the Day Before Christmas, A Christmas Plotz and Little Drummer Warners (as pictured above). Also Pinky and the Brian Christmas.
>>77930106
Wait, that's Santa? I thought he'd be taller.
Pretty sure there are more Rankin & Bass you could throw up there but I'm drawing a blank atm.
Also, should BTAS: Christmas With the Joker and JLU: For the Man Who Has Everything count?
Can someone weigh in as to whether or not these are any good?
Batman: The Brave and the Bold “Invasion of the Secret Santas!”
The Venture Bros. – A Very Venture Christmas
A Johnny Bravo Christmas
>>77929620
>The Corduroy Bear
FTFY
>>77929991
wow, garfield actually had a soul once.
>>77929714
You are the motherfuckin' ace of spades, Anon!
>>77929591
My family likes to watch this once a year around Christmas, along with the original Grinch cartoon, Rankin and Bass Rudolph, and The Peanuts Christmas special.
I won't admit to still liking them, except for the Muppets, but I do shy away from the Peanuts cartoon. It's a fine show, but I've just had enough of the Jesus Speech near the end. Not anti-theist, just tired of it.
Hey! Arnold Christmas special should be #1 on your list.
>>77929655
Anon's having Christmas with the superstars
>>77929591
Christmas Comes to Pac-Land.
>>77931121
"For the Man Who Has Everything" isn't Christmas related.
"Comfort and Joy" however is a Christmas Justice League episode.
Bow Down
Bow Down
Before the power of Santa
Or be crushed
be crushed
By
His jolly boots of doom.
No love for Arthur Christmas? It's one of my personal favourites. The story isn't anything too special, but the characters and scenery are great. I don't hear it mentioned too often - I guess because Rise of The Guardians came out at the same time.
>>77931823
Better version of that image
Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire
Marge Be Not Proud
Miracle on Evergreen Terrace
Tis the Fifthteenth Season
Simpsons Christmas Stories
>>77931866
No!
OP here. Here's an updated list. I'm about to start working on a proper version with images and whatnot. Feel free to continue leaving suggestions if anyone has anymore.
>>77929991
nice taste. This and traditional charlie brown christmas.
>>77932134
you should add this:
>Tfw im the only one who watched this
by Rankin-Bass, it revolves around a clockmaker's new invention to bring santa to town, and a tiny mouse family and their genius inventor son saves christmas (after a certain someone fucks it all up). it's pretty heartwarming and my family always watches it
>"You may know yer al-gee-brees, son..."
>>77929591
faggot
>>77929591
>I want to make a Christmas Specials recommendations list.
Pretty sure we already have one.
>>77932134
You gotta add "How Murray Saved Christmas." I made a thread about this movie when it aired last year, but it went right under /co/'s radar. An absolute must-see, the humor is very Seinfeld!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltdg_4kz-RM
Alright /co/. Tell me how this looks for a start.
>>77932819
The only one I've seen was really crappy looking and had a lot of good specials missing from it. I think we could use a new one.
>>77932819
>>77929591
>>77933075
I'm no artist, but that text colour with that background colour makes me want to vomit.
>>77933075
I agree with >>77933141. There is way too much contrast between the green and red. The format looks pretty good.
Does a stream exist which just shows christmas movies? I think that would be nice
>>77933141
>>77933162
Yeah, I agree. It looks really gaudy. Does white text look any better?
I also made it a bit wider.
>>77933349
Yeah, that's much better! I'd personally changed the background to something "flatter" too, but that's just nitpicking.
>>77933162
I actually am an artist, it's bad
>50+ posts and no mention of Year Without a Santa Claus
I particularly look forward to that one every year.
Also, I've always been fond of A Lost Claus from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.even if I only just now, while writing this post, realized the name was a pun
>>77933075
I don't think it's crappy, I literally did the exact same thing OP is doing and made a list from others suggestions.
>>77933349
id put the year after every title just for consistency
santa dont want no half assed shit for the children
>>77931623
The Jim Carrey Christmas Carol was shockingly good.
The only bad part was the pointless Ghost of Christmas Future carriage chase.
The amazing opening more than made up for it though, as was actually showing Ignorance and Want (which all kids versions normally skip).
Okay. I think I've got something that looks somewhat decent here. Gonna start working on getting all the other specials on there now.
>>77933475
Maybe crappy was too strong of a word. I just don't really dig the list against a black background. Other recommendation lists I've seen on 4chan have images on them like this one does.
>>77933732
I mainly did to differentiate certain versions of specials since there's going to be two Rudolphs on the list for example. But having the year after everything does sound like a good idea so I'll do that.
>>77933952
I just went off what the majority on comraderecs looked like.
The chase scene with Princess was GOAT and the Permanent Naughty List always makes me kek
It's dark as fuck but King of the Hill's "Pretty, Pretty Dresses" is one of the best episodes of the show. Really more of a mental breakdown episode with Christmas as a backdrop, but worth watching and still funny.
>>77933952
Idea;
at the very very bottom of the list, after you've put on everything good, add a "Naughty List" section, with the only thing on it beingGrandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
Progress. If the thread dies before I finish, I'll make a new thread tomorrow.
You spelled Recommendations wrong. Proofreading ftw, anon.
>>77935340
Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out.
Yo I got you senpai.
How could you ignore Santa's origin story?
I used to love this one as a kid.
>>77929591
"How Long Is Forever" is one of the best holiday specials I've ever seen and is one of my very favorite cartoon episodes in general. Technically they celebrate Blorthog but it's basically Starfire's version of Christmas. It's got a good message about friendship/family in there too.
>>77934764
Looks good. Excited to see the finished product.
Okay. Here it is. I'm gonna keep an eye on the thread incase anyone finds any errors or more suggestions are made.
>>77937416
I think Hillenium from King of the Hill season four deserves a place if you can have more than one from a series.
>>77937416
I'd say both adaptations of The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus should be on the list, as should be Christmas With The Joker from Batman: The Animated Series, and I believe there's a Christmas themed episode of The Real Ghostbusters that also should be on there(can't remember if Gargoyles had one or not at the moment)
>>77937524
Added the Futurama X-Mas episode as well. Just remembered about that one.
>>77938090
There's two versions of Life & Adventures of Santa? Fuck. I'll go double check that. Christmas With the Joker is already on there.
So I made a fuckup with Life and Adventures of Santa. I used an image from the 2000 version and captioned it as being the 1985 version. I now have both versions on there and each one has the correct year. Also added that Ghostbusters episode.
I'm going to go back to this tomorrow and fix up the order these specials are listed on here since a few of them were just slapped in there while I was in the middle of it.
>>77938424
Also, if anyone has a better image to use for any particular special, feel free to share it. The majority of these pics came from Google images and I'm sure some of them could be better.
>>77936529
>that snowed in desolate Jump City
Damn.
My Christmas shows tradition is thus:
A Christmas Carol
Die Hard
Scrooged
I dont care, I love this show.
>>77929838
Fuck yes. Michael Stipe reindeer!
The Snowman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubeVUnGQOIk
>>77932876
I watched this when it aired but totally forgot about it. Time to rematch.
>>77938810
Its objectively better than it should be. It was one of my favorite cartoons they kept playing on the Disney channel back in the early 90s.
>ctrl+f "Timmy's Gift"
Well, I can't expect everyone to have been raised Southern Baptist drowning in Precious Moments memorabilia. It's an interesting take on the Christian telling of Christmas as it does not mention God or Jesus by name or what any of the religion means. Just a little angel delivering a crown to their new king.
>ctrl+f "The Nutcracker"
NOW I'm disappointed.

this one is great, but i dont think ive ever seen it on tv
which is a shame

>>77945318
I remember watching a movie that sounds similar, I think The Littlest Angel had a plot kind of like that.
>>77945591
It's already on the list. That's why nobody's mentioned it.
KND had a really good one
>>77938810
>>77941687
>>77945318
>>77947845
OP here. I will add these the next time I update the list. Got a few other tweaks I want to make.
No Snowflake Day suggested yet?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=665PDdvzJX4
I love the idea about having a "Naughty List" or "Lump of Coal" like one anon mentioned, with terrible ones like Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer or Rapsittie Kids.
>>77948553
>Jerky Balls II
When this show hit the mark, it was fucking gold
>>77948553
Should Christmas Comes to Pac-Land be on this Naughty List or is that a genuinely good special? I've never seen it so I wouldn't know.
Unless people come up with more horrible specials for the naughty list, I think this is good enough to be a final list.
>>77950897
Here's a better picture for the Clone High box, anon.
>>77950967
>>77951080
Fuck. Forgot to crop off the bottom.
>>77951143
Looking great so far!
Has this one been posted yet? I know OF it, but I've never watched it myself so I don't know if it should go on the Naughty list.
>>77951143
Low tidings day from flapjack. Favorite chrisymas special back in the day.
I dont know if any one else has even heard of these, but; Christmas in Cartoon Town (aka the night before christmas in cartoon town) and the 12 days of christmas cartoon
>>77951957
>dat blatant Talespin ripoff
>>77952022
jesus christ, i only noticed this now
>>77951143
I'm coming in a bit late with a formatting suggestion but personally I'd go with a simpler serif font for the title and date of each film to improve readability, especially given that the background is already pretty busy all by itself.
>>77951143
thanks a lot anon

Have you guys talked about this one yet?
hey OP, know your list is getting unwieldy but this one is a great addition

>>77929591
May I recommend Recess Christmas Miracle on Third Street?
y'all need to do better, there's no mention of either of the Beavis & Butthead Christmas specials here?
>>77951957
Ohh I remember 12 Days of Christmas - the Noel Christmas special from 1992 was a big favorite in my household too.
I think it was back in the 90's that Cartoon Network used to show the 1939 short "Peace on Earth." Pretty good stuff.
