No telling how WBY would have turned out, but P would likely not have a partner she could get attached to.
WBY have too few variables changed that aren't left wide open. It's entirely feasible for someone to come along and fill mostly the same niche as Ruby.

Is it fun? Aslong as I'm having fun with a system the mechanics can be as good or as shit as they like.

Weapon: "Maginot Lily"
A huge shield (standing normally, Ruby could hide completely behind it) made up of two halves, each one being able to transform into a cleaver-like sword and a flat launcher for lily-shaped buzzsaw-blades

Personality: Extroverted and loud, always the first for anything, doesn't wait for answers to questions and just assumes a lot about other people (which usually leads to some trouble)
History: Was bullied a lot for being so tall, then got a lot of punishment for beating up some classmates, then got more punishment for beating up a teacher, got kicked out of three combat schools before finding her match at Signal, when she tried to beat up some teacher (who we probably all know) but got beaten up herself instead.

Dislikes: Authorities, that she's so tall, soups They're the food for the WEAK!
Funfact: "Folly" is both a name for the shade of red and an accurate description of what the Maginot Line was.

As for a verbal language, I don't see their own, but I can see a thieves cant, polari, or cockney rhyming slang. Something that lets them speak freely. Their poetry is probably even worse.

/sp/ here why do they even limit the number of contestants after each round anyways? You're basically cutting the field in quarters every round for no good reason. If you really want a mix-sized tournament that badly, split the winning team into two pairs and have them both go forward in the tournament, and likewise with the singles rounds. Seems unnecessarily constraining for the premier tournament of its kind, especially when most rounds are going to end up as singles anyways due to number of entrants.

In all honesty though, plot reasons aside it would have been more insteresting to make them 3 separate tournament types that allow you to compete in each, so that the audience gets to see top-tier team and pair battles near the end too and not just singles. Being able to win it all as a team, as a pair, and by yourself would all present different tactical challenges and show different lights on the competitiors' strengths.

Fighting one to one is just a show of skill.

Exactly what I mean, each type of combat has its own unique nuances, so it's dumb to boil them down by clumping them together into one all-inclusive format.

By having a separate tournament bracket for each kind, you can fully showcase the upsides of each of them to their fullest. Relegating team matches to just the first round sends the message that teams are kind of a shit idea anyways. From a spectator's point of view, they wouldn't get nearly as many awesome team matches either because the odds that all the first round matches are between evenly matched teams is relatively low.

If you separate each type of format into its own competition, you get to have tough battles of each kind all the way to the end, and you can distinguish yourself by advancing as far as you can in each one. It's not like over-injury is a risk here since the festival takes place over a time span long enough to allow aura to regenerate anyways, and because of aura you won't suffer from combat injuries.

I can (sort of) get why they did it for shoddy plot reasons, but it's irksome.

so I finally figured out what the problem with the episode I downloaded from the mega in the OP pastebin is: my computer JUST CAN'T handle 1080p, no matter the settings or video player. the video and audio are basically at different rates, so offsetting them doesn't help because it just lags behind again a couple seconds later.

shame, because I really wanted to watch episode 4 before the weekend when I won't be here. extracting from the youtube channel seems to work perfectly fine, but for some reason they have the ep 4 preview, the huntsman video, and the ep 5 preview but not the actual ep 4. weird, and a bit upsetting.
