It varies. But pale skin and dark hair and clothes is good enough for some. Just a general spooky kind of vibe. Irl goths are not the same as cartoon "goths."

It's just a matter of aesthetics and kind of a mindset towards honing them. You can be an ordinary black dressing goth, or a colorful bubbly pastel goth, steampunk, cyber, even a pretty pixie princess goth.

But the moment you star shaving half your head ugly and throw those aesthetics out the window or cutting you come off as kinda emo.
