Don't get too excited. It's a crowd funded thing and he's asking for 3 million.

He'll probably get three times that and release the game in 2 incomplete chunks after blowing it on another Phil Fish DJ party.
>>
After that debacle of their last crowd-funded game, I wouldn't give Double Fine one red cent. EA was right about him. He blows budgets and under-delivers.

>Tim asking for $3.3 in crowdfunding money because "lol remember our failure of a Kickstarter"

Schafer's trying to make a Psychonauts 2? Damn! I'm sure they're flipping shit over in /v/ about this.

Who knows? Capcom has probably noticed our demands for a proper Mega Man game after Mighty no. 9 did so well on Kickstarter, and seeing as how they've fully embraced doing remakes and remasters (see: Resident Evil), I wouldn't be surprised if we get more Mega Man remakes.

For example, maybe Mega Man X: The X Collection. X1-X8 on all major consoles and PC.

Remember that time Terry Gilliam hyped up his movie while raising the budget as planned, then he made only half of it? I picked up the game for ten bucks last year at a second hand game shop and I love that shit. I didn't go in expecting anything in particular but it appeals to my humor and the world is like a giant Metalocalypse music video. Sometimes I just turn it on and cruise around just to listen to the soundtrack.

I still haven't beaten the game though, short as it is. I always get stuck at the fucking jungle bit with the 'make a circle of fire around the Kiss lions' bit and then end up restarting when I come back to it.

It will be a film series with many installments.
>>
>>77916058
You know, the problem I had with the campaign in BL is that once it introduced the RTS levels, that's all it was from that point to the end of the game. It totally glossed over two beautiful continents you could have had the chance to explore and get more lore and characters and side-stories. But the second half of the game was horribly starved for content. And you couldn't initiate RTS battles outside of the story ones, which kind of sucked, since I feel like I barely ever got a handle on the mechanics at all, and the MP was always too dead to get any games going. The game really just needed a lot more content and continue expanding on it, because it was a really cool, creative world that was fun to be in. There simply wasn't enough to fill the open-world setting at all.

Notch made a tweet about wanting to fund Psychonauts 2, but then it turned out he didn't have enough to find it solely by himself, and also DoubleFine was doing the Broken Age kickstarter at the same time.

The 3.3 million they're asking for from fans isn't even enough to fund the game(The original cost them 10 million to make), they also have an external investor.(maybe Notch?)
>>
>>77916255
Oh right
Because movies that are split up into multiple installments are usually SUPER GOOD
and Ghibli is known for making sequels, trilogies, and film series

This is just a shit idea produced by low power level fans who are basically asking people to shovel out the equivalent of shitty fanfiction or those deathbattle videos
>>
>>77916233
obviously it would have its own unique feel and pacing. it wouldnt try to adapt anything that's for sure.. except maaaaybe some of the backstory bits that dont make a good game.. like when ganon came back and link was dead / in termina and wasnt there to save them, and they all got flooded.. wait that isnt much of an ending, they all go on to get killed by the moron king undoing all of link and the goddess' plans. uhh.. OKAY, howbout the backstory of skyward sword. The VERY first link, that savage hero that helped hylia bury demise under a spike. That'd make a terrible game but a fantastic movie

otherwise yeah a movie is only gonna have time for one, maybe two dungeons.. unless theyre REALLY montagey, kinda Tales of Symphonia OVA style
>>
>>77916296

>>77916252
you are not hearing me
yes, i get that this act is weird. especially since in the past he has insisted it would be impossible
what i'm saying is
in the interim years, you know, those times when this kickstarter was NOT happening, surely he was writing the sequel all that time. because that's what you do. not writing it out in a way that a game studio could actually use, but as a story in his notes and in his head.
>>
>>77916244

The last 2 kickstarter games.
The first one (Double fine adventure aka Broken age) he spent a huge portion of the money on parties with celebrities. He also spent most of the budget on celebrity voice acting even though it made no sense (A normal voice actor would have been just as good) so he could have said parties with the celebrities. This lead to the game being horribly cut and shallow.
2. He raised money for another game that he simply never released and never refunded the people the money to and admits he never will finish it.

Fuck him.

will never fucking happen. Go help kickstart Red Ash if you want (I did even knowing it won't and can't be the same), but Capcom basically shut all that down despite everyone's protests. They'll never do anything with Megaman ever again besides cameos, licensed crossovers like Smash, and shit that requires as little actual programming from them as possible, since they keep chasing away all their in-house talent.

Just once I'd like to see a cartoon with robots in it that isn't about phoney teen romance and love and friendship and all that hokey garbage being pushed by Xenoblade and Gundam and Eureka Seven and Evangelion.

Forget.

That.

We need a new mech cartoon based on Chromehounds, Metal Wolf Chaos, Mechwarrior, Armored Core, Steel Strider, Assault Suit Valken, etc. And it should have the feeling of Megas XLR where romance didn't really matter, and it was just about friends hanging out and doing stuff.

>>77917885
That's what it is on a base level but a lot of therapists still examine people's dreams because it can reveal shit to you that you would either file away or not realize unless it was flung in your face. People who have nightmares every other night often have underlying problems in their life or thoughts. Nightmares can very well be a serious psychological thing on both level and also people who have really terrible ones too often can sometimes deprive themselves of sleep so they won't have to lay down with the fear of having the nightmare, be kept awake all night anyways by their anxiety which only makes the situation worse, have a really terrible nightmare again, then wake up and feel like shit for the rest of the day.

I'm a die hard fan of the original Spyro trilogy, and I've spent a lot of time thinking about whether or not a classic Spyro game could work in the modern day, if it would be possible to expand upon the classic formula without changing it at a core level. One of the reasons why Insomniac left the series is because they felt they had done all they could with Spyro.

But when Insomniac said that back at the end of the fifth generation. We don't have to worry about the technological limitations of the PS1 or even the PS2 anymore. I think one of the keys to make a modern Spyro game work would be instead of having to hop from portal to portal and balloon to balloon to reach different levels and worlds, you could just have Spyro be in one enormous and seamless area. Sort of similar to Naughty Dog's Jak & Daxter, but on a much grander scale. Imagine how much stuff they could put in such large worlds and the distances Spyro could glide and supercharge.

>okay, why?
Konami owns MGS, so they can do whatever they want with it, and whatever happens to it. They also hate Kojima because he spends too much time and money on his projects, but delivers when given a fair chance. And also because he wanted to end the series, which is the only thing that Konami is known for these days. So they've used their fenomenal corporate powers to shit on him.

Then again FNAF is incredibly low-key in terms of resources compared to most indie games. There's maybe five rooms to model per game, about as many characters, little to no music (and what is there is mostly music box renditions of public domain stuff) and only one character to voice.

Not really. If you go back and play any old Sonic the Hedgehog, especially the first, Sonic isn't all that fast by himself. He accelerates like a dump truck when you're not relying on spin dash all the time, but he has real momentum. Freedom Planet's characters can hit full speed or full stop almost instantly, it doesn't feel the same (which is fine; if I wanted to play an old sonic game, I'd fire up an emulator again). I guess it's a bit more like Rocket Knight Adventures, especially playing the dragon, but it's just kinda its own thing.

I think Gamergate was just a bunch of things that were simmering in the pot that only came to a boil with the Zoe Quinn stuff and essentially everyone trying to quit any discussion of it, whether it was wrong or not. Then a bunch of people that got tired of a certain influence on the gaming industry decided to try and actually start a movement about it while the iron was still hot and it kept getting traction because the certain element also kept the controversy because they felt they could profit off of it with sympathy bux (which other than Sarkessian who was already a cash cow at that point didn't really seem to pan out all that much). The revelation of shit like GameJournoPros and other such nonsense actually gave Gamergate a bit of justification so it kept rolling along, picking up more people along the way.

I've made it clear I don't wish to educate myself on the circumstances of the issue, forcing the facts on me is kind of like quoting someone to directly spoil a movie for them when they wish to be ignorant.

I'd rather be blissfully unaware about the "he-said-she-said" of it all.

Eh, that's an acceptable position. Even when I supported Gamergate I never tried to bother people if they didn't care.

Yes, but Nick said flat out they're making this movie for 6-11 year olds and not the adults. This is supposed to be a set up for a new show, and he has to write it so the kids 'won't be left behind' on what's going on.

If you're going to set up a new series, you have to go back to status quo. So probably no Arnold confession like 99% of the people wanting the Jungle Movie were campaigning for.

>Cartoon Cartoons and Nicktoons are coming back
>But they are shit now and have none of their original crews
They are? I'm out of the loop. What's on the board aside from the mentioned Hey Arnold?
From my understanding Samurai Jack is going to air on toonami and it's original creator (of dexters lab too) genndy tartakovsky is returning for it, so don't mean that one right?

>Hi guys! It's me, Tim Schafer!
>Remember when I made fun, interesting, challenging games 30 years ago? And then I got into crowdfunding and scalped the only people who really knew I existed out of their money with games like Broken Age, Space Base DF-9, and Happy Action Theater?

>Well now I want to ruin the only good game I've produced in 15 years. Give me your money, and I'll promise to give you two hours of content and spend the rest on a shit documentary about how hard it was.

Hey but dude Grim Fandango was good

>Don't get too excited. It's a crowd funded thing and he's asking for 3 million.

He's actually asking for 10+ million.
>Yes, we do need more than that, as we've previously said we need to raise at least the same amount that went into making the original Psychonauts, which had a budget in the $10-13.5m range. In order to do that, we need to gather money from multiple sources.
>>
>>77943551
That sounds like the 10 mil figure includes funding from multiple sources, I don't think that's what he's asking for through crowdfunding, is it?

What was wrong with Massive Chalice?
>>
>>77943468
But Broken Age was good. I thought the documentary alone was worth my pledge. And HAT was a game he made for his 2 year old daughter to play.

Overwatch... well, at least Activision Blizzard thinks so, since they'r basically making one.

How do you think this one will turn out, guys?
I'm especially puzzled as the little lore there is to those characters of theirs leaves a lot to be desired even if the game looks fun to play.
>>
>>77943566
It's essentially saying he expects the crowdfund to land him at least that much dosh and in case it doesn't, he has that note to refer to in his defense as to why it's not what people'd hoped it would be.
>>
>>77943606
the backer rewards didn't include an actual massive chalice

Holy fuck Winston is moe
>>
>>77943632
It's saying the exact opposite. That they definitely can't raise that from one source.
>>
>>77943566
From what I've seen, crowd funding isn't always entirely funded by its own results. Sometimes they basically make bets with companies.
>if you can get this much money, we'll give you the rest because it proves there's profit to be had in this project
>>
>>77943616
well, the shorts are probably going to flesh out the characters and set up the lore.
like TF2's "meet the" videos
>>
>>77943668
I'm aware that often happens.
I'm just pointing out the
>Don't get too excited. It's a crowd funded thing and he's asking for 3 million.
>He's actually asking for 10+ million.
is actually misleading and not a proper correction, as he's not asking this from the crowdfunding campaign directly.
>>
>>77920769
It's a really bad sonic clone, anon. Like, the physics are fucked.
>>
>>77943685
I do believe so as well but at the same time, Meet The vids were all real-time rendered shorts which had to cover a total of 9 characters and the first few ones were really nothing more than slightly more interesting trailers for the game.

This here needs to flesh out 21 characters, all done in professional pre-rendered fashion.
So they could take a few different approaches to the matter (Winston's introduction will probably be Winston only but those two Japs can have a joint video, etc.) and it's pretty interesting to wait and see what they'd come up with.

1.7 million is actually a reasonable success
>>
>>77943843
Actually may be, but more than 10 years ago was not, since were higher standards and lower piracy

Anything over a million is considered to be a success. Only the massive names like mario and GTA and a few other surprise successes ever reach something over 10M, and even then it's not a guarantee
