It's possible - and hear me out - that she was the best actress for the job who auditioned. Producers don't just get their pics because they're Warner, and actresses don't just get parts for looking a certain way. Only the based porn industry works anywhere remotely that way.

It's very possible the producer had a list of actresses in mind for the role, but none of them wanted to do it or has time to do the role. So then they cast auditions and they liked what they saw in Gadot, or maybe the director or F&F put in a good word, or people in the Hollywood circles knows she's an okay actress who is easy to deal with.

It's also very possible that with the budget going nuts with this bevy of famous talent that they wanted somebody relatively untested for the role to keep costs in line.

That said, despite wonder woman being an A-List hero, she's not high stakes/high priority for Warner. Getting the most famous actress might not be a good move. The trend these days is to get low risk actors they can build a series on. High payout for low risk on untested titles.

Gadot is by far the worst thing the recent trailer. You don't need to be A++ with a distinction when it comes to acting to play your average superhero, but when you see her standing next to Affleck and Cavill (who, likeable as they are, are not even the best actors - especially Cavill, who is a complete amateur), you realize just how poor an actress she is. Her poise, her expression, her delivery, it's all incredibly cringeworthy. Nothing about her is believable.

I don't care about how skinny she is, as WW has never been ripped mclargehuge (though she could stand to be a bit more robust; pretty sure my tiny Asian girlfriend could throw her around a bit as she is in OP's picture), she's just an extremely sub-par actor. Whoever got cast, was always going to get backlash from fan boys from not being "muh wondie." This is the 2nd live-action Wonder Woman, and she's almost the same age as Batman and Superman who have had more than 5 iterations each on the big screen.

People don't even know what a live action Wonder Woman is meant to look like, other than Lynda Carter, and if we're going by proportions then Batman and Superman should look way bigger on the big screen compared to the roid masters they appear to be in the actual comics.

In fact, they hire people specifically to prevent that kind of shit, because it's risking hundreds of millions of dollars of other people's money to get the same effect as jacking it in your tiny trailer. Besides which, you don't do one audition to like one guy (or group of guys, we all know you're going to say it) one time and get this kind of part. You get one audition after another until everybody is sure you can do the job. Sometimes they are wrong, sometimes they are right but you just don't put the effort in on set, sometimes they are right and you do put the effort in but the editing fucks up and your best moments get lost in the shuffle, months after all the sets were struck.

What tends to happen is that people *say* "I can totally see you in this part HINT HINT" and then after they get what they want - five minutes in a closet with a spooky skeleton, or whatever - they have no reason to call. You can't sign a contract in semen. Except if you're OSS, but they disbanded.

The other reason (that you missed) is that she may have the same agency/management as one of the other stars. Block booking is good for agencies/managers (which are technically supposed to be separate entities), and it solves a lot of headaches for productions because it can work out cheaper for a number of reasons.

In the very rare instances I can think of, it's been because someone is literally sleeping with the director (but also has fans and can carry a scene, such as Mrs Burton) or someone else on the productions they work on. Sometimes even after these relationships end (and we are talking relationships, not casual sex), the individuals continue to work together, sometimes they don't. That's really down to circumstance and personalities.

That's not really the same thing people mean when they talk about "the casting couch", though.

On the other hand, the military pulled their support for Marvel since SHIELD doesn't answer to the US president, which is why from Thor on all their movies have tons of Honda cars and no real military stuff in them.
