Example; Batman was always very tall (6'1") but he was also very lean (210lbs) and is actually a few inches shorter then Superman (who is 6'5").
I have a friend who's about 3lbs away from Batman's official weight and height, and though he has very broad shoulders his overall body is fairly lean for his size.

Then you get Jim Lee who draws every male literally exactly the same.

Seriously, editors at Marvel and DC have literally completely stopped doing their jobs in favor of pretending they are some kind of "OverWriter" who scripts massive shitty events every year to desperately temporarily boost flagging sales.

Before that an editor's job was to correct spelling errors, fix continuity issues and ensure writers paid attention to them, and correct artists.
This is why now you get shit like AvX's atrocious art problems passing the grade and being shipped out.

Wolverine originally was kind of a joke. He was a guy with a bad attitude who kept picking fights he could never win and getting blown the fuck out on pretty much every occasion.
Eventually, he started actually getting stuff done and he started to get more focus as the bad-ass former undercover murder machine. Then people started liking him and ever since he has been on a journey to become increasingly flawless to wank his fans.
"Yeah, I killed more people than the attack on Hiroshima, but none of them mattered. Hey Steve, when's the next Avengers mission?"
So eventually his popularity and forced importance made people think it'd be inappropriate to weigh him down with making him ridiculously small too.
Huge Actman didn't help, getting him perfectly down personality wise, but also being like twice his actual size.
