What Hal felt while possessed by Parallax is iffy, some things point to him being semi conscious but his actions heavily influenced by Parallax without his realization (such as him being completely unaware even as the specter of something hijacking his body unlike how Kyle was inside his mind room) while others point to a normal possession like in other cases of parallax controlling people during Johns' run.

I rationalize it as Parallax not forcefully controlling Hal before Rebirth because maybe he'd fight back harder if he knew it existed. But after it gained enough power and was trying to enact its plan it went all out to subdue Hal.
