I like Mark Millar's work and think that he's a decent human being.
I think that all capeshit flicks are boring and awkward as fuck, and superhero action cannot be translated to the film medium.
>>
Tumblr is the worst thing to happen to comics, many of the tumblrites don't read them.

I love Jack Kirby's work, but his male faces have always been off and his storytelling is a little hamfisted.

Because of Flex Mentallo, I stopped being depressed. I thank Grant Morrison for that.

I've enjoyed everything the MCU has put out so far (except the tie-in comics because I've not read them).

The Dark Knight Returns and Killing Joke will both always be the most overrated Batman stories to ever exist. It's not that I don't like them, but there are other stories that better than both of them and very under-appreciated.

Man of Steel is not bad, but it's not great either.

Bendis was good, his Ultimate Spider-Man and Daredevil were pretty good. He's shit now though.

All of the comic ages (Golden, Silver, Bronze, Dark, Iron and Modern) have all contributed something great to comics, as much as hipsters like to disagree

It's a good thing that homosexuality is being explored more in comics/cartoons. I hope it helps a lot of gay children come to terms with themselves. Obviously I want good stories about homosexuality, not gay characters where that's their only asset. Having had a coming-out experience for something else, I understand how hard it is for children who are different.

Over the Garden Wall, in spite of God-tier animation/music, has ungodly annoying protagonists, and this significantly brings down my appreciation for it.

Persepolis and Maus are the extent of my knowledge on comics.

Gravity Falls has the single most enduring sibling relationship in any form of media I've ever read/watched/played. On that note:

Mabel did literally nothing (morally) wrong (without hypnosis)

Tumblr literally isn't a problem. If they buy comics, companies will continue to pander to them. If they don't buy comics, companies will stop.

I wish I had born later, where internet art communities are more easily accessible (or exist at all) and a good quality digitizer can be bought for ~$40, but I'm terrified of said art communities' witchhunts and the fact that the stupid things kids do can now be spread wide and recorded forever.

I've been disappointed with comics since the end of the 20 issue, weekly run of Wolverines earlier this year. That was a wonderful cadence, and the Fang arc was great.
>>
>>77902676
I honestly love it when cartoons and comics have representation of minority groups. As a kid, I've always remembered that one episode of The Proud Family where Penny lives with a Muslim family. I was fucking ecstatic when that ep aired. I wish we had more Muslim characters on TV, but with the whole ISIS clusterfuck going on, it's unlikely.

However, I can't stand Tumblr-levels of representation, like what Marvel has been doing as of late.
>>
>>77902676
Not even Darkseid War Green Lantern?
>>
MCU movies are good. They only are hated because they are popular.

They succeed in being entertaining, humorous to the masses, and hold a good amount of action. We see a fatigue in reviewers to seeing the same thing repeatedly, it's not like the movies are immune to criticism, but it's ridiculous to see people say capeshit is some worthless genre cause you would never see the same people say it for Die Hard or Indiana Jones.
>>
>>77904079
That's how capitalism works,
I think the future of comics is in the webcomic media: that's where the independent market will flourish and people will support their favorite writers by means of buying their merchandising, sponsoring their patreon or others.
This includes better quality porn comics

I liked Iron Man 3's Mandarin. Yes, it wasn't the real Mandarin, but I'm glad the movie took a risk instead of sticking to just "modernizing" older stories.

I always thought Firefly was shit.

I think the Remender's Uncanny Avengers was fun once it got off Earth.

I don't understand what's wrong with adding gay characters. Whenever a person complains about a gay character it's always "They're TOO GAY", which makes no fucking sense. Are you suppose to have a gay character and just never ever show them with the same sex ever?

I don't think Nintendo should license comics despite everyone's hard-on for a Metroid comic and/or a Star Fox comic.

Trades should come out faster.

I don't think Squirrel Girl has ugly art.

On top of that, house styles are fucking awful.

I'm not excited for the new season of Samurai Jack at all
In fact it's a little sad that Genndy has to go back to an old IP instead of working on that one dream project he always wanted to do (can't remember what it was called, though)
>>
>>77904503
She's good protagonist or you only want to fuck her?

I never liked Samurai Jack to begin with.
Bland action in incoherent world.
What makes people like it?
Because it's not character (Those are flatter than a pancake) nor action (Which is always the same single cut and exploding robots) nor lore (Which is absent) nor clever writing (Basically buildup to a single cut, always the same).
>>

Samurai Jack and Symbionic Titan are pretty iffy series because Genndy never learned how to a progress a basic story and develop a setting in a consistent pace.

SJ recieved 4 seasons and Sym Bionic Titan recieved 20 episodes. For all the good stuff those shows did, half of their runtimes given to them was squandered on Hanna Barbera antics and needless High School drama. A lot of other shows could only WISH to have that much episodes to use, both then and now.

The new Samurai Jack crew better have learned to plan things out better, or else they'll be repeating history.
>>
>>77905585
Can we talk about authors? I mean they aren't comics or cartoons.
>>
I didn't like the Peabody and Sherman movie.
>>
>>77905595
I couldn't progress beyond second episode of Titan because of how childish it was for its themes and tone and I couldn't shake feel that I've seen this show before and I liked it much more when it was called Full Metal Panic!
>>
>>77905600
If it's about the authors comics or cartoons then I don't see why not. For example, Stephen King has written comics but his books aren't /co/ related.
>>
>>77905653
So we can talk about things that aren't comics and cartoons as long as they are related to comics and cartoons right?
>>
>>77905683
I draw the line at directly related, so talking about the popularity of MCU movies isn't really anything to do with comics but talking about them as adaptions is.
>>
I don't care that tumblr is being pandered towards. Trying something new isn't bad, as the new ms.marvel proves this.
>>
>>77905595
>SJ recieved 4 seasons
Huh, I never even noticed. The only three episodes that stuck in my mind where the one with the midgets that had hijacked a town of giants (I think it was like that), the one with the blind archers and the one with the pestilent dragon.

Really, the only reason I ought to be excited by Samurai Jack's revival is that it hopefully, HOPEFULLY, might effect a revival of action, serialized cartoons alongside with it. But I don't count on it.

Speaking of this, anyone else annoyed by how they used the same type of action for SJ and SBT that they used for PPG and Dexter's Lab? That stilted, stiff movement wasn't really fun to watch for more serious action shows. The only show they put in more fluid movement and action was the Clone Wars series.
>>
>>77905780
It's amazing you remember even this. Jack really has only one way to solve any conflict and only one skill - it is to cut things in half with his sword. The only problem he ever encounters is the one that inconvinience him at cutting things in half which he usually resolves by channelling cultural memory of generations of Japanese feudal warlords that gives him strength to cut in half the thing that he previously couldn't cut in half.
>>
>>77905755
It's 90% a boogeyman, really. Every decade new trends show up in comics, most of them doesn't really stick for longer - a good example are all the forgotten 90s characters, or, say, a lot of 60s sci-fi ones that are nowhere to be found. People are blowing shit out of proportion to have an imaginary enemy to fight against (either the sjw boogeyman or some unimaginable force bent on destroying all progress in comics ever), which leads to views being radicalized on both sides and nothing much in terms of productivity. It's true the current trend brought us a lot of awful books, but it's not like it wasn't the same with any decade before, the bad ones are simply usually forgotten after a while, so in 10 or 20 years it'll likely be the case of some of those that /co/ goes apeshit over nowadays.

I find the Flash almost completely unwatchable. I've tried to give it a chance several times, and every time, I'm overwhelmed by the mediocrity of the script and actors. The CGI is good for a TV show, usually, but the fighting isn't that impressive in any case. Every once in a while I will see something in a webm or gif that makes me say "Holy shit, I should be watching this show!" but then I try and just get burned again.

I don't think of The Avengers as a fluke, and genuinely think Whedon set out to make a good movie and succeeded. He then proceed to mess up on the next one because he tried to stuff to much into it, but I think that Marvel helped him along with that, with all the Infinity War teases. I think Rick and Morty is alright but definitely not worthy of being "the best AS cartoon of all time" according to some people on /co/. Also Dan Harmon is a alcoholic piece of shit.

I think Bojack Horseman is some of the most pretentious bullshit I have ever seen in my life. The only reason people like it is because they're pieces of shit like Bojack and project onto him. Also how can you legitimately laugh at two kids in a trenchcoat pretending to be an adult? I realize it's supposed to be making fun of movies and shows like that but it's done so badly it just ends up being like one of those shows.

EEnE will never be as good as Grim Adventures.

Modern cartoons have the problem of being written and drawn by people with subpar writing and drawing skills. You can't honestly tell me that a show like Steven Universe can stack up to Powerpuff Girls, Dexters Lab or even Grim Adventures, right? It's obvious when you watch these shows that the person in charge knows what they're doing and isn't just letting their staff run wild. They had to be told by the network to stop having their characters cry every episode. Think about that for a moment.

There is a legitimate problem with cartoon creators inserting their agendas into their cartoons.

This isn't a /co/mplaint exactly but still related, I recently saw Sin City: A Dame To Kill For and while not great I don't think it was that bad. A little thin on content, a little stretched out but ultimately decent compared to far worse.

Also I'd honestly say the way it tells several separate stories/arcs/whathaveyou is something comic book movies (note comic book, not just cape) might want to adapt after the whole storyline and event phase burns cold.
After all somethings don't need a whole 2 hours for, but are still really good reads/views. Padding and filler don't always help. So maybe instead of a big plot for cosmic marvel for example they do a series of semi-interrelated stories that maybe could build up to a large narrative without turning into a convoluted knitting activity of plot threads. Doubt it will happen, but I still think it would be a better way to handle the material than inflating or decompressing or whatevering things.

Your opinions are shit and nobody cares. The entire point of 4chan is anonymous discussion, having conversations on specific topics with other people. Entering a thread and complaining that you don't like something, with no attempt at discussion or defending your opinion, is the most pointless, least intelligent thing you can possibly do. At least in the past when people did it they were self-aware and did it with humor. Nowadays it's probably a bunch of middle school kids who grew up unironically thinking everything they say is super important thanks to social media.

I dont like rick and morty. It feels like it tries to be different and cool, but just falls short for me.

Animation is leagues ahead of comics these days, and I wonder when comics will die off. Are they ever going to be as profitable as they were in the past?

Gumball is incredibly funny and has surpassed all other animated comedies in terms of comedic value. (plus it looks pretty)

I wish western animation would grow, and live up to the potential it has always had, but whenever something promising comes up, (rick and morty, SU, GF, etc.) the shows can be good but they're never perfect.

my opinion doesn't even matter but oh well

It would be more empowering for certain demographics to represent themselves, rather than waiting for others to do so.

Garth Ennis' take on The Punisher is great, but he sort of removed the action hero fantasy that I believe was essential to the character.

Saying your vigilante may be mentally ill, does not make them deep or mature. I'm not a fan of Batman, but the silly psychoanalysis he is sometimes subjected to gets annoying in spite of the parallels played between him and his villains.

Nothing in SU is made up. We've been getting hints about major reveals and shit since the very beginning. SU is probably the only Western cartoon that I can think of (aside from MAYBE JLU at times?) where the creators explicitly sat down, planned everything out ahead, and crafted a story that told itself with elegance.

>Also not really a plus when the characters themselves are about as deep as a puddle in the middle of the Mojave.
Characters are fantastic, m8. We've been getting a lot of interesting twists and turns here and there, like the reveal of Garnet as a fusion, Pearl's manipulative nature at her worst, Amethyst's insecurity, etc. And those are just the main Gems.

>The music is pretty fucking generic m8, nothing really special about it.
Uh, yeah, no. The soundtrack is actually pretty dang good and stands up heads and shoulders above pretty much any other modern syndicated Western cartoon, aside from Adventure Time, maybe Avatar, the DCAU in general (if that counts as modern), and Samurai Jack had some neat background tunes that really set the mood.

>You're right, it does get me pretty emotional at times. I always get choked up a little when i realize i'm wasting my time with a shitty show like SU when i could be using that precious time thinking of creative ways to kill myself.

Lacks flow? Wtf? It's a well written song and Estelle is a good singer but I will admit that she could have sounded maybe a little more enthusiastic, even if Garnet is supposed to be a pretty stoic character. And yeah the fight is pretty meh, even the show itself has done better. Imo the song works best in the context of the episode. I still think it's far from horrendous shit, but whatever.

I'm a bisexual who prefers men and I agree with this. I understand that there may be a need to help children understand that liking the same gender is natural so they won't feel ashamed or scared, but I feel that LGBT culture should not be shown to kids. Homosexuality should strictly be a "keep it in the bedroom" thing.

So should heterosexual culture be "kept in the bedroom" too? I enjoyed Korra. While it wasn't as good as ATLA it isn't the catastrophic disaster that /co/ accuses it of being. Sure, season 2 was the low point of the Avatar franchise, and yes, season 1 ended on a low note due to the fact that it was created to be a one shot, but all in all the show turned out to be decent.

I don't hate Korra, hell, I enjoy Korra. Also, Korrasami was telegraphed in season 3. Those two had most of their screen time together that season and there are subtle hints.

Oh, and Season 3 of Korra is the second best season out of the entire Avatar franchise.

I'm at a weird place with most superhero movies. When I see them, I typically end up liking them, but it takes some serious effort for me to actually get around to watching them.

I used to be very enthusiastic about them, but I suspect the reason for my lack of drive now is that I'm just bored of them. Even though most have different casts and characters, many of them "feel" the same in some manner. I can't really explain it.

It may partially be my pessimism speaking, but I feel as though the superhero movie genre will crash within the next decade. Audience interest in genres fluctuate, and considering how many superhero movies are released on an annual basis, and that number is growing steadily, I suspect audiences will eventually get bored of them. I'm thinking after the finale of the third Avengers movie.

Likewise, it kinda scares me that Disney is planning to pump out at least one Star Wars movie a year, especially since Star Wars kinda lacks the variety of Marvel and DC. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but even I don't want to see new movies in that universe THAT much. Star Wars is one of the biggest IPs in American media, but I feel that if Disney forces out that many movies in such a short period, audiences may actually get sick of it, too.

I stopped reading superhero comics 5 years ago and it was the best decision I've ever made.

Then what are you doing on this board?
>>
>>77936446
this is not /sup/ yet.

Here's my unpopular opinion:

>>77928011
>>77929195
Batgirlish and Vollstix are patricians, and only plebs are [triggered] to see /co/ posters who don't blindly praise whatever capeshit flavor-of-the-moment is popular now.

>>77936487
/sup/?
>>
>>77936672
Would you prefer /cpsht/?
>>
I'm really mad that I keep getting Moominmama on the Moomin's personality quiz, I want to be Snufkin.
>>
>>77936690
No, I meant what is "/sup/"? And what is "/cpsht/"?

Found the /sug/fags.

What are comics? Are comics a medium or a genre? Do non-superhero comics exist, or was >>77936363 only imagining the existence of non-superhero comics?
>>
>>77937239
I don't know anon, what's /sup/ wit you?

They refer to the idea of splitting off cape comic stuff from the rest of /co/, if you wanna know more you should read the manifesto Mein /co/mpf

I wish the word "capeshit" was a bannable offense as it's usually used by elitist cunts and /tv/ shitposters who are even worse

Live-action superhero stuff really needs its own board. It's as bad as MLP at this point.
>>
So, can we all agree stiven universh or SU is shit and be happy please?
>>
>>77937510
/co/ could benefit from an increase of elitism. It's not healthy for us to be so obsessed with two publishers and one genre.

Look at our neighbor, /ck/. Imagine if 90% of their restaurant threads were focused on their Big Two, McDonald's and Burger King. Nobody would like /ck/ if it looked like that. /ck/ avoids that by having better taste than we do, by being more elitist than we are. We should learn from them.
>>
>>77938151
>/co/ could benefit from an increase of elitism
Nah, fuck off. It's why /tv/, /a/ and /lit/ are pure cancer and indiefags are extremely obnoxious cunts because of it and probably the reason because people are unwilling to expand their horizons.
>le restaraunt comparisons
Oh, shit. It's you again.

chegged :----D
If I post it, the thread will probably implode. I can only drop a hint that it's a siamese cat, and the art in the comic is very simplified (no penises or anything, no excessively bestial looking characters, even though they'd easily end up in the furry ballpark)

I'm a huge Rogues fan but I want their New 52 incarnations to all die so we don't have to see them anymore. A reboot is sorely needed.

I'm in the same spot. You really summed it up well. On the one hand, I'm overjoyed that characters like Cap and Ant Man who are EXTREMELY hard to make the transition to the big screen did so as well as they did. I think people really gloss over how massive a challenge those two were.

But now I'm really 'meh' about the new films being made. My burnout is happening soon.

For comics, my burnout already happened. IDW's Ninja Turtles and the somewhat recent All New All Different Ghost Rider series were the ones I bought floppies for, no regrets.

As for the Star Wars films... I don't want pandering crap. I want clever writing that takes a chance on the long view while grabbing my attention as a jaded fan with a "hey. this is cool, intelligent, and makes sense so pay attention, idiot" approach. If I'm spoonfed the story with shit dialogue I'm simply not going to care.

All this live action capeshit trash thats being churned out before the bubble bursts belongs in /tv/.

I'm considering working in comics in the future but I don't even like comics and I prefer japanese anime and manga

Agreed. I think that SU is one of the most beautiful/artistically competent shows on television.

I buy most of what I want from one of the two comic shops in my city, everything else comes from right click+saving when I see a storytime thread here on /co/, and occasionally /tg/, that I like the look of.

I own and actively use tumblr, and most of you would probably call me a commie.

I am worried that the post-movie sales dip will happen at the same time as the tumblr-pandering dip happens.

This will probably be used as an excuse to axe -any- quality titles.

Not that Marvel isn't 100% shit atm.

I am a school librarian in a major metropolitan city that prides itself on its progressivism. I have to pretend every day that what Marvel is doing with its flagship titles is the best thing since slice bread every day, becuase I actually am surrounded by Tumblrinas with spherical body types and purple/pink sidecuts. If I were to say my true feelings, I have not a single doubt that my peers would hold a pogrom to see me removed from my position due to my problematic viewpoints.

But, honestly, pandering is a pandering and I refuse to view it as otherwise.

>>77917319
>They had to be told by the network to stop having their characters cry every episode. Think about that for a moment.
What's the story on that?
>>
>>77902676

I'm there with you. I randomly read comics, but don't read anything regularly.
>>
I still haven't forgiven /co/ for creaming their jeans over Waid's Daredevil. Fuck you morons and your shitty 'ZOMG SO RETROOOOOOO' silver age-fondling nonsense.

Thank god the new team actually seems to know what they're doing and Daredevil is finally readable again.
>>
>>77945544

Daredevil hasn't been readable since Brubaker.
The first issue of new run is complete fucking garbage.

Gravity Fall's many hiatuses made my lose a lot of fervor for the show.

Now, I don't even think it's as amazing as everyone says. I think the only reason it's being praised so much is that it was really the only overarching story cartoon to come out at the time. People love shit like that nowadays, and so people are eating it up.

I also confess that I don't usually care for the 'slice of life' episodes, basically anything that doesn't have to do with supernatural or mystery shit. I hate Grenda. I don't care for Wendy.

I'm not really sure why people think this show is extremely deep or whatever (to be fair, I never bothered to look up connections or WHY people say the show is incredibly deep. Nothing really compelled me to do so honestly.) I'm not really all that sad that it's ending, I think we all expected. I still love the show, I just think it's a bit overrated and that hiatuses are killing interest.
