Some were good, but they were obviously used to make the actual show shorter.

They're kinda like those new overly-elaborate couch gags from The Simpsons. They just exist to waste time and save money.

Shorter intros mean more adverts.

Cartoons used to be 25 minutes long. Now they're 22 minutes.

The elaborate Simpsons couch gags are to fill time, to take it up to the allotted 22 minutes.

Lately The Simpsons has been doing little outros at the end because they don't have enough material to fill an episode even with all the commercials and the extended couch gags. They'll toss in a 3-minute Edward Gorey parody or a short about Milhouse doing something.

The episodes still manage to feel thin and stretched-out anyway.

I theorized decades ago when I was a kid that that pattern is just going to get worse; soon a 30-minute show will be 15 minutes of show, 15 commercials, then ten minutes of show, and so on and so forth.

Eventually we'll get to a point where a 30-minute show is 29 minutes of ads.

Eventually, TV will be solely ads.

All that said, I'd rather TV in general be a tweaked version of how it works in Idiocracy.

Few intros are worthwhile enough to watch every time. Also extremely short intros aren't going to play with commercials on each side.

The real tragedy is commercials playing over comfy ending themes.
