Is this really the best Lex Luthor we're ever going to see?
I'm gonna hijack this thread for just a second, if you guys don't mind.
When I showed my girlfriend the new BvS trailer, she asked "who's Lex Luthor again?"
What's a good scene from the animated series I can show her that really captures who he is?
Smallville is considered a really good portrayal. If you take into account the differences in power, money, influence/access due to age and other circumstances, I would agree, although I did like the DCAU version a great deal.
I agree with >>77895747, I think ASS is probably the best portrayal, but you should read the trades.
Actually, this is the best live action Luthor.
Oh wouldn't I give for a chance to have a "Black Luthor" this board would go topsy turvy with /pol/ posting bitching about Es-Jay-Dubuyahs & gimmick castings.
There really isn't debating that Luthor was black in DCAU. You whites can have all the other characters but we got Lex
No. it's just that the way he looks on TV, well you don't really think about it but, if someone told you he was black you could kind of believe it since he's bald and not yellowish-white skinned like you'd usually see. Of course with that someone could post that image where they compare Super Man's skin with Lex's.
He's of Greek descent.
Unfortunately, probably. DCAU Lex was god-tier and it's unfortunate that casuals don't really care about him, or DCAU Lois Lane, or Tim Daly and George Newbern as Superman, when they were all some of the best takes on the characters really.
The DCAU was fuckin' based.
I was always a really big fan of Lex in the All-Star adaptation. Even if the movie as a whole fell flat in a number of places, his scenes were all great
It helps that they don't have to deal with keeping continuity straight in every iteration of a DCAU show or movie. They can just make a movie about Superman or Batman or the Just-Us League or whatever and let it stand on its own.
>So half African? I can maybe kinda see using "African-American" to describe a person but to use it to describe their genetic lineage is retarded.
Not really, since "African-American" is pretty much a grab bag. Most African Americans are a mix between Africans, Whites, and Native Americans (since the slavery of NA's overlapped for a time with that of Africans).
I like the Lego version.
>Farewell Superman, after i'm elected President i'll build a statue in your honor.
>No you won't.
>You're right, I won't; but nobody's gonna call me out on it
The Johns version is just a more unhinged version of this one though. Tve influence is so obvious. Not saying that's bad, or even that it automatically makes the DCAU version better I just don't think you can talk about the Johns version withouttalking about this one.
>still wants humanity to rise above aliens
>still egomanical, but willing to work with other villains
>charismatic and affable
>still hates Superman, but smart enough to not be a raging pissbaby about it, unlike DCAU Lex
Not really. He's really an evol
>le "kill yourself" meme

He was literally Greek. Bruce Timm himself said it.
I'm amazed people keep saying Lex was black when Superman had the same skin tone as him.
Xanatos is capable of love, though. I really don't see YJ Lex being able to love anyone.
Again, he does hate Superman, but he's not shouting it at the top of his lungs either. He could've used any other person to stabilize Superboy's Kryptonian DNA, but he chose to do it himself. That's a huge "fuck you" to Supes.
See this guy coming up to two dudes having a dick measuring contest they are going to stop because they don't want to be embarrassed by him whipping it out. Unlike this Carrot Top of the Board we've got here (Because Modern CT is fucking scary) Dang he's just more a joke than a threat.
Was Telly Savalas also black?
Well, for most of last century we weren't really welcomed as white. Then I think whites wanted us to be some kinda buffer zone against the darker skinned folk. Hell, even here in the Northeast, my family told me how we weren't allowed on some whites only beaches.
I can't be the only one seeing Marvel's Arcade when I look at this Lex.
It's the perfect Luthor voice. Like other people I can't help but hear his voice when I read him in comics.
I do think the Superman TAS version suffered from being the John Byrne/Marv Wolfman version who was pretending to be a good guy. He was a fantastic villain but because he couldn't be publicly known as a villain, he couldn't play as big a role as he should have.
Which is probably why the Justice League Unlimited version kept pushing him closer and closer toward the Silver Age mad scientist version. That and SA nostalgia.
considering all he's been in is shitty movies as of late...why the fuck didn't they think of him. this totally could be his come back role.
I've always felt Luthor should be more like Doctor Doom. That he hates Superman but loves mankind and actually is good if not blinded by his xenophobia. That a world under Luthor's rule would be a better place because he is so pragmatic and logical, like Von Doom's world was a better world without the need of superheroes. But Luthor had the world and/or the US and only persisted as a one dimensional bad guy taking any chances to do bad shit and eventually get superfucked.
I don't understand what anyone sees in him, but then again I probably never read the RIGHT super selected elite issues.
there's a reason they never shut up about kekholding
Germans and Scandinavians weren't considered white by the Anglo-Saxon establishments in the UK and US until after the Nazis succeeded in changing that attitude for the rest of the 20th century. The whole "Northern Europeans" concept is basically Nazi fanfic.

Are you sure about that? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordic_race#Background
