Good evening owls of /co/,
Yes, it's event tie-in time. No, it doesn't suck.
True, but Parker makes as much hay as he can out of all of this
sorry I'm late, I'm also tipsy
My eyes are on the verge of bleeding due to a webcomic binge. Turns out staring at a computer screen for hours at a time without breaks is not such a great idea.
so what was good today, I didn't really read anything yet???
I think I recall that Fear Itself was, yet again, something intended as a small crossover that got blown up into a LINE-WIDE EVENT and suffered greatly for it, but I don't understand Fraction Thor at all. Like, I just don't get the angle he was going for, anything.
also for fuck's sake, another fucking mass shooting?
Survivor's Club, Vision, Sheriff of Babylon, Robin War #1 were all good, so was Midnighter and Gotham Academy.
That's all I managed to get to.
And BRE didn't suck today either, so it's 3 issues in a row that have been okay!
I have ASS8 in floppy but haven't read it yet
haven't read Prez either
I read Midnighter, that was pretty good shit, especially if that's how the first trade ends
DON'T MOCK THE SHOCKER!
also, btw, someone's getting some one punch man in January
well I am buying the shit out of that Prez trade
aww, shit, sorry for being slow guys, I just got home and I'm still putzing around putting shit away
I love it, it's definitely a statement that I've heard before - but mainly because it's a solid and consistent one.
Can apply anywhere.
The mini could have been better, but it would have all been for naught if not for that moral.
It seems like the kind of thing that could kill in trade, especially with a few right reviews to hit a market that the direct market just doesn't, and with the promise of a good full story
I never quite got the bug for that one, I admit, maybe I was just a bit too old?
Alex de Campi just tweeted about how freaking good Sheriff was
also guys STARMAN OMNI 3 is being printed
I, on the other hand, would sell you all into slavery for a proper Pirates of Dark Water reboot/finish/whatever
I'd kill for a Wonder Woman fil that isn't guaranteed to suck eight kinds of ass.
And can the colorist PLEASE decide if Fixer is supposed to be black or not? It's bothering the hell out of me.
how are you owls? is there DELICIOUS HAWKMAN again?
I'd kill for Neonomicon to be written with the amount of attention and love as Providence.
I mean, Levitz is safe...but taking too much time
>how are you owls?
we were very very rainy last week, now it's mid 60s and sunny which is awesome, I can get the last of the cotton and peppers done
THERE IS NO MALICIOUS CODE HERE, 4CHAN
that's the FEAR ITSELF event, the hammers going out and fucking up villains
>How are you owls?
Fine, aside from the aforementioned sore eyes.
As much as I enjoy Girl Genius, it takes fucking forever to move along. Where I'm at, Agatha is only just now on her way to Mechanicsburg.
You know, I see some kinship in writing style between Parker and Ostrander
Oooh, I'm looking through the list and there is some good stuff here.
Teen Titans Earth One vol 2 is finally coming out apparently.
This will probably push the Batman one back a few months even though Johns and Frank said they got to start earlier on it.
I started with Cagebolts proper, and some time later on (we're taking a LOSH break) I'm gonna do more, not sure how yet
BTW n00bs: hi, I am the JSA Storytimer, we read various and sundry, I announce in advance, and I storytime every day I'm not drunk/hungover/traveling at 7 PM CDT
We are currently in the middle of a grand project of reading EVERY LOSH COMIC EVER, and we're taking a break before beginning Threeboot, whenever we get back to it.
We range widely on discussion topics, and anything is open except for shitposting.
And yes, I got the name because we started out reading everything JSA-related humanly possible, and then we branched out; we tend to read more niche Big Two comics, although I take suggestions.
So if you are just joining us, settle in, we have some hoot hoot jokes, but we just like comics
we also like ass shots and reaction pics
The more I read, the more I realize Songbird is my type. There's something incredibly attractive about a woman who is noble, yet pragmatic.
To be honest, Threeboot sounds really fucking stupid. Maybe I'm just butthurt over Reboot being canned for no apparent reason, but this whole "teen revolution" idea seems kind of retarded.
I think the restarted JiM did come out of Fear Itself, I forget
was there actually glorious fucking Parallax, or was that all /co/ lies?
is that Illuminati book any good? I stopped by my LCS this evening but didn't know the person working so I didn't chat
>is Rightclops really ded
"Maybe even the X-Men will decide to help"
alright, I added you, anon from Canadia
btw, this pastebin is 100% separate from the big thread, we just found that in a thread with a ton of regulars that it was fun to send each other shit with hilarious messages, such as "THANKS FOR THE FOLDER OF OLD MAN CROTCHES"
Anon! Your waifu! In her full glory!
Oh honey, you are making bad, bad decisions
I love you Jeff Parker
That's Karla! She'll never admit it, but she gets into the position of responsibility, and her ego is susceptible.
that too, she is one of the OG Thunderbolts
We've talked about what makes villain doing good comics so engaging. I want to add that Thunderbolts and Suicide Squad classic both let the C and D lists shine for once and really show off the gems of both universes. Instead of just seeing the same popular villains again and again
Like when Remender brought back all those dead bronze age villains in his Punisher run. The world needs characters like Turner D Century
Sooo, I might get to go deer hunting with my SIL, owls :D
I was so :D that when I tweeted how much we'd lost by no Remender Turner D. Century one-shot, he faved it
I WANTS IT
Jen van Meter, btw, is Mrs. Greg Rucka, and has also written some JSA Classified and Dr. Mirage, and that delightful Hourman/Libby/Tigress backup
Gillen went all in on some Namor jokes but it was hamstrung by that LAAAAAAAAAND art
Karla is 1000% HBIC
See, Walker knows when you're polite. He'll kick the shit out of you if you're not, but he has manners.
He's pretty fun
he never answered me when I asked what the Latin Deadly Class motto was SUPPOSED to read, though
because it's not good Latin, and that makes baby Jesus cry
Everytime I read beta team I keep on thinking it should be "Bravo" team.
I know they're not millitary, but it just feels more right that way.
It's got some solid writing and pretty good scenes.
Far more infighting than I care for, even given the Legion's size and scale in Threeboot and in general.
Ooh, I never read that one
I just read that Kevin Smith one we should all agree doesn't exist
USAgent rolls fucking hard, but he's not just a reactionary bully.
>that delightful Hourman/Libby/Tigress backup
We read that not too long ago, during Johns' JSA run. Delicious Jessie.
In fact, I think that run was what led to the LOSH marathon. Thanks Mordru.
well this looks kind of like an OZ situation
remember when Beecher shit on Schillinger's face?
Yeah, it was actually the back up in Sturges All-Stars, I think
but yeah, blame Mordru for all that, too
Dreamy top waifu
It's been most of a year
what new was good today? I saw Spidey #1 at my LCS
Oh, I see Red Wolf was out today, too
that made no splash based on my subjective readings
I know it's Eventshit, but how was Robin War?
Let's do at least one more, maybe two, you know?
please chat at me, owls
Marvel jumped straight into a story reminiscent of the last long-running arc of All-Star Western because they know based on that there's no audience for westerns and it's unlikely there's a Marvel-equivalent of Didio who'll keep it on way past cancellation numbers because he likes it.
fuck, forgot the fucking pic
I liked it. A lot of people seemed upset that corrupt cops in Gotham were corrupt, because anything that portrays police as less than heroes must be liberal -ganda.
There's something really appealing to me about superhero gang wars where both sides have loads of themed minions.
It's been so long since we started.
And we still have Threeboot, Retroboot, Legion of Three Worlds, Nu52.... And the cartoon has a few tie-in comics as well. Not to mention all the other miscellaneous stuff the Legion appears in.
It's far less than where we've been, and cartoon tie-ins are really optional
someone ran Lightning Saga today, was it?
I give it one trade, Weisman curse and zero giving of shits
It was good to me. I'm tired of CoO but this seems more well done than how they've been used after their first appearance.
Though a lot of people seem to not like it because of >>77886172 or they're afraid that Duke and the other kids doing well will cause Damian to stop being Robin or something.
Fixer is....disgruntled, and it's been building
The dialogue was good thanks to King. Great Damian bants.
For some reason they marketed a Chapter One/Ultimate-style series as an Untold Tales series even though the former is just going to make fans of the latter mad. Though their Spider-Man selling strategy is to make fans perpetually mad...
BTW, apparently the other night The Ladies found 1) a Green Lantern ring 2) pink sunglasses and spent almost an hour playing GL vs. Star Sapphire
There was an "Armorr" shoutout in Middy today
Crossbones is an irredeemable cunt
Ahhhhh, so much Moonstone ass
OH FUCK SHE'S PULLING OUT THE HEAVY WEAPONRY
Oh anon, if you hold on, there's gonna be some....multiple Moonstone action, in the future
Btw, owls, because it's Christmastide?
Every weekend! Classic!
STORYTIME OF PAIN!
If you missed MOON NAZIS, GAY FOR JUSTICE, RISE OF ARSENAL, DREAMWAR, WAR MACHINE 2.0, you are in fucking luck
No, that's cool, and if it's too crowded, bleh, but I know that thanks to you wonderful owls I tend to draw a more interesting crowd
Also, I'm willing to run it slower and comment, not just dump it. Yes, owls, I enter every captcha by hand, no 4chan pass
>We existed before that which came before.
Bet that sounded really cool in your head, right? Dumbass.
One presumes Cry for Justice and Rise of Arsenal, yes? Time to dive in to the madness!
IT'S TOO LONG AND MOST OF IT IS FUCKING BORING AND AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH
omg cranky!anon? have you NOT READY THOSE?
holy shiiiiiiiit you're in for a tiiiiiiiime
wasn't that Gillen writing ADAM X? i have that panel saved somewhere!
I feel bad for forgetting about MOON NAZIS. "Good" stuff.
>War Machine 2.0
Wait, we're doing that shit again? Ew. Just... ew.
YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP, DAVE. NO CROSSING. HELL ASS NO.
We might. I mean, I'm flexible. It depends on the amounts of tribute and hooch I receive.
you added, anon
Dave, that would be a fucking riot, I'd be happy to pay for shipping
>omg cranky!anon? have you NOT READY THOSE?
Oh no, I have. In these threads, even.
Rise of Arsenal is arguably worse than Cry for Justice, since at least Gay for Justice is shit all the way through, whereas RoA has the utter gall to start off with a solid, and genuinely emotionally compelling first issue.
Man, if shipping weren't suck, I'd send you guys cookies. I make amazing cookies.
Also Gay for Justice is 1) long 2) has some better art in it
But I do believe Robinson when he says that it didn't exactly come out as it was pitched
Yeah, totally. Gonna do that once finals are over. Ahhh, I don't miss grading finals, no not one bit!
They had to mean 6.0. Also, Chicago doesn't get earthquakes, SE Missouri does, and every once in a while they are motherfuckers on the New Madrid Fault
hehehe, no, google the New Madrid Fault
last time it went off it 1) changed the course of the Mississippi 2) rang the church bells in Boston
I mean, I'm down, I just didn't realize we'd ever re-visit it. They really couldn't get better graphics for their 3D models? The fucking things don't even move in this format, so there's no excuse for such shoddy work. Goddamn.
>But I do believe Robinson when he says that it didn't exactly come out as it was pitched
I believe him too. No sane person willingly writes that kind of garbage. Seriously, what was up with killing off all those C-listers? Fucking pointless and in one case kind of offensive.
I barely believe in California, but I grew up on a fault line too
Oh, Karla, we love you too
It's just...I know you guys resuffer it with me, and bless you for it, because every time some n00b goes THIS IS FUCKING REAL? And then I receive the infusion of life energy I need to keep going.
This El Nino has been fucking us up the ass in Texas, so I hope it fucks you too
>For the record, I wasn't worried about you.
Aww! Karla, why you so tsun-tsun~?
Moonstone straddling the Chicago River?
I'd love it
(ST went to college in the fine city of Chicago)
ohhh shit it's PROMONTORY POINT!!!!
no one fucking cares about SWORD anyway
Oh, my LCS had cards for the upcoming January or whatever Captain Marvel relaunch
Heeeeeey, Lakeshore Drive! I know and love you.
hey owls, we up for one more? if we are, I promise you something...
>It's just...I know you guys resuffer it with me, and bless you for it, because every time some n00b goes THIS IS FUCKING REAL? And then I receive the infusion of life energy I need to keep going.
I've said this before, but it's a point I feel needs to be stressed.
Reading bad stories gives you a better appreciation for good stories by showing you what doesn't work and how things can be done wrong. SoPs are important, dammit!
Man, I wanna go to Florida some time. Buy weird plants, sit on the beach, all of that.
Also figuring out exactly WHY an SoP is bad is important. Is it just a bad idea? How is the execution bad, and what can we blame it on? etc.
one thing here: I don't think the beach is that nice or obvious on the Lake
If we vote yes, one more should wrap this up
(that said, I only ever went to the Lake Michigan shore at the Point, wherein it is huge-ass stone breakers and I didn't get in because it's fucking cold)
de Landro is, btw, the main Bitch Planet artist now
Did I link to that interesting takedown of that book?
>Man, I wanna go to Florida some time. Buy weird plants, sit on the beach, all of that.
Just be wary of the traffic. Ain't nobody knows how to fucking drive around here.
Not posted with complete endorsement, natch, but worth thinking about?
I live in Central Texas, anon, I know some fucking shit weather
Yeah, I've heard about that
I'd want to aim for some good shelling beaches and more out of town/laid back shit, and you'd have to fucking pay me to go into Miami
like, a lot....except that I want to go to the Kampong like BURNING, unf unf unf
wait, is All-New X-Men total shit or not?
>converting headquarters into a flying fortress
I have no real commentary for this, that's just cool.
Also, Troll continues to be a total cutie. Has she been in anything recent? Did Bendis ever get his fat grubby hands on her?
I get their point but I also give the book a LOT of leeway from seeing others react to it strongly, like getting tattoos after issue 1. I think there's something there to cause that resonance. The stuff about being overwritten is legit, I'd like to see the art carry more of the story.
Some of it seems nitpicking about the world building tho which I think is sloppy in that b-movie way of throwing out the ideas and hoping they work. It doesn't bother me.
ugh, Gillen YA, that's a fate worse than death
I'm really weirdly fascinated by the people who got the fucking tats after one issue, I admit. Man, that's like, body-altering shit, and so quick? But that's a hang-up of mine, I know
BUT I have also found the online/esp tumblr cult of KSD very unnerving
STORYTELLER NEEDS BOOZE
I RAN THE HAWKSNARL!!!!
hey guys, something COOL is about to come up
I mean, Satana is pretty equal-opportunity, to be fair
'Norbert' is just a great old-fashioned name
honestly? tastes pretty much like chicken.
Oh my god, Becky.
Look at her butt.
>HOW CAN YOU STILL BE CONNECTED WITH HIM?
Because he was the only Thunderbolt Zemo doesn't blackmail into joining with him when he unvei-why am I telling you this Abner, YOU WERE THERE!
Shhh, shhhh, we'll read Thunderbolts from the top later
Pffft, I can lol at Sim for his knock-off Otto Weininger misogyny because motherfucker I read that shit auf deutsch and still respect Cerebus for what it is
And then Man-Thing was a kaiju.
>I don't know! Isn't it exciting?
Storyteller, you're doing this shit on purpose, i swear. It's like you seek out books containing prime waifu material. Almost every damn time. Even fucking Battle Pope had that cute succubus.
I want to own this
But I will honestly like, ummm, be eternally grateful? for L.E.G.I.O.N. singles. I mean, I'll send you cookies and/or plant seeds.
Yes, I 10000% do it on purpose.
ahem, does anyone here know the song for 'Mrs. O'Leary's Cow'? Or do I have to sing it by myself?
(one dark night, while we were all in bed)
Also vote: one more or sleep
I mean, I think it goes off the fucking rails in a profound way, but I still dig the craft and what comes before
please send booze :(
OOOH do I need to run that again????
Sorry, I'm a weird mix of wired and drunk. That wants to be MORE drunk.
And I supported the High Society Kickstarter, but even though my shelves are limited, I'd LOVE to have phonebooks.
there is no actual Namor, really
also lol at Squadron Supreme with ded Namor
Shit, I'd like to be in Austria
Austrian accents are really cute! Very bouncy!
Titans: Villains for Hire is indeed that top-notch sort of trainwreck
I'll do it as a holiday SoP
I was gonna mow the lawn
and then I got high~
Isn't it funny just how much better Parker Cage is than anything Bendis ever got close to doing with him?
Hey anons, has there been more Afterlife with Archie since that FUCKING AMAZING Sabrina issue???
SEE THIS is why Parkerbolts is a notch above. You get the regrets. You see people fucking up and it's not just Protagonist Based Morality.
TO BE FAIR, what Dave Sim goes into is deeply offensive at best, but I do think there's a lot to be read and enjoyed and salvaged and even read against the obvious creator's intention.
A really long time. I love RAS, and I love his MK4 beyond all reason, but damn, that's been slow.
I think I myself am jaded against the Sim-type stuff because hi, I professionally do 19th century, I'm used to the most toxic kind of misogyny like it's pond water. Many people are not, and it thus hits them harder.
Aww shit, sorry I missed the opportunity to sync this exactly, but we were listening to this today cleaning:
I'm a lapsed academic, yeah
New soundtrack: my great-uncle:
WAS ist, you undeutsche schweine
Jeff Parker: "Hm. Villains or no, the T-Bolts have pulled a pretty dick move here. How do I keep the 'hero' part of 'anti-heroes'? ....Oh, I know! I'll have them beat up Nazis!"
THANKS FOR READING OWLS
No. I'm pretty sure part of the reason why she's been so sassy in this run is because she's aware everyone knows she's a manipulative bitch and she figures wisecracking constantly might get them to lower their guards a little.
Haha, no? 2011 Marvel was fucking awful and the worst year for Marvel since '05. Just because it's when you first started reading comics and hadn't become a bitter troglodyte yet doesn't some how make it good.
Parkerbolts was one of the few good things within an ocean of shit, and even that started going to shit post-Fear Itself.
You do you, man. I stand by the fact that 90s Marvel gets way more shit than it deserves, is better overall than the mid-00s, and that Onslaught Saga is the best event Marvel has ever done.
I can acknowledge that these opinions are purely a result of my own nostalgia from the era since that's when I started reading comics and hadn't gotten critical of what I was reading yet. Long as it had big guns and an X on it, it was good to me.
Anyone able to shop out the background?
