A brand new season of Samurai Jack is being made for Adult Swim Toonami. Coming in 2016. It is NOT replacing Michiko and Hatchin

I don't have an image suggestive enough to properly display my hype.
Esdeath does not approve of western crap
>Oblongs is the new lead-in
We're doomed! Doomed I tells ya!
We barely lost momentum. Am I dreaming? New reason to not die?
I knew you were a shitposter
But not this much of a shitposter
>tfw by the time it or megas gets a new season the technology portrayed within will be long outdated by real world standards
So my fellow anons, namefags, tripsfags... Will the new samurai jack be airing on toonami
was that the big change DeMarco was talking about
He said this a few days prior, it's probably this
Maybe just a trend of original programming period. The lack thereof is the only thing keeping Toonami from being relevant to a general audience.
Plus, y'know, Sara's gone. We'll have to see what happens at the end of Intruder 2.
Pre/Post toonami schedule is different now. Mostly the same as before we lost 8pm, though, albeit with dual FG, singular AD, and The Oblongs (!!!) at 8pm.
2 Clevelands, 1 AD, and 2 KOTH after Toonami.
also I hope with OC coming they expand Toonami to at least 4 hours. Also nice to see Cartoon Network Studios making more shows for Adult Swim.
They reran Oblongs at 8pm for a while this year on Sunday. apparently it got around 700k-900k.
the higher the better, basically. the first number stands for how many people watched the program, just add three zeros to the end of that number. I think the decimal # stands for the 18-49 demographic (which is what the advertisers want). The last # I'm pretty sure is how many people out of the first # are part of that demographic.
Annoying agk shitposter doesn't like good tv shows. I can't wait till your shitty show ends or gets put on the rerun backburner.
Let's hope samurai jack isn't tween animated
Guys I'm worried about Samurai Jack because it's an AS show now. One of two things will happen.
>it's a big hit
Judging by the response today, it's hard to say it won't be. That could be inflated due to people just wanting original Toonami content but whatever. If it is a hit, it will end up like Rick and Morty or The Boondocks where it gets rerun over and over again till people are fucking sick of it killing its ratings potential forever.
This is gonna cost a good chunk of cash for AS. If it bombs, they will likely take it out on Toonami. Black Dynamite comes to mind. Expensive production values, yet shit ratings so they pretend it doesn't exist
We lose either way
Anyone else feel like they blew it by hamming it up too much?
>The oblongs is back
>Samurai Jack was the surprise DeMarco was holding for us
>we are back for regular Toonami this week
>one week left of class
great week, now if my desktop could turn on...
He said it's all Lazzo and Genndy.
What >>77881724 said, but that's not his department either. His job is on-air advertisements and promotion, along with leading Toonami's packaging and show research. There's an entire department that makes decisions on [as]'s scheduling.
oh look, more Murican garbage fagging up the block, can't wait for more Clone Wars and a third Thundercats reboot
Marathons being shit in general aside, I liked the timing of this particular one. They fit the whole first arc of Parasyte into a single night which not only was nice to rewatch but it also probably snared new viewers. I actually had several friends over to watch the marathon and they loved it.
Here's the big question:
What could POSSIBLY top Samurai Jack returning? Or at least be on par with an announcement like this.
Could be a few things:
>They're making that Dandy movie and Toonami is getting the World Premiere
>A REALLY BIG Simuldub, which in all likelihood would be SAO 3
>Confirmation that they're getting a dub of a current show, but not quite a simuldub (not sure what they could get, but One Punch Man would be a best-case scenario, albeit unlikely)
>Start time moved forward, either to 11:30 again or even 11
>TOM 6, a new Absolution, and a new AI co-host
IGPX Season 3 or Reboot
>I'm not sure what would replace One Piece
>ISIS will never bomb Williams Street
Why is Atlanta so irrelevant?
Probably a new season of a classic anime that used to be on Toonami back in the day, as well as it being something that premieres in America at the same time as Japan like Dandy.
Something like a new season of Yuyu Hakusho or Outlaw Star. It would undoubtedly be shit, but still be pretty hyped up.
>tfw toonami will never have two shows with mako in it
1 off from dub dub quads.
But I'm not going to lie this year has been pretty ass, KLK and Gurren Lagann were the only good announcements. Hell we also lost half of the block as well. I'm still positive though. Samurai Jack doing well on Toonami could possibly open up the doors for expansion or at least some comfort or wiggle room.
IGPX Season 3 gets me wet as fuck tho.
Gurren Lagann was last year m8
I do agree, KLK was a solid, unexpected pick. Parasyte is good too.
We likely have one last announcement for 2015. I count it as a 2015 pick since M&H ends with 2 weeks of 2015 left
It's just a computer
>handling both bnha and mob
Well I already said >>77887780 but I don't hate on it coming back , maybe Ill watch it now? I'm 29 years old I was in high school when the shit was on originally (IMDB says 2001-2004) I would though be hell of a lot more excited for SBT as I watched that when it was on the block.
>Motherfucking Jack is back
I'm getting tired of the universe giving me new reasons not to kill myself.
>yfw the universe is actively doing it to prevent your suicide, as it will cause a chain of events that would end said universe
keep trying to kill yourself, maybe the next miracle will be Megas XLR
If my suffering brings Megas back i'll gladly do it, for the sake of humanity.
>more Clone Wars on Toonami
Anon... have you been asleep since 2012?
It may be nothing, but there's already been a Megas XLR panel announced for next year's Anime Expo. They wouldn't do this unless there was something to announce, so at best I'm praying that they come out saying that they got the rights back at least.
Not him but why can't he have a differing opinion? I'm cautiously hype, it's cool it's happening but there are LOTS of ways this can be fucked up.
If it ends up being similar to the old version with heavy walking in every episode, I can see why someone wouldn't be too excited for it. Also unless we get an expansion off this too it takes up an anime slot for an undetermined amount of time, something that's already at a premium
IMO we should be getting an extension just for this anyway. They are spending all this cash to make the damn thing, we atleast deserve an extra 30 minutes to premier it in.
What would be better, keeping DBZ out front followed by Jack or putting Jack right out front? IMO they should stick with the DBZ lead. Don't give away high tier premiers right out of the gate like they did with AoT. Make the casual viewer earn it
I don't think I'd like that
they've got a good thing going with the way the block is and the only time Toonami was better imo was when they just did a straight block rerun for the second half
And those reruns got shit tier ratings. An extension based on ratings would go into the early hours, not later. Whenever they finish and are ready to air it, I expect 11:30 to return. Amazing ratings could warrant 11. An 11-3:30 block would be perfect. I'd even be content with 3am being dropped for 11 making it 11-3.
It helps AS with finding programming for those troublesome early hours on Saturday. Why they aren't keeping the current setup is beyond me.
Hey now. Asuka may be worst girl, but the love that Tiffany Grant and moot share with Asuka is something sacred.
Probably your first and favorite anime, am I right?
Alright so what are your guys wish list for the new Samurai Jack? I'll knock some obvious ones out
>drop robot censorship
Not worried about this one since Demarco and company are really driving the Adult Swim point home. However...
>don't go crazy with the loose censorship
Just because they can now doesn't mean this needs to be Superjail tier.
There really are only 3 recurring characters. Jack, Aku and the Scotsman. We will have to live with an impersonator for Aku, the Scotsman probably could be changed without notice but Jack absolutely has to be the previous VA
>don't force extra seasons
Even if it's ultra successful, give us the conclusion we all desire and stop. End the series with dignity
Anything else to add?
Nothing of importance. All you see is Toonami General grossly overreacting to nothing because their precious SAO was no longer there and in a desperate attempt to have their stupid comment end up in a compilation of forced reactions
I think the first, and only genuine one came from this comment. Then he let that success go to his head and tried making them for every little occurrence which resulted in people shitposting to get in
Get the band back together on the team.
A large part of the old crew either works at CN, is with Paul Rudish over at Disney TV, or haven't worked in a good while so I could see that not being too difficult.
I'm scared as fuck. A lot of people have been making wishes on monkey paws lately. What's the caveat we have to endure in order for Samurai Jack to return? Do you think Sara was the only sacrifice, or can we expect more pain in the near future?
Episode 1 of AGK featured:
>The term "Danger Beast"
>Terrible dubbing, even worse than later episodes
>Indiscriminate murder accompanied with gore
>The twist being that the MC's friends were being tortured to death in the basement of the mansion he was staying at and the nice girl he met is actually an insane sadist that hates poor people for no reason
It was certainly shitty enough to be compared to SAO. Yeah, people were sort of consciously reacting to it, but guess what, that's the fucking point of a live watch thread: to react. If you're going to react to fucking terrible edgy shit, you might as well make it fun.
Compilations of reactions definitely got old, though, I agree.
>yfw all the money that could have went to anime that's being wasted on a shitty western show reboot
It's like a nightmare i can't wake up from.
how does it feel one cartoon is more relevant than the whole of anime?
As someone who was pretty sad when I heard that JoJo was too expensive, Samurai Jack is an extremely acceptable use of their budget.
Tom is getting a new sidekick
>calling Ashigaru Jacqueline rubbish
Do you feel this list is accurate?
because after a bunch of marathons with shit ratings he finally hit it big
Parasyte was a very good idea since normies love it.
>One Piece marathon
holy shit that has to go bad
>least popular show on the block
>all chosen episodes are pure dialog except 1
>day after Christmas
Is there any way this can succeed?
It did ok. Was like 700-800k on the night of the 4th of July. That's pretty great
I never thought I'd find someone with the same thoughts as me in these threads. Where do you live anon? I've considered picketing toonami due to the anti-religerous imagery if you're interested
Why are you trying to make my dick flaccid you flaming flamingo
>after months of awful marathons killing the block the one marathon that does bring in the money he decides to be a cheeky cunt about it
>one of the worst states in the original 13 colonies
>wanting terrorism to infest GA
>wanting Atlanta's infamous traffic problems to somehow get WORSE
I live here, not by choice, but even I wouldn't wish that on this shithole.
>empire is always first
But new hope's dialogue is so much better
Well, I'd assume a return to normal/brand new bumpers at episode 7. I really don't see how they could get any worse at this point. Maybe Sonny Strait will narrate them one week
>Intruder 2 segment
>TOM is hiding in the elevator
>Intruder tells him he hacked Twitter accounts and told everyone a new season of Samurai Jack is coming
>TOM comments that would never happen
>>fucking western trash contaminating the block again
I know this is just a troll, but for those who actually think Toonami is an anime-only block: Do you not remember the old Toonami?
Johnny Quest, PPG, Samurai Jack.. they all used to air on old Toonami. Toonami has always been an action cartoon block, not just action anime.
I would love to have a balance between action cartoons and action anime again. It's too one sided right now.
I'd love Toonami getting 11:30 back, with SJ leading the block. Then DBZ Kai, etc. until 3:30.
I'd love to get the comfy rerun hours back, but we can't always have everything. The truth is, since Toonami was cut back to 3 and a half hours, the ratings have increased.. I really dont know why, but that's what happened.
People are more likely to watch the whole block when it's at a more reasonable time. Before it was
>ok 3-4 hours of reruns after shit shows I'm off to bed
>well it's a rerun but it's just 30 more minutes I'll stick around
coming from the fag whose waifu is this... thing
I'm genuinely curious, why did people like the reruns?
>on at an ungodly hour
>most had reran many times over the years in more reasonable timeslots
>near the cut time most had played 2-3 times on Toonami alone
What was the draw? Why lose sleep on things you almost certainly had seen multiple times before?
>implying Stocking isn't the cutest
>implying Panty is any better
I guess it's kinda like asking what do people like about watching anything at late night. You'll get a lot of mixed answers, and for some, it's not even necessarily about "liking", as they're just gonna be up anyway.
Personally though, if I'm gonna be up, I'd rather watch some old anime I really enjoyed than some rerun of Family Guy.
Shit guys I fucked up a date. I didn't eat salad with my hands or shove shit down the toilet with a sock but I still have issues
>pick up girl have dinner all that shit goes fine
>decide to take a night drive after we finish
>have iPod plugged in
>can't reach it from the driver seat so whatever plays plays
>normie stuff for a bit
>then I notice a familiar autotune
>downloaded the Parasyte OP
>just like the general predicted I hated it at first and at about episode 5 I was downloading it
>do I want her to think I'm a weeb or a screamo faggot
>go with screamo faggot
>she buys it
>still probably lost some points anyway
This is yours guys fault for convincing me to warm up to that song
if it makes you feel better you made the right choice between letting her think you are a weeb and a screamo fag. you can grow out of being a screamo fag. but once a weeb always a weeb.
I'm glad I made the right choice. I'm also glad she really isn't that bright and didn't question me when I told her its normal for it to be hard to understand after she mentioned it didn't sound like English. I should be able to salvage the whole thing with minimal damage
>once a weeb always a weeb.
Why must this be so? Even as a small boy I knew my love of that shit was a curse as much as a blessing.
It's our fate. We're all destined to like chinese cartoons until the very last second of this universe's existence.
>Not knowing Christina
Anon, she's perfect
>implying all namefags/tripfags aren't awful
>I'm genuinely curious, why did people like the reruns?
It was all old shows we've seen many times before. In a way, it was the closest thing to the nostalgia backhalf people always wanted on Toonami. Obviously they cant deliver on Outlaw Star, G Gundam and all those old shows, but it came as close to it as possible. Plus, it was also appealing mostly to the night owl kind that would be up at that time anyway.
Listening to the Ghost in the Shell intros (both gigs) every night at an ungodly hour always made me feel cozy and relax. It was just a comfy block.
>Listening to the Ghost in the Shell intros (both gigs) every night at an ungodly hour always made me feel cozy and relax. It was just a comfy block.
This. Rewatching SAC, Bebop, Big O, and SJ late at night was nice.
Yeah.. lots of people. Obviously they would run out of old shows quickly and the nostalgia would die down, but having just old shows in the backhalf of the block would've been awesome. New shows would take priority on the first half, then nostalgia/old shows on the back half.
Unfortunately old shows not owned by CN are too costly, so that wont happen.. wouldve been great though.
>Tell me, how were they making a profit by playing reruns of cartoons that have been avaiable online for years? At red eye hours no less.
Loyalty mostly, I'd say.
People grew up watching Toonami, and tune in for old time's sake. The newish shows are the icing on top.
But I do say that many of the shows on the block I would not even pay attention to if they hadnt aired it. So it's still relevant to discover new shows.
How wrong you are
People REALLY wanted Toonami back even though streaming is better in every way. It has a very devout following that always tunes in. Also, while the shows may be old, many are dub premiers. Parasyte and AgK can't be watched dubbed anywhere else right now.
Also it's the only place on TV that anime has any hope of survival. The Chiller block is a good example of what happens to anime on TV if TOM isn't there to introduce it
This too. I wouldn't give things like Shitpudding the time of day if Toonami wasn't showing it. I even hold off on watching certain titles if I have a good feeling Toonami will pick it up soon
So basically charity?
Airing tv with commercials in deepest night when most of it is old and easily avaibale in a far better format online is an objectvly horrible buisness model. Original Content is the only sound reason for Toonami to still be a thing. Space Dandy for example
No, you are absolutely right it pretty much is charity. Someone said it a few weeks ago, we are all doing Demarco a favor by watching a mediocre lineup 1 episode per week rather than just streaming.
However, in a way you can consider things like Dandy and Jack a reward for our commitment. Yea it takes years to get a payoff but we do get something
>hey marathons suck but they would suck a little less if we could vote on which show we want to marathon
>NO ITS MY BLOCK YOU GET TO WATCH ONE PIECE DIALOG AND YOU WILL LIKE IT
Id rather a Kek la Kek marathon, atleast it would have action. All they are doing here is setting up OP to never be considered for a marathon ever again. Fucking it over just like they did with the 8:30 rerun starting during filler.
Fuck off Demarco you got lucky this week. One decent marathon night doesn't excuse the 3 failures before it
The Oblongs is going to hurt the comedy lead-in shows and possibly effect Toonami, but fortunately it's only for a month and honestly I feel like Toonami is in good place right now (plus, it's holiday and marathon season so nobody's expecting the ratings to be necessarily great right now anyway).
I really wish they would stick to what they have now rather than trying to force something to work that everyone knows won't. They could just drop a Bob's Burgers for DBZ when it's time. They are changing it since the BB rerun after Toonami pulls questionable ratings, but the pre Toonami one does great. Is it really mandatory to rerun the exact same stuff after Toonami. Id say have American Dad right after Toonami followed by The Oblongs. It's the perfect space for that type of show
Even though it was made midday Wednesday because of delayed ratings I thought the Jack news would push posting along at a steady rate. I guess we can thank the sticky for taking the brunt of the hype posting
>yfw if ratings had been posted on Tuesday the Jack news wouldn't have been out yet and once it dropped we would have hit bump limit within hours
It's good to know that I managed to entertain a second time, and that my first shot at writing wasn't just a fluke.
Pic is said first shot from the Halloween marathon.
Can you listen to my story and suggest me what to do next?
Basically, I started watching Dragon Ball, finished it, decided to ditch filler of DBZ and watched DBZ Kai. Buu Saga is not dubbed. So, I decided to watch Dragon Ball Z Remastered version. First: is it a good version and is there a better one? Second: should I watch it with Bruce Faucloner's soundtrack or keep Japanese one? I want to check Bruce Faulconer's stuff because the Japanese soundtrack kind of got old. I like it, but wouldn't mind something different and I am afraid Bruce's songs are too serious and just won't fit the mood of DBZ. Like, listen to this piece, this is not something I would associate with DBZ.
Funimation's "remaster" that they released on DVD. It's notorious for how badly they DNR'd it, especially with how the brightness was turned up to 11 on the Season 2 set. Have you seen the photos of Disney's Sword in the Stone Blu-Ray? It's sort of like that. This isn't even getting into how they cropped it to fit a widescreen frame.
If I shouldn't watch this, then what version should I watch?
b͞obo͟bo̶ baçk͢ ̛òn͟ ͜t̸oo̶n̛a̛mi ẃh̀ęn̨
I wish I could check it out with Faulconer's songs, but this is next best thing to perfect. Thanks.
I wonder if he is implying something with the all caps big
With AS actually spending big money on a Toonami project it's gonna be hard to sell Toonami being dead until the ratings for the first SJ episode come in
>We will never live in a universe where this happens
I'm Tom and here is today's block
