Beavis and Butthead were off limits because my mom didn't want me to become stupid like them.

My mom got REALLY mad at the George Bush Sr. episode of the Simpsons that we weren't allowed to watch it for like a month.

Married with Children was off limits for obvious reasons.

Oh, and she got really upset with Batman Beyond cause my younger sister had no radar on what to watch with her. It was the episode where the clown gang stole the tank.

I think their parents thought KnD taught kids to be disrespectful of adults when funnily enough 1-5's parents are pretty cool and respectable characters.

If anything it teaches kids not to trust ugly looking strangers.
>>
>>77875613
Most shows we were allowed to watch. KND was off limits for some reason, I think it had to do with the violence in show, kids vs kids and what not. Dad and mom generally hated anything I watched or played but Dad did like Samurai Jack.

Only thing off-limits was porn. Ma would watch a new show with me to make sure I understood its themes, knew what was acceptable on a TV show and wasn't acceptable in reality, et cetera, and would make sure I understood shit that went over my head when presented as-is.

Iunno what your folks were thinking.

Courage and Flapjack were looked down upon for pretty obvious reasons, but my sister and I got away with it anyway.

Chinese cartoons in the Toonami block usually got axed, but we still were able to watch Zatch Bell and DBZ. Ones like Bo-BoBoBo were considered too weird and were part of the off-limits group. Being too surreal was the case for a lot of off-limits stuff.
>>
>>77876251

I was in church everyday of the week except Saturday, which wasn't exclusive to going to another church to participate in their services. Sunday also had 2 services. Christian music blaring in the house, constant questions about am I keeping my life on track for God, etc. Pretty much drilling the whole Christianity schtick into me while I lived there.

There was one time where a girl stayed over who was a friend of my mom. I was told to sleep on the couch that night. Late into the night she woke up and asked for me just to sleep in the [my] room with her because she just felt uncomfortable. Parents woke up and saw me in the bed with her and were furious. Wouldn't let me or her explain a thing.
>>

Rugrats, when I was 7. They thought Angelica would be a bad influence on us.

Catdog later on. Because, well, Catdog.

Ren and Stimpy. I've literally never seen a full episode. I caught the tail end of the one where Ren gets a muscle transplant from Stimpy's butt.

Oh, and the Simpsons. Watched that shit on the down low for a month before I accidentally mentioned it at the dinner table.

Surprisingly enough, stuff like Gundam and post-Zeo Power Rangers weren't trouble. I guess that's just how America rolls?
>>
>>77876473

>>
I remember I wasn't allowed to watch power rangers when I was a kid (like 7-11 years old), my parents said it was because it was too violent and yet every weekend we went to my grandad's and watched horror films and shit like terminator, never made sense to me. So I called them out on it recently, they said it was because it was shit. Joke's on them, I watched it after school at my buddy's place. It was shit though.
>>
>>77876433

No. She had really nice tits though. I'm cool with them still. They aren't nearly as pushy about religion as they used to be, Dad just asks that I go to church with him sometimes when I visit.

The bible says the only reason that's excusable for divorce is if you catch the wife cheating on you. And ideally you should forgive her.

She can't watch any star wars that isn't a cartoon.

And basically her mom is against anything that has a little violence in it. My sister though, craves it. Precisely because she can't have any.

One night after the blocus against Batman was lifted, I walked in on her watching the Beyond movie. The Robin torture scene fucked me up. She didn't bat an eye. She liked the movie and just carried on with her life.

She also fucking loved Narnia and cried a lot when her mom said she wasn't allowed to watch the Luke movies.

my mom hated it because it was 'disrespectful' (or George Bush told her it was bad, she didn't seem to have a problem watching the first few seasons as a family)
my dad hated it because he though it was bad to watch any show where the main male (homer) wasn't insanely successful, didn't want us to think being middle class was a choice.(and yet he still doesn't make a lot of money, easily below the poverty line)

and yet they let me watch x-files, millennium, and homicide: life on the streets.

Little story here:

My father pulled me aside and was genuinely intrigued by there being Disney characters in what was clearly a Japanese book.

I explained the story to him, slowly, which turned into an explanation of Japanese culture in relation the art medium.

"I don't get it, but I guess it's not what I thought it was. Just be careful about what you let into your head."

I came to value that last bit he told me. Mom backed off. Binge watched a lot of stuff I missed out on.

I was lucky enough to have parents who didn't give a hot fuck about what I watched on tv.

However, I do remember in 2nd grade, when the Pokemon craze was in full fucking force, my best friend told me his mom didn't let him watch Pokemon because it was "created by Satan."

Most of the time "they didn't care". I was 12 when it premiered in the states 7 years ago Some relatives were living with us at the time. Two cousins and I were the same age, and so naturally we didn't get along. Aunt blamed TDI and as a result we weren't allowed to watch it.

I used to be left alone to watch over the house when my mother went to work the graveyard shift so I got a healthy dose of Adult Swim at night over the summer. She didn't know that tho.

As for cartoons we weren't allowed to watch, Johnny Bravo and 7teen come to mind. My mom absolutely hated Johnny Bravo because of the titular character, and I guess she was in a bad mood when she saw us watching 7teen.

I also wasn't really allowed to watch Toonami because my siblings were little shits who got scared shitless of the blood in Naruto.

Teen sitcoms, like the ones on Disney Channel, were absolutely banned in our house tho.

My parents never gave a shit. I had tv in my own room with CN. Both my mom and dad like horror and slasher movies, we watched them together. And Simpsons.

My dad worked at an orphanage with troubled kids and he'd sometime bring home banned movies or games and give them to me. Duke Nukem, the Exorcist, Alien, classic Tom and Jerry cartoons...

I can only understand banning something if the kid is directly picking up bad behavior from it or can't handle spooky stuff.

He played a lot of Super Nintendo (his favorite games on it were Super Castlevania 4 and F-Zero) but his all-time favorite game was Ocarina of Time. I remember being aggravated because it was supposed to be my game but he would spend hours playing it.
He liked South Park a whole lot, and had some VHS tapes of it which he only let me watch when he was around, and he would make this kind of frustrated groan when they said sexual terms. I guess during the movie he was laughing so hard the entire time he didn't have time to cover my eyes when Kenny went to titty heaven or tell me to look away when Saddam and Satan were playing with the dildo.
Unfortunately, he also had problems with prescription pills and had a tendency to be argumentative, so he and my mom hollered at each other more and more as they got closer to splitting up. Being around him when he was taking pills and mom wasn't around was really bad. He would be all fucked up and drowsy and barely able to walk and talk and shit. I guess it's a good thing I lived with Mom after the split.

all adult swim stuff, but i didnt want to anyway. family didn't swear except for when my dad was super angry so swearing put me a little on edge. i love space ghost and sea lab now though, theyre hardly "adult" so i mean i guess i could have watched them when i was little if it weren't for the fact they were on [as]

Hey Arnold! - Mom didn't like how the girl called Arnold names.

Kids Next Door - Violence, boogers

The Simpsons - It's not for kids (which is true-ish) but I try to talk to my parents about it now and they say it's just stupid people doing stupid things. My younger neighbors always talked about it and that pissed me off.

One Piece - Mom saw a part where the clown was chopped up, and only his head, hands and feet were tied up. It's not gore, it makes sense in the show.

The Princess and the Goblin - No idea. It was always the forbidden VHS tape.

There are more that I can't remember. I avoided some shows because I knew my mom would yell at me. Ed Edd and Eddy, Naruto, Grim Adventures, Dexter's Lab. A lot of cartoon network stuff.
>>

I mainly lived with Mom afterwards and saw him on weekends until around middle school when his living situation got less stable. I haven't seen him in a few months, actually. I tried to call him today but the phone was fucking busy, which I hasn't happened when I've tried to call someone in a while. I don't have Facebook or anything like that, he can't really drive, and I'm usually busy/prefer to jerk off at that moment, so we really only talk a couple times a month. Usually about music, he got me into hard rock and metal when I was a kid, so nowadays I introduce him to bands I've found out about a lot, or ask him stuff like "Hey, did you ever hear [album x] back when it came out?" He doesn't really play vidya anymore. The last video game I remember hearing him talk about loving was Resident Evil 4. He hasn't watched South Park in a few years either, next time I talk to him I oughta bring up this season's story arc.

On the upside, however, he's always been good at grilling and making steak and shit, and he lived with a dude from rehab for a while who had a bunch of fancy spices and shit in his house so he made food with his own recipes that people told him was amazing so he said he's thinking about going to culinary arts school and getting off disability and becoming a professional chef. Also the thing that made be disguisted about america as a kid was those "houses for old people". Especially when it was showing in Simpsons.
There was even episode where old people escaped from that house and it looked like some kind of prison.

Old-folks homes are a pretty horrifying thing, having emerged out of a 'need' to free up space and resources as well as time. The fact that our social model has produced what are essentially "go wait to die" housing blocks for the elderly is nothing short of staggering.

I guess my dad will live with me like that eventually, but he told me he filled out an application to live at his old apartment place not too long ago, so maybe he'll stabilize finally. I had bible toons and religious kids shows on VHS as a kid and I watched them because I wanted to, not because my parents forced me to. Plus most kids shows they didn't let me watch were for aesthetic reasons, for example she didn't like Beast Wars because of the word "Beast" (Not because of like, the Number of the Beast, just because the word sounds too mean), or because they weren't educational PBS stuff.

Because my Mom was really conservative about humor/violence my brother and I weren't allowed to watch:
-Power Rangers (This was when I was like 4 or 5, later she didn't care)
-Family Guy (Pretty obvious why)
-Bro'Town
-Simpsons/Futurama (She though it was stupid)
-South Park (This is obvious too, pretty much the only show perma-banned by both parents)
-Pretty anything with swearing or extreme violence in

Luckly, my Dad didn't give a fuck and were pretty able to watch whatever (expect South Park) when Mom wasn't around. Mom stopped caring about what I watched once I got to 15-16

I had cousins who were banned from Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon but were still allowed to watch the Simpsons, until my Aunt saw the Treehouse of Horror episodes.

The only show I can remember really being discouraged to watch was Beetlejuice, and even then I was allowed to watch it, my mom just made clear she didn't like it and didn't think it was very Christian.

It probably worked better than outright banning it cause she was reasonable about it, so I didn't watch it very often until I was a bit older and it didn't matter anymore.

When I was little, I didn't think we were super Christian, but it's all relative, I guess. Went to church 3-4 nights a week(a lot of that was stuff like rec night/family night/Royal Ranger night--Christian version of the Boy Scouts, etc.) but we were still allowed to do Halloween and other stuff.

I remember when the Pokemon craze hit and people in the church started saying it was evil, but the reasons were pretty silly, and I always maintained it was because new episodes aired on Sunday morning.

My parents were pretty cool to be honest. I never got to watch Saturday morning cartoons in the morning though since we're Seventh Day Adventists, but my dad always just had the things record on the vcr so it didn't matter.

Whenever the Pastor or anyone else at church would start to talk about the evils of Pokemon or some other popular cartoon(Really it was only ever Pokemon. One time he tried to talk about Monster Rancher but realized that a majority of the people in the church were farmers and just slid right back to Pokemon) I got worried that I wasn't gonna' be allowed to watch them anymore. I told my parents this and they asked me if I thought Pokemon were real. I told them no, they're just video game characters. Never brought up again.

Of course we eventually moved to a different church because I had my Gameboy with me one day, and during the fifteen minute recess between Sermon and Sabbath school I decided to play some Pokemon. Pastor sees this and tries to take the Gameboy from me while hollering about demons and shit. Dad sees this, rushes over and pushes the Pastor away from me and tells him to "Back the fuck off"

It sucked because I had a lot of friends in the church, but because our Pastor was so die-hard about this stuff we had to start going to one twenty miles down the road.

didn't like me watching the simpsons but she
let me, she wouldn't let me watch power
rangers for like a year and a half but i
watched it anyway cuz she was never in the
Living room when i watched tv. then I finally
convinced her that it wouldn't cause me to fight people at school or kill anyone. She also made it known that she didn't approve of the violence in X-Men TAS but she let me watch it. She wasn't even aware of the existence of shows like south park so I watched it when she wasn't in the room

She was SUPER picky about video games though. No t rated games til I was 12, she finally let me get m rated games when I was 15 but by then I had figured out that nobody at best buy asked if I was old enough so I always got them when she wasn't around and she didn't really know where to look to see what a game was rated. I had her thinking they wouldn't sell it to me because I was too young so she never even checked.

She was your stereotypical soccer mom always worried that things would corrupt me into a violent psychopath (liyerally) but thankfully she was incompetent and didn't understand how anything worked Soni got away with a lot of shit.

Still remember her not letting me get final fantasy 7 because "There's a big knife of the front of the game" though.

It is a magical girl anime by Clamp, suprisingly mature for what it is. Only had one girl instead of a team and had the girl getting a new costume every episode made by a girl with a crush on her. She got her powers by catching "clow" that were basically pokemon that gave you super powers that you unleash via cards. The supporting cast was huge and with that came loads of drama.

The dub is one of the worst, as in they kept reusing footage of Sakura's rival/side kikc/love interest boy and tried to market the show around him so as to get more boys watching it.

Mom was pretty chill about what I could or couldn't watch - nothing aimed at children was off limits, and she even watched russian-dubbed cartoons and anime with me when she could, we discussed it, even argued about shipping in ATLA (she was dead set on zutara, I preferred kataang). She hates gross-out humour but never forbade me from watching the shows - just asked me to turn them off when a scene made her sick and she couldn't leave the room for some reason. Adult cartoons were fine (she loved The Simpsons as much as I did), unless it was an ecchi anime like Ikki Tousen - still, I'm pretty sure she just called it indecent and said she'd never watch something like that, and I turned it off because I didn't want her to think I'm a pervert. She changed her opinion since then - we watched High School of the Dead and Overlord together when I was a teen/adult, and she didn't mind the ecchi bits for the most part.
There was a time when all cartoons were forbidden for several days because I started to become addicted to TV, glued to the screen all day long, stopped playing outside, started failing school. The ban got lifted as soon as I learned to organise my time.
The only things which were strictly forbidden were horror films. Horror literature from mom's bookshelves was fine though, even that one book with fucked up guro short stories. I asked her about it later, turns out she haven't even read that book (bought it because it was a discount and foreign books in Soviet times were rare), and believed I would get bored and drop it. Well, I didn't get mentally scarred by it, so I guess everything's fine.

>3-year old only watching anime

I know it's probably Japanese toddler cartoons, but the thought of a 3-year old watching Eva or something is too funny to pass up.

wan't allowed to watch south park, simpsons, and beavis and butthead.
parents automatically assumed if it was on nick, Disney, or cartoon network it was fine.
i got to watch vintage adult swim all the time.
never really got into beavis and butthead or the simpsons so it didnt bother me.
i did however sneak as much southpark as i could.

the internet let me see all the episodes i missed
>>
Spongebob. My mom thought it was gross and would make me stupid.
>>
>>77875365
Ren and Stimpy on the grounds that it was stupid. I personally didn't like it much either since it just grossed me out a ton.
>>
Lived with my grandma. If I remember right the only cartoon she didn't want me watching was Family Guy and even then it wasn't totally banned, it was more like "you can watch it but the moment I hear any disgusting garbage you're changing the channel." I don't feel like I missed anything, I only watched it because it was the only thing on or I was trying to be rebellious. Oddly, she really likes South Park and would watch it with me. She thinks the characters are cute and the political messages are on point which kinda validates all the trash.

"Look, Billy. The thing has 6 spots? You know the number of the beast? That's right, Billy. 666 and that's terrible."

mine but his broness was undermined by my mom´s restrictions and since my dad worked many hours, she had almost free reign on what i could not watch on TV (i dunno how i was allowed to watch ranma tho), at least dad got me into comics and i read all kinds of adult stuff in them and mom was too lazy to check the contents, she only banned spawn from me because i dunno i think the covers gave the theme away, still i thank my dad for getting me into comics, it´s been my fav hobby since then

My parents were so open-minded that they allowed me to watch practically any cartoons. In fact, they didn't even need to ban any shows -- I just avoided the ones I found to be distasteful.

>Overprotective parents that try to censor shit from their kids
Has there ever been a kid that hasn't been a fuck up from this?
>>
>The Simpsons because mom hates hearing burps (she still thinks that most of the episodes are Homer and Bart burping around)
>Celebrity Deathmatch and Dragon Ball Z because mom believed I was scared of blood (OK, the latter is because I actually cried when Raditz spit blood while announcing the arrival of the other Saiyans before dying)
>Batman Beyond wasn't banned but mom would stay there complaining about the costume looking nothing like the classic one
>Ditto for Gadget Boy, nothing but endless complaining because she prefers regular Inspector Gadget

anything that was "suspicoiously popular" was the devil manipulating the children, there were news articles where i live about pokemon, beyblade, yugioh, and even the x men saying they were satanic, my mom said x men were bad too because in the comics and movies sometimes they´d apear with white or colored sclera

Chances are you were less likely to form an energy ball or go and punch aliens in their space face than you were to pick up a bottle and smash it on a thug and then continue giving out the buisness end like in Streets of Rage.

Certain regions. The Northeast is commonly lax about it, but the deep South has the worst offenders.

My mother and grandmother DESPISED Spongebob.

I asked my mom about it recently, and she said the early seasons were good, just she didnt feel they were appropriate for kids. I doubt she'd actually watch it now, though.
>>
>all these parents not wanting their kids to watch EEnE

Damn that was the opposite for me.My parents thought it was hilarious they even taped some specials and episodes on VHS and they still have them.Hell, I got season 1 and 2 on dvd from when I was 7.When we went to my uncles house we couldn't watch it though because he didn't let his kids watch it for the same reason as you guys. They were dirtbags and were assholes to each other. Now, most parents believe that seeing this will make your kids act like they did. It's true. When I was in 4th grade I used to call people dorks and try to sell stupid shit for 25 cents like dandelions in the park or turns to go on the slide.(I once made money off of this actually). So yeah it did make me an asshole but I learned comedy from it and thats how my personality formed as a funny guy.

They don't care.
>>
>>77895892
All Turner Classics are from the fifties back though. What would you've even seen from that time period?
>>
>>77910138
They've had movies as new as the LotR trilogy. For some of their late night stuff, they would frequently air stuff from the '70s and '80s. I recorded Coffy off there and fapped to it 6 times that day, a record that still stands today.
>>
They banned me from watching anything furry related.
>>
One day as a kid I wanted to watch adult swim since I always saw the bumpers and it seemed cool.

Mom let me watch thirty seconds of a robot chicken skit, it was something to do with R. Kelly, maybe? It was a black dude puking on a naked chick or something.

Then I watched the tree court episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force when I woke up early.

AS might've contributed to my nightmares.

I got banned from watching Robot Chicken because they thought from the way I described it I was talking about Drawn Together

I still watched it once in a while though whenever i randomly came across it airing, though, so I guess I was only really banned from Drawn Together? That didn't mean much because i didn't even know what channel it was on and when, or have any interest in it

The why is because they understandably didn't want a ten year old watching shit like Drawn Together

it didn't make much of a difference, i still turned out a perverted asshole

If they only censor things like Southpark I'd say it's fine.
>>
desu I understand why parents would b& certain "kids" shows like Courage the Cowardly Dog.

Imagine watching that shit from a 8-year-olds eyes. It could be genuinely scary and depressing for some.
>>
>>77910367
being scared by RETURN THE SLAB is a fucking rite of passage, you nigger

not one single person i know, regardless of what their life is like, avoided the horror
>>
>>77910367
If the kid is too stupid to not even change the channel when something scares him, he deserves it.

Courage was the perfect mix of regular silliness and unsettling creepiness. Like one of Ramses' plagues being terrible music, or that time the cat hated dogs and you think it's normal dog/cat antics, but it's actually because her best friend has an abusive dog boyfriend.

My parents were pretty relaxed. My mom let me watch anything that wasn't for adults.

As for my dad, he didn't seem to care. He showed me and my brother stuff like Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Blues Brothers when we were young. My mom was pretty horrified when she suggested we watch a movie and me and my brother yelled, "Blues Brothers!"
>>
>>77876433
I hate that the most the parents, atleast let your child explain seeing something isnt always the full fucking story.
>>
>>77875365
Ed Edd N' Eddy because one of the kids used the word 'stupid.' Seriously. Years later, I watched the show on Netflix with my mom and she loved it.
