I can say without a doubt THIS scene here is one of my favorite scenes in all of Ed Edd n Eddy. the delivery, the pause before Eddy says he'll get a new face letting the audience wait just long enough to wonder what he's going to say, the fucking horse neigh sound effect at the end. and the trumpet sound effects (if not trumpet it's A brass instrument, curse my lack of musical instrument knowledge.)

THIS scene makes me bust a gut every time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n17ctfVsmKg

what scenes in EEnE do you consider the cream of the crop in the show overall?
>>
>tfw you realize you were the "Ed" of your high school trio
>>
>>77863262

Seasons1&2 of EEnE were really some of the best animation of the last couple of decades IMO

Can't say a scene in particular, but "Who, What, When, Where, Ed!" is my all time favorite episode just for the 4th wall breaking exploration of cartoon physics

EEnE was a gag-reel show in the same tier as Loony Tunes, timeless humor coupled with an amazing soundtrack and fresh execution and style. A sad day that it ended.

Fuck, I remember even once emailing Dan Antonucci and getting a personal response back!

It's funny how EEnE actually relies less on pop culture than Looney Tunes does.

Were there even many specifically dated references to things in EEnE?
>>
>>77863809

I don't think so; the creators said that they purposefully wanted to give it a timeless sort of feel as much as possible, so they purposefully avoided anything that could have set it on a particular timeframe.
>>
>>77863809

Some of Eddy's expressions would be considered anachronistic in this day and age

There was also the episode where they found the polaroid, that being said I could see little kids today still playing with a polaroid if they found one

I would too
>>
All the bizarre sound effects were probably something I didn't pay any mind to as a kid, but rewatching Ed Edd n Eddy I really appreciate how much they add to the delivery of the jokes

Eddy had a Tom Jones vinyl in his room once, but that's less a clue to the time period and more of just a "yeah, that's something he would have."
>>
I always thought that EEnE was the embodiment of childhood, thr view on kid life from kid perspective. In a very exaggerated comical way. The boxes can be a city in childs eyes, candy is worth living for, stupid plans of getting rich while selling junk, feverish fantasies about adventure and monsters, disgusting girl contacts... God tier show

I think that all of the non-school seasons were great. Each one has its own kind of feel to it, and the animation stays top-tier throughout the run, even the school episodes. I personally like the more surreal and self-aware episodes of seasons 3 and 4 for their own reasons, and love how they worked plots around the scams rather than the episodes being about the scams specifically, if at all. The episodes where they go "nowhere but up", ed has the violin, they tell Jonny the stories, they film the documentary for Eddy's brother, and the one where Kevin gets the whole cul de sac "scammed" by his own paranoia all stick out to me.

The school episodes weren't even bad, it's just that the show lost its "endless summer" charm. We wouldn't have gotten the movie without them extending the life of the show either, so there's that too.

Also had some of the best holiday specials of any cartoon to date. Still lose it at the accidental Nativity recreation.
>>
>>77868439

They haven't even released the whole series on DVD, let alone bluray. Shit's criminal.

It truly is a treasure. This is going to sound weird, but I actually feel that it's criminally underrated, especially outside of here.

I remember when it was airing, I was still in high school, and we had a substitute teacher one day. She was talking to a girl in the back of the class about TV, and she brought of the "gross, annoying" cartoon she couldn't stand, and it was EEnE. The girl she was talking to agreed that it was shit.

In fact, to this day, I don't think I've ever met a single person in real life who thinks it was as good as I do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HUf1tjrBwM

The lighting change is dramatic, the impacts of the fish hitting Eddy are perfect so that the fish feels like it has weight but isn't stiff or rigid, the shift to Kevin filming is done seamlessly, and the bit where Eddy falls into the abyss is just byootiful.

I remember once in one of the school episodes, Sarah becomes enraged with Nazz for some reason. When she goes to confront her, she pulls a 1950's Cadillac out of nowhere and beats Nazz over the head with it, sending her through the floor.

How do you go from voice acting to oil mining?
>>
I don't know if Antonucci said it by itself. But the intro is just a good example of "How to present a show". Probly some Youtube video explaining some of the ideas of the show.

- There is nothing in background, so primary focus is only on titular three characters.
- Notice that each of them is adjusting camera. Ed is rotating it in sloppy way broking the angle, while Edd is the only noticing that and re-adjusting the angle again. Eddy is quite self-centered to notice that rest was already away from the shot.
- Each of them is having a different poses. Eddy is simply posing for swagger, Ed is just simply waving his hand with full mouth open (this is disturbing implication), Edd is very uptight keeping arms sticked to the body

The point is:
- The only doing posing in front of camera, no speeches, explanation. Yet audience already know who they are and knows their character.

TL;DR
Intro uses body language to represent each of the eponymous characters.

He quit VAing after EEnE ended and joined an oil rig. He probably makes a lot more money there.

I've heard working on oil rigs is pretty grueling work with ridiculously long hours, but you make pretty great money.

I know I'm responding to an old post, but hell you make a good point.
I'm really curious about the story behind CN letting Danny and co. make such a distinct, original show. This wasn't long after Danny made The Brothers Grunt, which was very unpopular, and he was fairly well-known for making Lupo The Butcher.
With that track record, you'd think the network would've kept a tight grip on creative control and imposed limitations (for marketability, to follow trends, etc). I'd love to know the story of how Danny got the network to accept his kids' show and allow him such unique style & creative control, especially given his history & reputation.
Has he talked about that process in any interviews? Seems like any time he talks about the genesis of the show, it's just "I drew these characters & decided to make a show about it, and so I did!"
