Tomorrow, apparently. I don't like the cover art.

I asked my LCS a few weeks ago if they had issue 5 and they said they'd only ordered 4 issues and they'd sold out. I went today and happened to find a copy in the past issues section. It was strange. But damn, it was quite a bit cheaper than the other comics I bought

It's both, probably.
I only buy the digital issues, so I'm not helping sales numbers. But there's no way in hell I'm buying the floppies.

So, I came into this thread thinking it had something to do with a teenage Storm. I actually tend to like DC better, but what the hell is Prez?
>>

Teenage girl becomes president. think it's supposed to be some kind of commentary on the hashtag generation
>>
>>77852850
It's a shitty sequel to the Prez comics of the 70s that thinks it's has good satirical wit.

>>77852834
It is bad. In fact, it's worse than bad. It's on the level of North's Squirrel Girl, even in art style.
>>
>>77852894
>>77852912
She's black. Does it talk about racism and police brutality and shit? That could be an interesting comic. Is it unfunny to you because it's too essjay dubya-ish or is it legitimately just straight up bad? Can we see some pages?

There's nothing wrong with hashtags when they're actually used to indicate that a thing is related to a specific topic or for archival purposes.
>>
It will likely sell a lot better in trade and with proper marketing (DiDio likes it, it's possible) it will be way more likely to find an audience with book retailers then it ever did in comic shops.
>>
>>77852724
Maybe they'll market it this time. Shit is so fucking topical, they called everything from Trump 2.0 to Deez Nutz.
>>
>>77852942
She's not black, she's future-brown, but the comic goes satirical into healthcare costs, foreign wars, budget appropriations, unilateral military action, consumer behavior, and a theoretical post-unregulated-capitalism America.

I strongly suggest you try the first issue and see if the sense of humor appeals to you.

Depends from person to person. I liked it, because it retained the craziness of the original Prez but with some political commentary thrown in. Others may not like it for that very reason.

Read the first issue and make your own judgement.

Also, the fact that this is selling so poorly makes my dream of an Earth-47 ongoing all the more distant.

>>
>>77859290
The sales numbers you normally see are how many issues LCS's actually order. So technically, DC got its money already. But had you supported it more, your LCS might have purchased more.

It's really hard to say, as a title like Prez was never going to sell well (the original had only four issues). We should be happy it's at least getting twelve, and then recommend it to any newcomer who wanders in here.

In short, just enjoy the ride.
>>

>>
>>77859503
Fun fact: All the heroes there aren't original.

Prez and Brother Power are obvious. Sunshine Supes, Speed Freak, and Magic Lantern were all in Morrison's run of Animal Man. And Shooting Star came from a What If story where Bruce Wayne was inspired by a comet.

It's sad, because there a lot of ideas, both funny and serious, that could come from a 60s-era superhero team.

This issue was pretty solid.

Tina the transgender robot and Ross' storylines converge, there's a character (who I'm not sure is a reference to one of the trinity members) that helps corndog girl with the corporations, and the series is definitely continuing after this issue. The ending had a short dialogue with someone whose cat had caught the cat flu and it was kind of touching, considering the source.

DC books seem to fit the tpb model better than floppy sales. They have an overarching plot in mind and when you read the floppies, it just seems incomplete. Pic related is a good example

Marvel on the other hand are made for single issues. Each issue has that hook factor but when you stop to look back at the story you've been reading so far, you only find yourself looking at a pile of dried shit
>>
Notice how Lumberjanes is only a couple of spots higher than Prez yet that comic is stillmgoing strong.

There are independent comics that sold considerably less than Prez which will keep on going. X-O Manowar, Abe Sapien, Barb Wire just to name a few.

Prez is one of the best comics on the market today. If what happened to it is anybody's fault, it's exclusively the fault of DC Comics.

Why are comic shops to blame for following the hoops the big two controling the industry have laid out for them?

A book like Prez isn't gonna sell in this market. Hell, it might have more of a chance if it was over at Image. Smaller publishers like them are the real hope for the industry. The big two are just niche publishing branches of big media conglomerates trying to push IP recycled for 70 odd years so they can make movies and tv shows.

The big two are dinosaurs who should not control the industry the way they do.DC and Marvel are Exxon Mobil and BP. They are Leman Bros and Bear Sterns. They are a sick abusive old way of doing business.

Unless Marvel and DC completely change their game or smaller publishers finally chip away the control the big two have over the industry... I honestly do not see much hope for it. Things seem worse than the 90s, the inflation of sales by cheap gimmicks seem worse than they ever were then.
>>

...or moreso proof that DC can't market to women for shit.

Rememeber Minx? I swear the old boys club at DC created that girls line of comics to fail to prove their insistance that women don't read comics.

You know, even though the job of editors and marketing is to sell books to more people, not keep catering to the same shrinking fanbase of 18-35 and probrably to 50+ year old white guys. Nevermind the reboot alienated many of them.

Of course when you hired a buncha Marvel idiots like Bob Harras and a buncha Wizard staffers, is it any wonder they look like they are only trying to appeal to what 16-20 year old guys in 1994 liked?

It's 2015, people. It is... twenty fifteen.

Thanks man

I would kill for an Earth-47 title. Add Super-Hip to that lineup and it would be perfect.
>>
>>77867154
Yeah, sure. Certainly is quite the hiatus we're having, almost as if they're waiting for trade sales of volume 1 to see if a volume 2 would even be worth it.
>>

Kreigslist. Heh.
>>
Bump so people see and read it.

Now to just wait for the trade.
>>
bump for reading

Okay, that's actually kind of badass.

Feels like they packed a lot in this issue. It works since everything is glacial when it comes to politics so jumping around the timeline to highlights works.
I continue to love this with every issue and weep for the fact that it might get canceled at any moment. Which is oddly fitting considering the fate of the original...
Maybe I'm just starved out for future insanity in the vein of Transmet.
>>
>>77867944
They could also be holding off to stock up enough new political material to satirize...
Though given Trump's recent behavior, that might not be necessary

Either way, I'm adding the trade for this to my pull list ASAP and pimping the fuck out of it once it comes out

Thanks for posting. I hope we do get the second half. I kind of expect it by the June solicits.

Thanks for the story time, off to ComiXology to buy. I loved that whorehouse bit of dialog in particular.

They might wait until they have an idea of the trade sales.

I'm still under the assumption that the second half will be released closer to or during the 2016 Presidential race, likely to help attempt to boost sales through being concurrent with ongoing events.
